Return Of The Heiress For Revenge - Chapter 475
Chapter 475: Nightmares!
When Max returned home it was past midnight. He opened the door slowly afraid that he would disturb Natalie. But he was surprised to find her sitting on the chair and working on something.
Surprised, he walked closer to her only to see that she was reading about Chris’s company. He paused when she looked up and met his eyes.
“Why?” he repressed the low groan leaving his throat to hide his disappointment.
“I have some files that could be used as proof. But I want to detail them first.” she replied in a low voice and then concentrated on the mobile again.
Max pulled a mobile from her hands, surprising both of them. Stunned, Nat watched him and he cleared his throat. He had never been this impulsive. Even when Lisa did something he did not like, he kept his thoughts to himself and let her be.
“You need to sleep. As a doctor I can not see a pregnant woman staying awake all night. You can do all this in the morning.” Max inhaled a deep breath and prepared himself for an argument.
Nat blinked and sighed. She held the cushion from the other side and hugged it.
“Alright, I was about to sleep when you returned. Did you have dinner?” Max shook his head and watched the new cushions. The chair looked much better with the cushions but he was sure he did not have them.
“Where did you get them?” she pointed at the cushions with his eyes. “Did you go out?” The thought left him uneasy. She was out alone. Perhaps being followed. What if something would have happened?!
“I ordered them and asked the delivery boy to leave them at the door. I used a voice changer tool and spoke as a man and even used your card for payment.” she grinned showing her teeth making him laugh.
He sat beside her and watched her. So much had happened and she seemed broken so many times yet she knew how to smile like that. There was something comforting here. As he sat beside her, he was sure he would never feel bored or hesitated.
“You did good.” he said so proudly that she grinned further.
“But this is serious, Doc. we need to buy a lot of things.” he nodded, accepting.
“Tomorrow is the weekend. I do not have any plan so far. Until there is an emergency, I can manage my shift so that we can go shopping.” he suggested, surprising her again.
She looked at him as if she was watching him for the first time. He stiffened under her gaze. His Adam apple moved. “What is it?”
“Nothing. Nothing at all.” she shook her head suppressing a smile. His eyes softened looking at her.
“Now go to sleep! You should not be awake.” She stood up stretching herself. And suddenly he regretted asking her to sleep. The thought stunned him!
“There is your dinner in the microwave. Warm it up and eat it. Do not sleep on an empty stomach.” she whispered in a low voice and yawned.
A smile tugged on his face as he watched her leaving and then went to the kitchen to warm his meal.
The kitchen was clean. The empty house was shining and the food was tasty. After a long time, it felt good to come home and he looked forward to it.
Max finished his meal slowly. Enjoying the warmth and taste of food. He washed the dishes after finishing. But did not return to his room immediately. He stood in front of her room hesitating.
It would be wrong to enter without permission. What if she misunderstood him? But what if she was asleep and his knock disturbed her.
He told himself that he only wanted to check up on her as a doctor. It was necessary! He had a gut feeling that she needed him.
He leaned on the door for a long twenty minutes but shook his head. He could not collect the strength to go in.
But just as he opened his door, he heard a scream. It took all the hesitation away and he ran to his room. Nora was holding the duvet tightly. Her knuckles had turned white and her body was covered with cold sweat.
Her eyes were tightly shut but she was whispering something with a horrified look on her face. Tears escaped her eyes when he reached her.
“Let go! Please… let go.” she whispered softly, sobbing.
Max stood there frozen. He did not need to be told what she was watching. What she must be suffering. Waking her up would end her pain but she could not stay away forever. He had to find a way.
He collected his courage and sat beside her. Hesitating, he touched her hands and she flinched with fear.

“I am letting you go!” he whispered. “No one would ever touch you without your permission.” he whispered softly. Her face tightened and he slowly moved his hand away. The girl stilled and did not react for a few seconds.
“Others had left too. You are safe now. You are safe here.” he whispered again without touching her. But leaning enough that his low voice soothes her.
Natalie looked frozen in time. Unshed tears still left her eyes.
But he did not give up. He kept whispering soothing words until tears stopped and her face looked much better. He wanted to wipe the tears off her face and so a sweat. But he was afraid that he would wake her up. His hands are just an inch above her face. It stayed there for a long time before he moved away.
But he did not leave, he sat there and watched her to make sure that she was not surrounded by another nightmare. He watched her face, the hair tangled on her cheeks, the soft rhythmic heaving of her chest and her grip on the duvet slowly losing. She looked relieved and slept peacefully. The simple thought relieved him; he did not understand why. Slowly, his eyes started to turn heavy too.
