Chapter 324: Reaching the Abyssal Sanctum (3)
Third Person’s POV
Soon, the cat’s eyes softened, and the tension in its body ebbed away.
Taking that as acceptance, Ethan’s finger began to glow with a faint white light.
Carefully, he drew a complex, abstract rune across its brow with each of his strokes pulsing with a controlled energy.
Once complete, he dragged the glowing rune from the cat’s head and gently pressed it against Velcy’s forehead.
The runes shimmered and then sank into their skin and vanished like water into sand.
Velcy gasped and her eyes widened as a fresh awareness bloomed inside her.
It was none other than a subtle but warm connection to the little creature.
Ethan finally handed her the sandy cat, and it didn’t resist this time.
Instead, it curled into her arms with natural familiarity, as if it had always belonged there.
The two began to play immediately, their bond seamless and spirited.
Just as Ethan had guessed, the cat had likely wandered into the carriage because it was drawn to Velcy’s aura.
And now, it had found a place to stay.
Now that the matter with the sand cat was resolved, Ethan gently tapped the flower vase on the small table, and with a soft shimmer, the walls of the carriage turned transparent.
In the next moment, like a curtain being lifted, the view outside was unveiled to the girls.
An eerie silence settled in as the strange red wasteland came into view.
Even Velcy, who had been giggling and playing with the sandy cat like they were long-lost companions reunited by fate, froze mid-motion, and her bright expression dulled into one of shock.
However, the little cat was still hanging lazily from her snowy white hair as it nibbled at the strands and pawed at them with playful insistence.
It was totally unbothered by the sudden shift in atmosphere as it continued its antics, but this time, no one paid it any mind anymore.
Ethan’s eyes scanned the desolate horizon, with its jagged ridges, the dark crimson soil, and a distant haze that blurred the line between earth and sky.
His gaze turned to Virelle with a silent question lingering in his eyes as he sought answers.
Virelle met his look with a gentle smile and said,
“It seems we will reach the Abyssal Sanctum in a day or two.”
Her voice was calm but laced with a trace of awe.
“I had intended to tell you about this in a few more days, but…”
She glanced outside.
“It seems we have covered a vast stretch of land overnight, as it was something that should have taken us three to four days, but it seemed to have been done in one night by our special old driver.”
Her gaze swept the landscape.
“This region is known as the Crimson Wasteland, the very heart of the Blood Veil Continent.
It is the most enigmatic and arguably the most treasured area here. Very few tread it, and even fewer understand it.”

Ethan’s brows lifted in mild surprise on hearing her account.
She continued,
“This place is home to the Abyssal Sanctum… and the Crimson Kill Tower.
The two exist side by side while forming a strange duality, as if one balancing the other in a deeply interwoven fusion.”
The sudden, unfamiliar, and strange name of this Crimson Kill Tower struck Ethan like a sharp note played out of tune.
It was unfamiliar, completely absent from his extensive studies, and from his Master Nyx’s lessons… even Virelle herself had never once mentioned it before.
His gaze sharpened as he asked,
“What is this ‘Crimson Kill Tower’? Why haven’t I heard anything about it before?
And why didn’t you tell me about this strange place?”
As he spoke, he moved closer and, without hesitation, slipped an arm around Virelle’s slender waist and, with a smooth pull, he drew her firmly into his chest.
“Hyaa~”
A startled and delicate yelp escaped her lips before she could stop it, and her face flushed a deep, vivid red that seemed to almost blend comically with the hues of the wasteland beyond.
Her scarlet eyes shimmered and started to water, but it was not from pain or discomfort, but from a wave of shy joy that overtook her all at once.
Her hands pressed against his chest instinctively, not to push him away but to steady herself as her emotions spun.
As the second passed, she couldn’t stop herself as she tiptoed and leaned forward.
Without a word, she brushed her lips against his. The kiss was soft and tender in its quiet intensity.
Ethan blinked in surprise at her sudden affection.
He had only meant to fluster and tease her a little with the aim of drawing out a reaction from her.
But this unexpected warmth that poured from her touched something deeper in him.
He deepened that gentle and innocent kiss and looked into her watery eyes as he sucked her upper lip while she bit his lower lip in return.
After an unknown amount of time, their lips parted slowly, and a faint breath escaped him.
Somehow, this unexpected but loving kiss seemed to soothe the aches in his body—the cuts, those serious injuries, and even the lingering weight of the nightmarish vision he had just experienced the previous night.
In that brief moment, all the turbulence inside him stilled, and a rare and fragile peace blanketed his soul.
He looked down at Virelle as his heart swelled with a sudden love and gratitude.
Her cheeks were still flushed, but her eyes met his with quiet love, and something unsaid passed between them.
It was a shared promise of an everlasting bond.
Then suddenly, Virelle turned her head sharply to the side and stiffened when she saw that the duo of Velcy and the sandy cat were staring at them with wide and clueless eyes that held a mix of curiosity and wonder.
Velcy’s mouth hung slightly open, though something hidden and unknown to Virelle flashed in her eyes.
