Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 117
Chapter 117: _Weak Alpha
My heart raced as I processed Negan’s question and its complexities.
Do I love Phoebe?
It was a straightforward question and needed a straightforward answer but I didn’t have one.
Luckily, it seemed Negan noticed my hesitation and faked a cough, breaking the awkward air that had come from his question.
“I’m sure you’ll figure something out, Kaene. You always do.” He gave me a light fist bump on my shoulder, a smirk curling up his lips.
I gazed at him, my eyes narrowed at first until a slight smirk curled the corners of my lips.
Things between Negan and I would never be the same again but at least we were talking again.
“Alright, I guess I should leave you be.” He suddenly clapped his hands, heading toward the door. “It seems you have a lot to plan on your own but I’m sure you’ll do great. Good luck, Alpha Kaene.”
I gave him a curt nod, watching as he opened the door and walked out of the office.
Once the door closed behind him, I stood there in the middle of the office surrounded by complete silence.
It was a silence that allowed me to go through my thoughts, but going through them wasn’t a pretty sight to behold.
Gosh, I needed to unwind.
Just then, a knock came on the door and Lyra walked in holding a new glass of steamy tea.
I sighed at the sight, smiling at her as I grabbed the cup and immediately took a sip. “I’ll have to admit… Something is soothing about this tea, I can’t quite place my fingers on what it is.” I remarked out loud.
Lyra didn’t say anything, instead standing in front of me, awaiting my next orders.
It was then that I remembered something.
“Lyra, cancel any plans I have tonight and schedule a dinner date between the Luna and me,” I muttered, walking back to my desk with the tea in hand, sitting down and immediately looking through the ledgers. “Also, we’ll make preparations to organize a gathering for the entire pack where I can make things clear about the recent happenings.”
Lyra nodded, bringing out her iPad and writing what I told her.
However, just when I was about to place all my focus on the ledgers, she spoke up. “Sir? You scheduled a dinner date between yourself and Miss Thatcher for tonight.”
Huh?
I raised my head away from the ledgers and arched an eyebrow, genuinely confused about what she was talking about.
“A dinner date with Elsa of all people?” I repeated, shaking my head while chuckling. “Where did you…’
I paused, remembering just then that I’d indeed promised Elsa a dinner date when Phoebe was away.
It was simply just to get her out of my hair so I could think properly but I never realized I’d actually have to go through with it.
“Goddess, have mercy,” I mumbled, rubbing the bridge of my nose with an exasperated sigh.
Lyra stood there silently at first but eventually muttered with a little hesitation. “S– Should I reschedule your dinner date with the Luna to another night, or–”
“Heck no!” I almost hollered, my eyes shone dramatically. “Just… Just cancel the date with Elsa completely. That was a mistake in the first place.”
Lyra nodded, typing something into her iPad before a smile appeared on her face. “The event hall could be a perfect venue for your dinner date, sir. It’s spacious and convenient, not to mention the fact that it gives more privacy.”
Right… That was a good idea.
It would be a change from that garden where I’d given her the Luna necklace.

Now that I think about it… That garden had a lot of weird things happening around it. The fact that two dead bodies had been found there was disturbing.
“Inform the Gamma to increase the security in the garden where Brittany committed suicide if he hasn’t already,” I stated, going back to working on my company’s ledgers.
Lyra bowed slightly and was about to leave when I called her back. “Oh, and Lyra…”
She stopped in her tracks, swerving her head back to me with curiosity in her eyes.
I played around with the pen in my hands before I continued. “Please, make sure everything goes perfect tonight. I have a feeling someone is after Phoebe. Get the Gamma to increase the security detail around the hall as well. Let him distribute guards from the mansion there if he has to.”
Lyra nodded her understanding with a smile before she opened the door and walked outside.
I sighed, allowing myself to relax more in my seat.
It seems things were gaining a little bit of normalcy. A do-over should do the trick for Phoebe and me.
Hopefully.

Soon enough, night came, and the moon, which was almost at its full phase, hung in the star-filled sky.
I scrutinized the peculiar glow of the moon while adjusting the cufflinks of my black attire, standing in front of the window.
My mother’s tea was in my hand as I awaited Lyra’s call that the venue for the dinner was ready.
I’d told her to inform Phoebe as well so she should be waiting for me by now.
“Come on, Lyra. What’s taking you so long?” My brows furrowed into a frown as I drew out my phone, staring at the screen and expecting Lyra’s number to pop up.
Suddenly, I heard the door creak open, forcing me to swerve my head in its direction.
“Who’s there?” I queried, my eyes dimmed as I stared at the approaching figure in the darkness.
To my annoyance, it was Elsa who wore an admittedly gorgeous transparent black silk gown that flowed on the ground as she moved forward.
“I don’t recall telling you to come in, Elsa,” I said sternly, my eyebrows arched.
However, she didn’t stop until she was merely a meter in front of me, her eyes fluttering as she stared into mine.
There was an awkward silence; the only thing that could be heard was her heartbeat and breathing.
Oddly enough, they sounded like she was stressed about something.
What could that possibly be?
“You canceled our dinner date for tonight and arranged one with your slut of a mate.” She muttered with a cold tone, glaring at me.
I was a bit stunned by her defiance, my head tilted before I spoke. “Yes… So? And I honestly don’t appreciate you calling my mate a ‘slut’.”
I made sure my tone was as stern as possible but it seemed that did nothing to frighten Elsa even slightly.
Instead, she chuckled dryly, taking a step forward until she was leaning close to my ear. “But you and I know that’s what she is, Kaene. And the fact that you’re still interacting with her and the man she cheated on you with shows just how weak you’ve gotten.” She whispered.
Was she trying to irk me? Because if she was… It was working.
I balled my fists, raising my hand to slap her. Maybe she needed a little reminder of who she was talking to.
However, just before my hand could connect with her face, she caught my wrist with one hand and then landed a punch on my nose.
I stumbled backward, a sharp pain immediately spreading from my face to the rest of my body.
My breathing increased as I tried to recover from the shock.
When I brought my hand to my nose and touched it, my eyes widened with even more shock as a cold shiver ran down my spine.
Blood.
