Chapter 104: _Catherine Meets Her Match
I turned my gaze back to see who had dared to stop me.
My eyes dimmed when I saw Elsa’s father, Mr. Thatcher, striding toward me with a frown on his face.
“Don’t tell me you were about to attack my daughter, Alpha.” He remarked sternly, his voice not even wavering slightly.
Talk about ‘A’ for audacity!
I clenched my fists, swerving my body to him. “Fine, Mr. Thatcher, I wouldn’t tell you. But I will tell you that your idea of Elsa being my wife is becoming more and more impossible with each passing hour.” I uttered.
Elsa’s father squinted his eyes but didn’t dare say anything else.
It seemed he had noticed the change in my mood and wasn’t willing to test it.
Good.
Without sparing him or his daughter another gaze, I walked past him, heading into the mansion to check up on Phoebe.
But by the time I got into the mansion, I was able to get a sense of the atmosphere among the staff members who loitered around.
“Do you think the Luna is dead?” One guard whispered without realizing that I was nearby.
“Dead? Where did you get that idea from?” Another guard rolled his eyes at his comrade’s words. “The most plausible explanation is that she’s sick or got into some sort of accident.”
The murmurings from staff were becoming too much, and I had no choice but to block them out, completely ignoring them as I made my way up the stairs.
Finally, I got to the door of Phoebe’s suite and burst inside, sighing in relief when I saw her lying on her bed peacefully.
“Did you encounter any hiccups, Lyra?” I turned my gaze to my assistant and asked.
She was sitting beside Phoebe’s bed but quickly stood up and bowed slightly. “Everything has been going smoothly so far, sir. The pack soldiers will be here shortly.”
I nodded curtly though my expression remained stoic.
Meanwhile, Phoebe’s family sat in the suite and stared anxiously for their daughter to wake up.
‘Everyone who cares is counting on you, Phoebe.’ I thought to myself while caressing her face when I stood beside her. ‘Wake up already.’

The pack doctors finally arrived and ran a few tests. But it didn’t take them long to give Phoebe some medications, after which a male doctor turned his gaze to me.
“She’ll be fine, Alpha. Her wolf is just still in shock and a state of stasis but is awakening again.” He revealed, causing me to sigh in relief.
However, it seemed he wasn’t done with talking. “I did notice something though. It seems your proximity determines how long it takes her wolf to recuperate.”
Huh?
My brows furrowed in confusion as I tilted my head, waiting for the man to elaborate.
“What I’m trying to say is that the mate bond seems to have some kind of positive effects that help in lessening her healing time, as long as you two are close to each other.” The doctor took his time to explain, glancing at Phoebe’s family as well.
Phoebe’s mother and father stared at each other with complicated expressions on their faces but I soon regained my composure and shook my head.
“Thank you, doc. I’ll stay close to her until she recovers.” I said with a nod of my head.
The doctor smiled before leaving, closing the door behind him.

However, before I could begin comprehending what he had just explained, the door burst open again and my mother waltzed in with a scowl on her face.
“What is the meaning of this, son?” She snapped, completely ignoring the existence of Phoebe’s parents.
I gawked at her speechlessly, already feeling like I was about to develop a headache.
Just then, my mother turned her gaze to Phoebe’s family and scoffed. “Well, well, well. I see you’ve gone trash-picking.”
Argh, here she goes again!
“Mom, can we not do this now?” I queried, rubbing my forehead with frustration. “Phoebe is still recovering and–”
“And who cares?!” My mother spat, glaring at the unconscious Phoebe for an extended period before fixing her stern gaze back on me. “She was finally out of this house, Kaene. Finally out of our lives, and barely two days later, you’re already dragging her back in?!”
I gritted my teeth, withholding myself from latching at her.
Just then, Phoebe’s brother spoke up. “With all due respect, ma’am, but this mansion is Phoebe’s home as well. She’s Luna and chosen by the moon goddess herself.”
Oh, the boy did have a loose mouth.
My mother’s face contorted into a frown as she walked toward the boy, her eyes flaring like fire in a hearth.
However, I was able to hold her back before she could do anything brash, shoving her away from Phoebe’s family.
“Let go of me, let me teach this runt some manners!” My mother struggled to get out of my grip but it was no use.
Soon, her shoulders relaxed, and she yanked her hands out of my grip. “Get these people out of this mansion, Kaene, or I swear to the Moon I–”
“You will do nothing, Mother,” I stated coldly, my words leaving no room for rebuttal.
But my mother was undeterred. “Oh, yes, you will. Have you gone mad?! Your mate cheated on you and the next thing you do is welcome her with open arms and even bring her wretched family inside?”
Suddenly, Phoebe’s mother who’d been silent all this while, got up with creased eyebrows. “I’ve heard rumors of just how heartless you are but seeing it up close brings a whole new perspective.”
Phoebe’s father held his wife and tried forcing her to sit but she yanked her arms out of his grip, coughing erratically in the process.
“Don’t, Rowan. Someone needs to talk some sense into this wicked woman!” She snarled, not holding back with her words.
I was stunned to see someone attack my mother so openly.
Looks like Catherine Maverick finally met her match.
‘At least, now I know where Phoebe got her temper from.’ I thought to myself, quietly watching the scene unfold.
Suddenly, before the two women could exchange any more words, I heard a gasp come from Phoebe’s bed, causing me to turn back.
“Kaene?”
