Chapter 58: I Will Not Come Looking For You.
“Endure, it will hurt a bit.” Max warned as she held her hands higher. She nodded and closed her eyes, making him sigh.
“How do you manage to hurt yourself everyday.” he couldn’t help but feel agitated looking at her hands. The skin could be seen nowhere. Small pebbles and dust were sticking to her flesh and he was sure bones had been broken.
Yet she did not cry. She only winced when he cleaned her wounds.
“I fell.” she repeated when she felt his strong gaze making holes in her skin.
“From?” no one could feel any emotions in his expressions but the way his voice came. As if he was slapping her harshly with it. She frowned.
“It was a mistake.” That was the moment when he finished cleaning her hands and stared at her.
“I have already told you, Nora. I can take your guardianship from your family. I do not understand why you are still facing them, suffering? I know it is hard to trust a stranger but I am a doctor. And..” he closed his eyes. “Go, the nurse will take you for an x-ray. After that, we will see what we can do.” She knew he was not only talking about her bandage, but she feigned ignorance as she nodded and left the room.
From the start she did not see Alric at all. Once she told him in the car what happened, he left immediately. Of course, since he knew that his brother was not implicated DIRECTLY. He had no reason to stay.
Nora shook her head. It would have been good if he had felt guilty. She needed help from that man. But now, she had to make a different plan.
Gritting her teeth, she went for the x-ray and as they had predicted, her left hand was broken. She closed her eyes as she stood in front of the desk with the report in her hands when she felt someone standing behind her.
Before she could move away. She felt Max’s hands on her hands holding the report. He was checking the x-ray but he did not take it in his hands.
“You will need a cast for it now. Plaster will make sure that your healing would not be disrupted by your own self.” she raised her head only to see his chin. He was too close, making her frown.
As if finally noticing her discomfort, he took a step back and extended his hand. Frowning deeper, she gave the report to him. She followed him silently.
“Should I not be going to an orthopedist?”
“It is just a plaster. I am sure I am qualified to apply for it. Even sister Ana could do so for you.” Nora nodded. Applying plaster should not be so difficult. But she had always believed that hospitals follow procedure.
She ended up in the same room as before as a plaster was applied to her hand. Max personally urged to checked her other small wounds on her knees and her thighs.
“Take off your pants.” that would not be the first time Max would see a bare leg. In his job, he had seen all the parts of their body.
But when she took it off and laid on the bed with a towel covering her sensitive parts, he gulped. She was not looking at him but at the sister who was telling her do’s and don’ts for her hand.
He pinched his hand with force making himself sober. But his ears still turned red noticing her fair skin, the curve of her feet and her thin and curvaceous legs.
He frowned. Since when had he cared about the color or looks! He concentrated on the small wounds. The skin had come out from many places. He sat down to clean a wound and apply medicine there. But as he touched her soft left after that and noticed how easily her skin turned red as if a bruise was formwing just by holding it tightly, he found himself staring at her leg again.
“Ah! I will do that menial task, doctor.” The nurse finally remembered that she was not here for chatting. Embarrassed that a surgeon was cleaning the wound, she ran to Max.
Max blinked. He finally looked at the nurse and then the fair girl who was still MINOR. A minor. His pulse raced and he stood up at once. The force was enough to push the chair away, making the nurse pause in her way.
“I forgot that number 701 needed an immediate check up. I will return soon.” he blurted out hurriedly and left the room in haste.
Nora blinked and then shook her head. “Did he even take a break?” the nurse looked back at Nora from the door.
“Doctor Max checks every room when the patient is unattended in his free time. Then his OPD always has a good crowd waiting for him and not to forget the charity clinic he ran after his duty here. There he treats people either free or at negligible cost. Now imagine how much he rests in a day.” the nurse sighed, making Nora feel guilty.
She was one of them too. Using him whenever she needed. She had come to look at Max as if they were family. But she realized that might not be the case. He looked burdened today because of her.
“I will not look for him anymore.” though one would not make much difference. At least he would not worry about her and entangle himself in her affairs.
The nurse did not reply to that. She concentrated on cleaning her wounds.
“Stay in the hospital for two more hours. If you do not feel nauseous or any kind of pain, you are good to go.” The nurse checked the watch and it was already 3 am.

Nora nodded since she did not have anywhere to go anyway and closed her eyes.
The nurse left the room hoping to get some rest for herself too. But she was surprised to see Max standing close by and looking at the door with a strange look.
“Could it be that I have seen it wrong?”
