Return Of The Heiress For Revenge - Chapter 499
Chapter 499: An Object!
“That would not be needed.” she stopped the man on his heels, making his eyes widened. Nora grinned watching his shock and nervousness. “From this moment on, I will not follow Chris Bernard anymore. But He will leave the country quietly, or I will destroy him before he tries another trick.”
The man opened his mouth, then closed it again, stunned by her sheer decisiveness. But in the end, he grinned widely. For him, this was a victory — easy and clean.
“Of course, of course,” he said hurriedly, bowing slightly in mock respect. “I’ll make the arrangements immediately. You’ll have no more trouble from Mr. Bernard.”
Without waiting for another word, he spun on his heel and practically skipped back to his car, his glee evident in his bouncing steps. The car roared to life and disappeared out of the parking lot within moments.
The underground space returned to silence.
Evelyn remained standing awkwardly by the pillar, her torn dress clutched tightly in both fists, her body half-turned as if ready to bolt at the first harsh word.
Nora turned to face her fully, her arms crossed over her chest. Her sharp eyes ran over Evelyn, assessing her with the cool detachment one might give a piece of secondhand merchandise. There was no pity in her gaze, only calculation.
“You’re a mess,” Nora stated plainly, her voice devoid of warmth. Evelyn flinched but said nothing, keeping her head bowed.
A small, humorless smile touched Nora’s lips.
“Do you know anything about the Spencer family?” she asked bluntly.
Evelyn shook her head, her tangled hair falling over her eyes. “N-no… I was only told recently… about the connection,” she stammered, voice barely a whisper.
Nora gave a slow nod, as if confirming something she had already suspected.
“Good,” she said shortly. “It’s better that way. The family is merciless and will never accept a daughter who has seen that side of the world.” Evelyn trembled. She wanted to ask why Nora helped her then. But she did not have the courage to do so.
“Come!” Without another word, Nora turned on her heel and strode toward the elevator. After a moment of hesitation, Evelyn hurried to follow, nearly tripping over her own feet in her rush.
Inside the elevator, Nora pressed the button for the executive floor.
“You will be cleaned up first,” Nora said coolly, breaking the heavy silence. “Then we’ll see if you are of any use to me. Do not worry, I will not sell you.”
Evelyn’s lips parted in silent surprise, but she quickly shut her mouth and nodded.
Nora smiled — a thin, cruel smile that never touched her eyes.
“Good girl,” she murmured, just as the elevator dinged and the doors slid open.
Evelyn followed her in a large office. Nora pointed at the closed door with her chin.
“There is a bathroom and a closet. I am sure you can fit in my dress. Go change your clothes first.” Evelyn was more than relieved to do so. She hurriedly went to take a bath.
Nora settled on her seat. Her eyes narrowed at the cold door before a smirk appeared on her lips. She took out her phone and pressed the number.
“She is here. You were right, she had the girl you were looking for. But how are you sure that she is the one and he has not changed her?” her voice was barely above a whisper in the cold room.
She sighed as she heard the reply.
“Alright, I will do it discreetly. And I will bring her home tonight. If you want you can invite Ava and Alex. Yes, I know it will be cruel to her. But hiding would be worse, Alric. I am sure Ava is a brave woman.” her voice faded with pain this time.
Just as Nora ended the call and set her phone down with a soft click, the bathroom door creaked open.
Evelyn stepped out cautiously, dressed in a pale blue summer dress that hung a little loose on her thin frame. Her damp hair clung to her temples, and her bare feet made no sound against the polished floor. She looked cleaner now, but also more fragile. She was like a porcelain doll that could shatter with a single careless touch.
Nora leaned back in her chair, one brow arching slightly in silent appraisal.
At the far side of the room, on a small side table, a tray of food had been prepared earlier. There was a bowl of warm soup, buttered bread, and a small plate of fruit. The rich aroma filled the room.
Evelyn’s gaze flickered toward it instinctively, and Nora caught the subtle gulp she tried to hide. Hunger gnawed at the girl, but she stood frozen, her hands clasped tightly in front of her.

Nora’s lips curled into a slow, almost amused smile.
“Eat,” she said simply, nodding toward the tray. Her tone was casual, almost indulgent — as if she were offering a treat to a stray animal.
Evelyn’s fingers twitched at her sides, but still, she didn’t move. Her wide, wary eyes stayed locked on Nora, filled with confusion and distrust.
Nora tilted her head slightly, observing her like a scientist studying a curious specimen.
“Go ahead,” she said again, a little softer this time. “It’s not poisoned.”
Slowly, Evelyn took a hesitant step forward, but even then, she kept glancing at Nora, as if expecting a trap to spring at any moment.
Finally, after a long moment of agonizing silence, Evelyn found her voice.
“W-why…” she whispered, so softly it was barely audible. She swallowed hard, her courage building piece by piece. “What… what use do you have for me?”
Her voice cracked at the end, but she forced herself to hold Nora’s gaze, even though it clearly terrified her to do so.
Nora’s smile deepened, not mocking, but definitely not kind.
At least the girl had some spirit left.
She steepled her fingers under her chin, her sharp gaze not softening one bit.
“I have still not decided that. Why? You want to return to where you came from?”
