Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 116
Chapter 116: _Does He Love Her?
After hearing the Delta’s revelation, I tensed in my seat and glanced at Lyra.
A thought came to my head just then.
“Is this what you wanted to talk about, Lyra?” I queried, my eyes dimmed expectantly.
She nodded but was quick to add. “I had no idea that the poor girl killed herself. Although, I did see the video on social media being discussed in werewolf spaces.”
My brows furrowed at a word she used. “The poor girl? Why are you making it sound like she’s innocent?”
Lyra stiffened as she scratched her head nervously. “I– I didn’t mean to make it sound like that, sir. I was trying to point out how complicated the situation is and–”
I got bored of her explanation and honestly didn’t find it necessary.
I raised my hand, interrupting her before turning my gaze back to Delta Asher. “Hold up, I have to see this for myself.”
I brought out my phone and immediately logged into the social media platforms where werewolves were dominant, going to our community pages as well.
It didn’t take long for me to find the aforementioned video.
Indeed, the person in it was none other than Phoebe’s new personal maid, Brittany, who seemed oddly frightened in the video.
Her eyes shook with fear, which she tried hiding, and tears trickled down her face.
What was she so terrified of?
“This video was posted this midnight,” I observed, listening attentively to what the girl had to say while bringing my gaze back to the Delta. “Do the other Alpha council members know about this?”
The Delta had an awkward expression on his face, his eyes looking everywhere in the office except my face.
My eyes dimmed with suspicion as I scrutinized him, wondering what he was hiding.
“I honestly thought they’d report it to you and drop their bullshit from when we found out.” Delta Asher mumbled as if I couldn’t hear him.
I folded my arms in front of my chest, tilting my head in expectation of more context.
He noticed my gaze and quickly explained himself. “The Beta discovered the suicide note and the maid’s dead body first before alerting the Council. That’s when they unanimously agreed to keep this information from you.”
I felt like the pen in my hand was going to snap due to how tightly I held it.
What was the meaning of this?
“What do you mean they agreed to keep this from me? I’m the Alpha of this pack and it’s my responsibility to know about everything happening within it.” My voice came in a snarl.
Delta Asher seemed to agree with my words and nodded profusely. “Yes, my Alpha, you’re right. I tried to tell the other members of the council this but they were adamant with their decision. I couldn’t bear keeping it from you and decided to come to report it to you first thing when the sun has risen.”
I gazed at him for a bit but had nothing to say.
If things have gotten to the stage where my own Council doesn’t even trust my judgment in situations like this, then I really have fallen.
“Sir, your tea.” Lyra reminded me, placing her hand on my shoulder probably in a bid to comfort me.
I sighed, smiling at her in a show of appreciation before grabbing the tea and taking a huge gulp.
Gosh, I’ll need a refill soon.
“Thank you for sharing this information with me, Delta. You may go now.” I muttered, smiling wryly at the Delta.
He stood up and bowed slightly before taking his leave, but it didn’t take long for Beta Negan to also walk into my office.

This would be the first time I’ve seen him since the video of the affair.
After sending Lyra away, I found myself unnecessarily venting to my long-time best friend after initially being a little harsh with him.
I missed our friendship and wished things could work out differently… But what was done is done.
Even though Mr. Thatcher had told me to consider giving him the Beta title, I couldn’t risk it.
Negan was just too good for the post.
And one other thing he seemed to excel at was giving good advice.
“I want to confess my feelings to Phoebe,” I revealed to him, tensing up at the thought.
Why was I sharing this information with the person who my mate cheated on me with? I have no clue…
My mind was a mess, but now I felt a little light-headed and free-spirited… If that made sense.
It was like a high, but I couldn’t quite tell why I felt like this. I haven’t had any alcohol to drink anyway.
“May I sit?” Negan asked with hesitation in his voice.
I turned my gaze to the desk behind us before placing my hand on his shoulder. “Sure.”
With that, we both sat, Negan seeming a bit uneasy when he did. He had his gaze on me, scrutinizing me as if he were waiting for me to pull out a gun with a silver bullet and have my revenge.
But for the sake of our friendship and my peace of mind, I decided to hold myself back from doing anything rash even though I’d imagined impaling him in a hundred different ways in my mind.
Anyway, he finally allowed his shoulders to relax and broke the awkward silence. “So, I’m taking it that you haven’t told Phoebe the magic words yet.”
Magic words?
I squinted my eyes, showing him that I didn’t get what he was saying.
He sighed lightly, but his lips soon curled into a smirk. “The magic words I’m referring to are: ‘I love you’. Knowing you, I’m certain you haven’t told her that yet.” He remarked.
Oh… That.
I subconsciously squeezed my chair’s armrest before blurting. “No, I haven’t. Because I never believed my feelings would go beyond the mate bond. But now…”
I trailed, a little uncertain of my feelings still. I’ve never expressed love for a woman.
Ever.
The few past relationships I’ve had have been casual and ‘love’ was never a discussion in any of them.
That’s until I met Phoebe.
“Do you love her, Kaene?” Negan’s voice was a whisper, bringing some clarity to my mind.
Do I?
