Chapter 75: Unwated Guest

“You are finally here.” an old man sitting on the sofa and browsing through papers asked Alex in a stern voice. “Your mother had called so many times but you never answered.” The voice went colder with the second sentence but Alex only passed a glance to the man before walking past him toward the stairs.

The man’s eyes narrowed. His face went cold at once.

“Is that how you are going to behave after returning? No greetings or respect? Have I sent you to school to learn disobedience? If that is the case, you do not need to return home at all.” he scolded in a louder voice when Alex paused in his tracks.

With a casual look on his face, he turned and descended the stairs. When the man saw him returning, an arrogant smile started to appear on his face but it froze when he noticed that Alex was not coming to greet him. But he was leaving the house because he was told to leave!

His face went cold instantly and he slapped the table with force.

“Leave and I will make sure to freeze all your accounts! Do not forget that you are spending my money to live such a carefree life.” the man roared, trembling with rage. His eyes were so cold that they were dripping blood.

Alex only paused for a second. He did not care if his accounts would be sealed or if he would starve to death. His eyes were so cold that no emotion was left on them. Not even worry for himself.

But before he could leave, a woman came running from the kitchen.

“Alex.. stop!” she glared at her husband with displeasure and ran to get a hold of her son. “Alex! Your father is only worried for you. He had not seen you in ages.” the woman spoke softly, afraid that she would worry the child further. “Now, I understand that you are tired and want to rest first. I will explain to your father. You should go and have a rest first.” she spoke in a gentle voice after that Alex would not listen to him.

Alex paused. He neither replied to the woman nor did he return to the house at once. His cold eyes stared at the door as if it was a strange being. He did not even blink as he kept staring.

“Alex, I have cooked your favorite meal.” She persuaded me again. Only for Alex to blink and look at her.

“Ava!” the man behind her scowled but she ignored him and held Alex’s arm. When he did not struggle anymore. She brought the young boy back to the house.

Passing a meaningful look to her husband sitting on the sofa she guided Alex back to the first floor and opened the room for him.

“Why are we still living here!” Alex asked in a cold voice the moment he entered the room. His mother paused, the smile stiffened on her face but she took a deep breath and calmed again.

“Alex, this is our home. Where else should we live?” she asked, feigning ignorance. But Alex only scoffed at her and pushed the table in front of him with a kick.

“If it had been our house then that man would not have been living here. I heard your husband tried to persuade him again to join the company.” The mocking voice was full of rage and hostility. Ava tried to maintain that smile, but failed!

“Alex, Alric is kind. Only yesterday, he brought a gift for me.” she was convinced, only to get a scornful look from Alex that she bit her lips.

“And that was enough for you to accept that your husband had cheated on you in the early days of your marriage. That he had a son older than me living with us. Not only did he dare to have an affair but he fooled you for a decade and only told you about his son when you gave birth to me so that you would be trapped in this marriage forever.” he shouted loud enough for the whole house to hear.

His chest heaved with rage. That was the only reason he had refused to come home for a long time. In the past, he was a fool to believe that Alric was his real brother. He used to call Alric brother lovingly and follow him everywhere.

He had seen the sad face of his mother but he had never understood the reason until he grew up and understood. Since then he had hated himself for being a fool.

“Leave with me! I am strong enough to protect you. I will earn enough that you do not face any trouble. Mother, I am going to leave for the university, come with me and live there.” he requested again only for her mother to close her eyes and take a deep breath.

“Alex, the dinner would be ready in half an hour. Inform the maids if you want to join me in the dining room or you want to send me your dinner in your room. After dinner, we are going to celebrate your good marks in the exam.” she inhaled a deep breath and smiled at Alex whose eyes showed shock and then rage.

He took a step back and punched the wall again. Then he started to laugh. His laughter was worse than a cry. It was so hollow and full of pain that Ava closed her eyes and left the room.

Just as she walked out, she noticed Alric standing in the hallways. His eyes were fixed on the ground, she paused and only then did he notice that she had returned. He smiled at her and nodded in greeting then he turned and walked away, suddenly pausing after a few steps.

“I have a sudden meeting arranged in Staria city. I will not be home for two days.Tell Alex, I am sorry I could not greet him properly before leaving.”
