Chapter 49: I Will Protect You

“I will convey your idea. And see how my father replies. Can I take this to show him?” he asked hurriedly, then realizing he had shown too much enthusiasm, he stopped, “i meant i need to show him the details to get a decision. I will not steal your idea of course.” he suddenly felt embarrassed. The more he spoke he felt like he was making it wrong but Nora laughed instead.

Victor blinked and looked at her. She was indeed a femme fatale. Even her laughter made his heart skip a beat.

“Why are you being so serious? We are friends, of course I trust you that you will not steal my idea.” They were friends? The words made Victor flush but he still nodded. He wanted to leave instantly but now that she had called him friend, he decided to finish the lunch with her at least no matter how tiring it would be.

“You know I have always been a fan of the Quresta game. I wanted to know the idea behind it haha.” but Victor realized that it was not tiring at all. He had thought girls at her age had no interest in video games. But not only Nora knew about all the video games in the market. She was keen to learn and had good ideas to share too.

Victor did not realize how time had passed. And it had been months since he had such a good time with anyone.

“You know Nora, you should visit my house sometimes. I will show you the best video games and teach you how to play them.” She looked at him just like a child waiting for the candy. The sparkle in her eyes was addicting.

“I hope we can do that.” She stood up when he did but she did not leave hurriedly. When he left, she turned to see that Alex was sitting on the table behind her. He was sitting alone. His long legs stretched and his cold eyes looking at her.

“You are not acting to be asleep anymore?” she asked with a smile lacking humor. All the lunch she had felt his cold eyes making a hole on her back. She had thought it would be penny but who would have thought that the grand Alex has time to stalk others too.

“We need to talk.” he stood up and held her hands. Though the bell had rung, there was still a large group of students and teachers from various classes who noticed how he held her hands and dragged her out.

“We need to stop this.” she spat as soon as he stopped in the garden. Alex raised a brow, his lips curled into an icy smile.

“Why? You did not mind when I dragged you out for the last time. Could it be that you have changed targets after failing last night?” His voice was filled with poison making her frown.

“What targets?” she looked around and then at him, “i have told you i need money. I am only earning it with fair means. And last night.. I have told you I am scared of racing.” her eyes were cold and dark. There was something she was hiding. But what?

He leaned to her until their breath was touching each other.

“No, you have not told me that you are scared of racing. And I have not refused to help you. So do not go to others for help.” he placed his hands in his pocket and took out a wad of notes and placed it in her hands. “Here you can have them. If you need more, I will give it to you, you just need to tell me and remember, we are going out tonight too.” he announced in a tone of authority as if he owned her after paying her.

Her eyes narrowed. That was the thing Alric wanted from her. To be around his brother all the time. He was giving her a chance easily.

“I am not your maid.” She placed the money back in his hands. “I have told you that I want to earn money. I never said I wanted charity.” she turned to leave but he held her hands, a frown appearing on his face. He had already been kind enough to not leave her after last night.

He held her wrist tightly, adding more pressure. “Ha! You are the one who approached me. Now you are playing hard to get?” his voice sounded sinister and his eyes were cold and full of killing intent making her frown.

She noticed that he would not let go. And sighed, her face softening,

“Last night you took me to the hospital. I am grateful for it, Alex. I am even thankful that you came to help me at this moment. But I have never applied to be your woman. You are not even an adult. I have offered that I will help you in finding the people who are using you and keep your secret in exchange for a payment. I will accept friendship from you. But nothing more than that, I apologize if you misunderstood my actions. Now will you please let me go?” Her voice was soft, kind and almost helpless. His grip slowly loosened.

“I did not look at you any other way too. I am not even interested in women.” a startled laugh escaped her lips before she could control herself.

“Do not worry, your secret is safe with me.” his eyes widened at her reply and then narrowed coldly. But his anger faded a lot.

“Victor and I were only discussing a video game. Are you fond of them?” Nora rubbed her wrist but still smiled at them. She realized Alex was completely different from what others think about him.

He was kind and caring. He just could not be handled head on. But if you are vulnerable then he will try to protect you. Like he was trying to protect her whenever she admitted defeat.

“Would you like to play one with me? I have never played it before.”
