Chapter 108: _No One Will Hear Your Screams
“Uhh…” I was speechless, gawking at what Negan held in his hands.
It was a rose. A white rose, to be specific.
It looked so pretty in his hands, even more so when he stepped forward and forced it into my hands.
“I saw it during my nightly walks in the gardens and remembered you.” He muttered, clasping my hands in his.
My heart fluttered as I stared into his eyes, my head feeling like I was floating.
Gosh, the Beta was something else!
“Thank you, Negan,” I whispered with a slight smile curling up my lips, staring at the rose in my hands. “But then I didn’t get you anything and…”
I trailed off, my eyebrows furrowing into a frown.
What the heck was I doing?
“Don’t tell me you’re trying to flirt with me, Negan?” I folded my arms in front of my chest, squinting my eyes.
He scoffed, an amused smirk lighting up his face. “Call it whatever you want, honey. I’m simply trying to be nice to an equally nice friend.” He remarked.
Friend… I like the sound of that.
Negan gave me a pat on the shoulder soon after before walking toward the window from which he’d entered the room.
However, I called him back before he could jump out. “Wait.”
He paused, turning his head to me with curiosity in his eyes.
I hesitated, wondering why I called him back in the first place. I was supposed to be asleep at this hour.
I glanced at my family, my eyes going from my mother who slept soundly on my bed, hugging a pillow and probably subconsciously thinking it was me.
And then there was my brother and father both sleeping on the couches beside the bed.
I sighed, turning my gaze back to Negan. “I can’t sleep and I feel like I need a walk outside.”
He tilted his head, took a step away from the window, and walked toward me. “Oh. Are you… Are you sure that’s a good idea? You know… Considering us hanging out at night was how we ended up in this mess in the first place.”
My face heated up with a blush as I tried my best to hide it away from him.
Argh, why did he have to go there?!
“You know what? Sorry for asking, Beta Negan.” I said plainly, turning away from him and about to walk back to my bed when his strong hands held my shoulder.
I gasped silently when he pulled me back, a mischievous smirk that I wasn’t used to seeing appearing on his face.
“I was only joking around.” He teased, poking me in the nose. “Jeez, did the accident make you extra grumpy or something?”
I rolled my eyes, pulling myself out of his hold. “Things have been really weird between us, Beta Negan. And I–”
Before I could finish speaking, he chimed in. “Negan.”
I furrowed my eyebrows, not getting why he called his name.
“I told you, there’s no need for you to use my title when referring to me.” He added, giving me more clarity.
I stared at him for a few seconds before shaking my head. “Get me out of this mansion then, my old pal Negan.”

After Negan snuck us both out of the mansion, I took in a deep breath, allowing the cold night breeze to caress my skin.
I hugged myself, staring at the half-phase moon that hung in the sky.
“It’s a beautiful night,” I muttered, feeling an odd sense of peace surge through me.
There was also the fact that my body seemed to have fully healed. I could no longer feel that annoying headache I felt when Kaene had come to visit me.
It was weird but it was almost as if his presence had increased the healing speed of my wolf.
“Not much of a beautiful pack though.” Negan suddenly spoke in response to my last statement, scoffing and looking away from me.
I dimmed my eyes, my lips curling into an amused smile. “Why do you say that?”
I stared at this face curiously but was only graced with his side profile.
However, he soon turned his gaze to me, his hazel eyes glinting with emotions that I had no idea how to explain.
It was almost as if his eyes were empty yet held a myriad of emotions that would be impossible for one to decipher.
Finally, he looked away from me, a mischievous smirk on his face. “Trust me, honey. You wouldn’t want to know.”
Seeing his unwillingness to speak further about that, I coughed awkwardly, eager to change the topic.
“How’s your investigation on Delta Asher’s movements going? Have you discovered anything suspicious?” I queried, glancing around in case anyone was watching us in this unholy hour.
The anxiety I’d had concerning the Delta and his diabolical plans against Kaene had begun surfacing again since I woke up this evening from my coma.
I need new information to calm myself and perhaps bring some hope.
“Nothing new, to be honest.” Negan shook his head with a sigh as we finally got to a garden within the estate.
But it wasn’t just any garden.
This was the same garden where my affair with Negan had begun. It was also the same garden where Miranda had been murdered.
“Can we go to literally any other garden in this estate?” I asked, stopping at the entrance of the place with wariness.
I didn’t know why but I already had a bad feeling about the place.
Maybe it was because of all the awful things that have happened here. Or maybe I was just being paranoid.
“Oh, come on.” Negan waved casually, tapping me on my shoulder. “This is our spot. Besides, it’s not as if there’s any other garden in this estate that’s as serene as this one.”
He sighed, taking a whiff of the air as he stepped inside. “Anyone can scream here and it wouldn’t even be noticed by others.”
My heart skipped a beat at the thought as I glanced around at the place. What if the Delta decided to send someone here to eliminate Negan and me?
The pack members could just play it off as karma catching up to us.
“Negan. I think we should go…” I trailed off, my gaze falling on a tree in a corner.
I squinted my eyes, taking a step forward when I thought I saw something weird dangling on it.
“Phoebe? What’re you doing?” Negan called me with concern in his voice but I ignored him, my attention fixed on the tree.
I dimmed my eyes, turning around until I stood at the other side of the tree. My heart raced rapidly, cold sweat running down my back when I saw what was on the other side of the tree.
The white rose that Negan had given me fell out of my hands, and my mouth fell in shock.
“Ahhhh!” I didn’t know when I screamed, my voice quivering with fear as I placed my hand over my mouth.
