Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 120
Chapter 120: _Don’t Trust Anyone
My mother gazed at me, expectantly waiting for me to answer her question.
I gulped, glancing at Negan who had a mischievous smirk at the corner of his lips.
Traitor!
“Y– Yes, Mom. Meet Beta Negan.” I pointed at him, trying hard not to seem awkward.
But it was way too late for that.
Suddenly, my mother got up from where she sat on my bed and bowed slightly in front of the Beta. My father and brother followed suit.
“Greetings, Beta Negan.” They all said in unison.
However, even though Negan had a plain expression on his face despite the greetings, he still managed to wave his hands casually. “There’s no need for that. You guys are the Luna’s family.” He remarked.
I arched an eyebrow at him, silently expecting him to state his purpose here.
The last thing I needed right now was anything that could aggravate the rumors flying around about the two of us.
“Lyra, the Alpha is still waiting for his tea.” Negan suddenly blurted, fixing his gaze on Kaene’s assistant. “When are you going to give him?”
She seemed stunned at first, blinking repeatedly and glancing at me as if I understood what the heck Negan was talking about.
However, she soon regained her composure and bowed slightly. “My apologies. I just came here to make sure the Luna and her family are settling in.”
Without another word, she walked away, taking the cup of hot cocoa in her hands with her.
There goes my hot drink…
“You’re such a gentleman, Beta Negan.” My mother blurted all of a sudden, taking everyone by surprise.
Mom? Calling Negan a gentleman?
My father was quick to chime in. “Yeah, I don’t think making our daughter cheat on her mate is such a ‘gentlemanly’ behavior.”
Oh gosh, no…
“No offense, of course.” My father added as if that was supposed to alleviate the blow his words gave.
Fortunately, it seemed Negan was cool with that as he gave nothing but a wry smile. “No amount of apologies can make up for that… But not to worry. Phoebe and I don’t plan on repeating our mistakes.”
He glanced at me and gave me a wink.
What the hell was that for?
“Ugh, are we eating or not?” My brother grumbled, snapping me out of my thoughts.
Oh, right… Negan had mentioned that he wanted to talk to me.
I jumped out of bed, stretching lazily before I walked up to him. “What did you want to talk about?” I asked.
His mouth parted but before he could say anything, he paused, glancing back at my family.
They all stared at us but soon looked away and pretended as if they had their attention on the food.
I sighed. “Let’s go to the balcony.”
Negan nodded, leading the way until we arrived at the balcony of my suite.

I placed my hands on the railing, drawing in a deep breath as I gazed at the beautiful blue sky.
“There’s trouble brewing, Phoebe.” Negan started with a solemn tone, leaning against the railing and gazing directly at me.
My face flushed with embarrassment when I saw how intensely he was staring at me, but I managed to keep my composure and respond. “What kind of trouble? Is this about the Delta? Do you have any new leads?”
I couldn’t help but feel frustrated, knowing that the Delta was after Kaene’s life but yet I couldn’t do anything.
Negan had convinced me to be patient until we could get more concrete evidence, but Delta Asher has been one cunning bastard.
He’s kept his tracks clean, increased security around his residence, and was careful not to make any slip-ups.
How the heck were we supposed to get compelling evidence from a man like that?
“I don’t exactly have any new leads,” Negan spoke up with a cryptic tone. “Just… Watch your back and don’t trust anyone. Even the most innocent-looking people can be hidden accomplices against Kaene’s rule.”
Even the most innocent-looking people?
I tensed up, glancing at Negan and noticing the expression on his face.
Despite his solemn tone, his face was oddly stoic and he didn’t bother glancing back at me anymore.
“Innocent-looking people like you, Negan?” My voice dropped to whisper as I chuckled, trying to ease the tension.
But he didn’t respond, instead stepping away from the railing of the balcony. “I can only hope you come out safe from this. I’m not sure yet but I have a feeling you’re also a target in the eyes of the Delta and those working with him. Be vigilant, honey.”
He patted my shoulder lightly before he walked away from the balcony, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
Why was Negan suddenly being so weird?
A cold shiver ran down my spine as I realized that I now no longer had to fear for Kaene’s life.
I might also have to start fearing for my life as well.
.
.
Night came faster than expected, and with it came something unexpected.
Lyra had earlier informed me that Kaene was inviting me for a dinner date.
At the event hall.
I didn’t know what to expect, but I made sure to dress up in gorgeous attire.
I wore a pink mermaid gown and had my hair flowing down the right side of my chest in wavy curls.
“Damn! I guess you and the Alpha have your spark back.” My brother whistled when he stepped out of the balcony and walked into the suite.
I rolled my eyes, grabbing a pillow and throwing it at him. “Shut up!”
He dodged it, chuckling playfully. “I’m just joking. But seriously, you look gorgeous. I wonder what Kaene has planned for this dinner.”
Sigh… I guess that’s all part of the surprise.
I grabbed my phone and walked out of the suite, but not before blurting. “Don’t wait up. And please, stay in here as much as possible so you don’t have any troubles with you know who.”
By ‘you know who’, I meant Kaene’s mother.
It didn’t take long for me to get to the event hall, which was dimly lit, with several colorful fairy lights adorning the walls.
There were several chairs and tables arranged inside, making it seem like a restaurant. The only difference was… The hall was eerily empty.
As I walked through the entrance, I spotted Lyra who gestured at a free table at a good spot.
“Here goes nothing…” I breathed out, plastering a smile on my face as I walked to the table.
