Chapter 96: Not A Coincidence
“Nora, the teacher is calling for you in the principal’s office.” Everyone turned to look at Nora. She was like a rising star. No day would pass when her name was not heard in the class.
“The class used to be so peaceful, ever since Nora had returned everyone around her was suffering.” whispered someone with a frown.
“Yes, first her sister and now her roommates. Everyone around her was surrounded by accusations. It could not be a coincidence.” Everyone had heard Lisa and Linda accusing Nora but in the end they suffered. Only a fool would believe that it was so simple.
“Ha! Just because she was accused and dared to retaliate, was it her mistake? She should just bow down and accept everything?” asked someone only to get glares in the class.
Nora did not care about any of them. She knocked on the principal’s room.
“Come in.” five of the teachers teaching in her class were all present. The principal smiled at her and offered her a seat.
“Nora, two students were found cheating in your class. Both of them accused you of having trapped them. You have put the slip in their clothes at night when they were sleeping. Do you have anything to say about it?” his voice did not have a hint of accusation but their eyes were piercing her.
“Their words are enough to call me here?” she smiled without a hint of annoyance but her calm question dumbfounded them.
“We have only called you to discuss it with you. It is not like we are accusing you. But do you not find it strange that both of them have accused you?” Nora’s lips curled slightly. Truth fails in front of power. The teachers were not dumb to not see the truth, but they did not care about an abandoned girl like her but they wanted to satisfy the vanity of a rich girl like Nora.
“Is it not common that cheaters put the blame on someone else? They are friends, when one blamed me, the other thought of that idea too.” Her voice was so soft and calm that a few interpreted it as her fear but the principal’s eyes narrowed. He remembered her last offer. She could help him with a better career.
“Your guardians had been called Nora. your answers did not match your last performance and many students complained that you were cheating in the exams. We have to check it properly.” he explained with a helpless look.
It was planned even before Linda and Lisa were found guilty. And the instant knocking on the door proved it. The door opened revealing a frowning woman. She looked at Nora icily as if she wanted to devour her.
“What did you do this time?” she snarled, “i am exhausted of your ambitious and wicked nature. Have you not spread enough rumors about me and my daughter to improve your image! Now you are targeting innocents too!” Nora looked at her aunt with a strange calm even when her aunt had a bitter and abusive voice.
Watched by the whole staff, She leaned over and hugged the woman. With a disdained smile she said to the edgy woman, “do not perform in a hurry. First let them explain the matter and only then you should react or you would ruin your performance.” The voice was so soft and full of sweetness, but her aunt felt a sudden fear as if she had fallen into a trap by coming here.
“Mrs Stone, there is no proof against your Nora Stone yet. We have only called her here for enquiry and you were called to support her. If the accusation is proved wrong, you can even complain against the staff for slandering your daughter.” everyone’s eyes widened with a look of shock only Nora kept smiling as if it was under her expectation.
But no one understood why the principal is supporting this girl? Even Mrs Stone frowned. She had believed that David had given enough bribe to this old man to expel Nora already.
“Of course.” she nodded, “but i am sure teachers would not slander Nora without reason. I heard that two students had accused her of cheating and she had..” she stopped. Last time she had called Nora a cheater and a person from university had supported her. It was like a slap on their faces. She was not going to repeat it. Did Penny say that there would be proof this time?
“She had worked hard for the exam but you never know. How about we call those girls and ask them why they have accused Nora?” the principal nodded and Lisa and Linda were brought in.
They both looked pale and sweating when they faced all the staff but when their eyes fell on Nora, fury burnt them.
“Both of you had cheating notes with you when you were giving exams, yet you are accusing another student? Are you not afraid that you would be expelled in the mid session and no other school will give you admission? How can you be so vicious?” Mr Summer stood up and asked in a stern voice.
The girls shivered and held each other’s hand. They have thought about this question more than a hundred times before coming here.
“Those slips were part of the notes we have prepared to help Nora since she is injured and was having troubles in making notes. We do not know how they ended up in our hands. We had no intention to cheat.” they bowed their heads deeper, “sir, you can check our records so far. We have never been found cheating before.” the girls begged. Mr Summer turned to look at Miss Jane confirming. The woman frowned.
“And what about the slip you have thrown toward Nora? It feels like she has refused to help you so you are dragging her with you.” Linda bit her lips instantly. Even she did not understand how that slip was written in her handwriting.
“She had copied my handwriting to slander one instead. She had orchestrated this whole accident.”
