Chapter 83: Nothing Like My Wife
“That would not be appropriate. Would it?” Although Nora said so, Victor could see that she was tempted by the idea. In reality, Nora was. She wanted a break from the regular arguments with Penny. But at the same time she wanted a witness. Witness to prove that she was away from the school and their house when the accident happened.
Victor chuckled when he noticed her eyes. But his heart clenched. Just how much she had suffered in her life for her to be like this.
“My father would prefer to discuss the details further. It would be taxing to come and go every time. Would it not be better that you stay here and decide everything in these two days so that you can sign the contract soon.” Nora thought about it and slowly nodded.
“Then I have to trouble you.” she smiled sweetly making him blink.
“Nonsense! What is there to be troubled.” Nora beamed when Mrs Jhonson entered the room. The motherly vibe around her reminds her of her childhood. Alas those memories were already faded!
“Your father would be busy stirring the pot. You should go and help him.” Victor rolled his eyes before standing up and giving an exaggerating salute to his mother and leaving.
Nora blinked with an open mouth. Who would believe her if she told them that Victor was so warm and dramatic in his house?
Nora looked away from the door when the lady took the seat beside her.
“So, Nora, tell me about yourself.” The woman’s eyes were glittering and Nora felt a lump forming on her throat. She had anything she could share with this warm woman?
“I am Victor’s classmate. I have designed a game. So I wanted guidance from Mr Jhonson. I..” Mrs Jhonson shook her head. The girl was stiff as a stick.
“Of course dear. You would do well with my husband. How did you get injured?” She looked at her wounds again.
“It was an accident.” Nora had a wry smile on her face that made the women sigh.
“You know my husband and son are cooking the rest of the food. We should at least go to the garden and pick some flowers for the table. No?” Nora blinked again as the woman already stood up and waited for her. Was the army of servants just for decoration when the master or the house is cooking and the mistress would work in the garden? But who was she to complain about?
She slowly followed Mrs Jhonson in the garden. It was a small but beautiful garden with five different colors of roses and lilies. There were various other small plants Nora did not know about.
Mrs Johnson passed the flowers to Nora for holding while she cut them personally with a soft smile on her face. The way she tenderly worked on the flowers, Nora was sure that she cherished them a lot.
“You know when Victor told me that he was bringing a friend home, I thought it would be another boring boy. They will coop up in his room and play video games or do a project. But I was surprised when I saw you. This is the first time my son has brought a.. Sensible friend.” she corrected herself hurriedly. “I am glad that you came.” She cut the last flowers and turned toward Nora. Nora lowered her head.
“Thank you. You are so kind.” came Nora’s stiff voice as she looked at the dozen or red and yellow flowers in her hands. She did not know how to deal with a kind woman. It had been so long since she had met one.
“Hey honey! Lunch is ready.” came the soft voice of Mr Jhonson. He sounded so different than before.
“Oh! We are already starving.” The woman wrapped an arm around Nora’s hands making her stunned and dragged the stiff Nora back into the house.
Victor and Mr Jhonsons were already on the table while the maid was bringing pot after pot full of food. The fragrance of the delicious food wafting in the air.
They had their shirts folded up to their elbows and were discussing something.
“Nora, pass the flowers to them. They will arrange it the way I like. I will check the kitchen first.” Nora nodded.
Mrs Jhonson stopped at the kitchen door and started at the table. She watched as Nora walked to the table. Her heart was in her throat. But when she noticed the girl might pass the flowers to her husband, she frowned.
“Honey, I need you for a minute.” The flowers were still in the air when Mr Jhonson stood up and excused himself from the table. Nora could only pass the flowers to Victor.
Victor looked at the flowers in his hands and then at the girl sitting beside him. A strange smile on his face.
“Madam, asked me to give you so that you can arrange them.” Nora reminded him when Victor only stared at the flowers in his hands and did nothing. She was worried that Mrs Jhonson would return and scold Victor again.
“Ah! Yes.”
Mr Jhonson frowned when he saw his wife leisurely standing at the door with a mischievous smile on her face. She was looking at the table,
“Honey.” before he could speak. She covered his lips with her hands making his eyes narrowed.

“Can you not see honey? Your son looks different today.” frowning, he turned to see the table too. His eyes narrowed again when he noticed the girl was checking the dishes but his son was staring at the girl with a lost expression and when she coughed suddenly, he passed her the water.
“He looks just like you when we started dating. Do you remember when I visited your house for the first time with my family? You were…” Mr Jhonson did not hear the rest. His eyes only narrowed at Nora. his son could be like him, but Nora was nothing like his wife!
