Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 122
Chapter 122: _Unexpected Traitor
To my horror, Lyra stood in my way, blocking the entrance to the event hall with a silver dagger in her hands.
She had the dagger pointed to my throat, its silver blade glistening under the dim light of the hall as she took some steps closer to me.
I stepped backward, confusion etched on my face. “L– Lyra? You’re working with the Delta as well?” I stuttered speechlessly.
Damn, I guess Negan was right when he said I shouldn’t trust anyone regardless of how innocent looking they seemed.
I would’ve never guessed that Lyra was against Kaene. Ever.
She looked like the textbook definition of a loyal worker.
“You’ll be surprised by the amount of people in this pack who are tired of Kaene’s rule, Luna.” Delta Asher’s voice boomed through the hall, his steps echoing as he approached us.
“Getting people like Lyra to join my cause was easy, especially after information about your alleged affair with the Beta leaked out. But Lyra… She’s been my spy since day one.”
I gulped, glaring at Lyra with clenched fists.
My wolf was already growling inside me but I needed to be careful not to overreact. I was outnumbered, not to mention that I just recovered from an accident.
“Great job sending the guards to other parts of the estate, Lyra. Now no one will be able to hear our darling Luna’s screams.” The Delta sniggered coldly.
For the first time in a while, I had to resort to calling for a truce in a conflict by raising both my hands in defeat. “I’ll… I’ll do whatever you want. Just please, don’t hurt Kaene. It’s not his fault that the pack is the way it is.” I muttered, staring at Lyra cautiously.
However, her face remained stoic, her dagger still pointed at my throat while the Delta cackled like a madman behind me.
“Are you being serious right now? Do you think you, a simple maid turned Luna, have a life that’s what negotiating for the Alpha of the Blue Moon pack?” He asked with a sarcastic tone, bursting into laughter again.
I gritted my teeth, already feeling my fingernails itching to elongate into wolf claws, but I held myself back again.
Anyway, for some reason, Delta Asher kept on yapping. “Your precious Alpha should be dead as we speak. Next, we’ll kill you, his mother, your family, and any other person who’ll stand in my way as I step forward and claim the spot as the new Alpha.”
I glanced back at him, spotting the menacing grin on his face as he gave Lyra a signal.
However, before she could do anything, I turned my gaze to her and fell to the floor, pretending as if I’d tripped on something.
“Bloody hell.” I blurted, grabbing my ankle and gasping in a dramatic show of pain.
It seemed Lyra bought my act as she briefly lowered her guard, staring at me with confusion in her eyes.
I used that opportunity to stealthily unbuckle a leg of my shoe which I flung at Lyra’s face.
The shoe hit a bullseye, landing directly in between her eyes and causing her to stumble backward while rubbing her forehead in pain.
I didn’t end there, managing to get up and yank the dagger off her hands before using my elbow to slam her in the face, knocking her out briefly.
My chest rose and fell as I struggled to catch my breath. That whole maneuver had happened within the span of a few seconds.
Suddenly, a clap echoed around the hall, forcing me to turn my gaze to the Delta, who slowly lowered his hand to the back of his pocket.
“Impressive. You have a fierce fighting spirit, Phoebe.” He commended me with a cynical grin. “Something which I’ll need in a Luna. I haven’t found my mate yet, and I’ve already arranged with Mr. Thatcher to make Elsa my Luna when I ascend, but you can be one of my breeders who’ll give me strong children to strengthen my bloodline.”
He paused, tilting his head with an expectant look on his face. “What do you say, cupcake?”
Well, I officially felt like throwing up right now.
I glanced at Lyra who groaned in pain on the ground, struggling to get up.
Out of anger, I kicked her in the face, forcing her to plop to the ground like a rag doll.

Satisfied with that, I raised my head and gazed directly at Delta Asher. “I think you’re an insufferable waste of space who’s trying to prove that he’s not a waste of space by orchestrating this whole thing to impress his godfather.” I blurted.
The Delta’s expression changed into a scowl instantly, his eyes visibly twitching even from this distance.
But I didn’t stop reading him to filth. “You’ve been so useless as the Delta that now you want to prove your worth as an Alpha. But then, what happens if the pack ends up not being happy with your rule? What happens when this pack falls into chaos under your rule?”
Delta Asher couldn’t take it anymore and finally snapped, revealing his right hand which had been behind his back all this time.
My eyes widened in surprise.
He held a pistol in that hand.
“You think you’re so smart, huh?” He hissed, pointing the gun at me. “Well, watch me paint this hall with your brain matter.”
Oh no…
My body tensed as I braced myself, hoping that I would be fast enough to dodge a gunshot.
And then it happened.
The air rang with a bang and time seemed to slow down as the bullet whooshed toward me.
I didn’t know what the hell I was doing but managed to duck to my left, barely avoiding getting shot.
Unfortunately, the Delta didn’t stop with his assault and began firing bullets in my direction, forcing me to fall to the ground and crawl around, trying to avoid getting shot.
“Yeah, crawl around like the pathetic piece of trash that you are.” He mocked, forcing me to glance at him from where I hid behind a table.
He spotted me and seemed like he was about to shoot when all the lights in the hall suddenly turned off, taking him by surprise.
Even the colorful fairy lights that decorated the walls turned off, leaving the hall in total darkness.
“That’s my cue,” I muttered to myself as I jumped out of my hiding spot and rushed toward the exit.
Forget about fighting the Delta.
I need to get to Kaene… Fast!
