Return Of The Heiress For Revenge - Chapter 491
Chapter 491: Philanthropic!
“Two weeks had passed, why did the girl not return yet?” Nora looked confused as she pushed the files away and stood up from her seat.
Alric signed the last file, shaking his head helplessly.
“Why are you worried about it? Should you not be happy that you do not need to deal with her anymore?” Nora pouted, looking like a gossiping girl who could not handle the dull life.
He waved at her and when she walked closer, he wrapped his arms around her hips and pulled into his arms.
“Max had hardly returned to his house. He is ignoring Natalie. Lisa had no reason to visit Natalie again. But if you are so worried about them, why don’t you visit their house and give them a chance to speak? I am sure Max had spoken to Natalie about himself and Lisa.” Nora sighed and leaned into his chest.
“The poor man did not even know who he loved! He had not changed at all.” Alric raised a brow and made circles on her back.
“Does it mean he was in love with you in the past?” his voice did not change yet she felt his possessiveness on her body like a mark igniting. “Did you love him too?”
“I felt solace in him. But it was more like the warmth of family than the passion of a lover.” she sighed, looking at the distance, “he is like an elder brother to me and I want him to be happy.”
“Hmmm.” he went to make circles again and she sighed. This man and his jealousy had no end.
“I thought jealousy would let them see what they could not. But what if they did not choose each other?” She raised her head to look at him and he smiled as if she was still a kid.
“Go and meet her and then decide.” Nora sighed but she stood up and went to change her dress.
When she returned Emma was standing there grinding. Nora raised a brow.
“How did you return?”
“Boss could not bear to assign a man to you.” her laughter was almost teasing, “i wonder when he would be sure about himself.” Nora ignored Emma as she picked up her bag.
“Who is guarding the house?” Emma whistled low and quiet as she watched Nora’s figure from behind.
“Just two men. But Alric is somehow sure that she would not be attacked anymore for the time being. And he is never wrong.” Nora shook her head as she walked out. Emma took the driver seat and drove the car with practiced ease.
“Were they not talking at all?” Emma shook her head.
“Max comes home late and leaves early in the morning. Natalie is already asleep when he comes and still sleeping when she leaves. Or just pretending to ignore him. But her appetite had lost. She hardly cooks and eats. After clearing, she spent most of her time either planting the flowers in the balcony or reading books on motherhood.” Nora nodded, her gaze staring at the passing cars, specifically noticing the one that started following them.
Emma noticed her gaze and sighed.
“That car is following you for a week. Do not mind it.” Nora nodded and looked away. Soon they stopped in front of a large entrance.
The guard stopped then despite checking the vip number plate and asked them a few questions. Only when he confirmed nat did they let them pass.
“Max had warned the guard after what happened with Lisa. but the guard confirmed that he had called that day too. Lisa had given a different house number. We are still checking it.” She stopped the car.
They opened the door and found Nat holding a kitchen knife. Her face covered with sweat, she only let it go when she saw Nora walking closer and hugging her.
“Are you okay?” Nat nodded.
“I was just… scared.” she gave a forced helpless smile when she felt Nora hurting her again and rubbing her back.
Nat felt exhausted. It had been days since she was locked in her room and all those dreading thoughts returned. She had never been this scared of whispers.
“Is this how Max is taking care of you? I must say I am disappointed.” Nora’s face went dark and she looked at Emma. Emma took out her phone instantly and dialed a number. Before nat could understand she heard max’s voice from the other side.
“Emma, is everything alright?” The panic was visible even through the phone. Nora scoffed.
“If you had cared, you would have spent more time with her to protect her and make her feel safe.”
“….” the call went silent for a long time. When they thought he would not reply, he smiled.

“I am busy with some operations. But if you want, I can come early today. I will take you all to a good BBQ place to make it up for you.” Nora knew he was trying. But she did not reply instantly. She turned to look at natalie. Waiting for his permission.
Nat wanted to refuse but she knew it would make things awkward, so she nodded quietly.
“Alright, I hope it is a good place. See you soon then.” Emma cut the call and grinned then.
“Finally, a party! My job is too exhausting.” She laid on the sofa and Nora looked around. Last time she had been here, the pace was barren.
“You have decorated it well. Shall we go to your room.” Nat nodded and brought Nora to her room. Nora paused at the door, clearly taken aback since she knew that room belonged to max.
“Max cares a lot more than I thought.” Nat looked away, a needle piercing her chest.
She was not ignoring Max because he had a girlfriend. She was ignoring him because he cared too much and it was affecting her. She had almost hoped for the impossible. She was only glad that Lisa had opened her eyes on time. She would not fall for the same delusions again.
“Yes, Max is too philanthropic!”
