Chapter 476: Just The Doctor!
Natalie yawned, feeling exhausted even when she had just woken up. But it still felt better. For weeks she was suffering from nightmares. It was to the limit that she felt more exhausted after sleeping.
But last night was better. She had nightmares but they ended somehow. When she begged the man to leave, they left. One of them even assured her that they would not return.
She was amused by the thought that she knew him perhaps. It must be her strong will and treatment. Would she improve completely with time? She stretched herself on the bed and tossed only to freeze at her place.
No it could not be a dream. Could it be? She blinked and sat up slowly.
Max was sitting on the ground since there was no chair or sofa. He was leaning to her bed and sleeping there.
Could it be that he sleepwalked? Because he looked like he was deep asleep. Though he didn’t accept it, she knew that it was his room and the room he was living in was supposed to be the guest room. Though both rooms had minimal differences, she still knew he had given up his room to make her more comfortable.
She watched him shifting slowly but then goraning and returning to his old position to get the support of bed. Though he looked uncomfortable. She was sure it was not the first time for him to sleep this uncomfortably.
Nat paused as she suddenly remembered the whisper of the man that she was safe now and her eyes widened. It.. it was him. He was nursing her whole night so that she did not have nightmares. Her eyes widened with disbelief and something shifted in her.
The way she looked at him changed. She felt warmth in the cold room and her heart beat erratically. A ripple of feeling burst and enveloped her like a caterpillar is enveloped inside a warm cocoon and turned into a butterfly.
She closed her eyes and breathed to control herself; he was a doctor. Perhaps it meant nothing to him.
But then… how many doctors bring their patients at home and leave their own room for them. How many he had brought home? The thought made her uncomfortable so she pushed her away. She would only concentrate on her pregnancy and giving birth and she would leave after that.
But what if… he takes care of her child as he takes care of her? Last night waiting for her felt good. She had always dreaded Chris returning to that cold house. So she had never thought that this bare house and clumsy man would make her feel better.
She knew that she was falling for Max. but she also knew that it was impossible between them. So she laid down on the bed and closed her eyes again.
Hoping that when she would open her eyes again, he would have gone. From the room and slowly, he would leave from her heart too. She did not deserve him.
A minute, two.. Half an hour had passed but the man did not wake up. Nat had tossed and turned on the bed so many times that she did not know what to do anymore. If he woke up, he would realize that she was only playing asleep.
She sat on the bed again and groaned as she looked at him. He had a large and tall frame. There was no way she could pull him up on the bed without waking up.
What could she do! Sighing, she left the room tiptoeing to make sure that he did not wake up.
She went to the washroom and took a quick bath and cleaned herself. Then she roamed around the house but there was nothing to tend to. Sighing, she decided to make an early breakfast.
She paused and a smile danced on her face when she found the dishes clean. He must be exhausted after his long shift. If he had left the dishes dirty, who would have found fault in him?
Shaking her head, she ignored the bubbly feeling in her heart. There was no doubt that the man was a gem. But it did not belong to her.
That thought calmed her down and she started cutting vegetables and preparing the dough. Cooking had always helped her in forgetting everything else and clearing her mind.
When she heard footsteps, she had already cooked breakfast and was cleaning the kitchen.
Max walked out with a red face. Did he know that he looked adorable as he scratched the back of his neck and looked lost in his own house. She even wants to laugh at him when he looks at her with a flushed face.
“I… i can explain.” he stated and she raised a brow. Suddenly enjoying his embarrassment.
Trying to sound stern, she scoffed.
“What is there to explain?” his face went pale and he stiffened. Poor man!
“I..” he looked around as if a miracle would happen. “I did not mean harm. It..” he gulped not knowing how to justify it.
“I think I overslept.” even a fool could tell that he was not habitual of lying. He did not want to mention her nightmares, afraid that it would affect her good mood. So he was trying to find a way to justify himself sleeping on the ground in her room.
Gosh! Did a man even need to justify himself when he did not touch the woman and sleep on the ground to keep her safe.

Her heart tugged again and she wanted to hug him. The thoughts froze her in her place. She had to get rid of those feelings.
She looked away, her face tightening.
“You do not need to explain doc. I know that I was having a nightmare and you must have heard them.” her smile looked painful. “I know that you were just tending to a patient. This habit must be etched in your mind so badly that you could not stop yourself even in your house. Right?”
