Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 124
Chapter 124: _The Alpha Must Die
Negan
~~
After I met with Kaene, I paid Phoebe a little visit to her suite.
I was able to meet with her family, including her father who seemed rather overprotective and judgmental.
Anyway, I made sure to give her a little heads-up about what was coming.
I knew the Delta and his accomplices were going to make a move soon.
And if they were half as smart as an average werewolf, they might go after the Alpha’s Luna as well to avoid any loose ends.
I couldn’t care less if Kaene died… That’s the main part of my mission in this pack after all.
However, Phoebe couldn’t die… Not yet, at least, and definitely not by the hands of those morons.
“I’m not done playing with that fierce little bird,” I remarked from where I stood on my balcony, taking a sip from the drink in my hand.
It was nighttime already, and the moon hung in the starry sky in its half phase.
I stared at the celestial object, my lips curling into a wicked grin. “You see, moon goddess? I don’t even have to raise a finger to kill your precious Alpha. Your werewolves— your children, are already bringing themselves to ruin with their own hands.”
I chuckled to myself, sighing with satisfaction as I took another sip from my drink.
However, before I could enjoy the aftertaste of my drink, I felt a presence behind me, forcing me to roll my eyes.
“I hope you’re here with news, Rowland. I don’t have time for meaningless banter.” I blurted plainly, my grip on the handrail of the balcony tightening a bit.
Rowland whistled, stepping closer to me until he stood beside me. “What’s got you all worked up? Shouldn’t we be excited that the Alpha is finally going to be killed tonight?” He said with a cheery tone.
But I merely glanced at him before shaking my head. “That’s if they don’t mess up the job. Killing an Alpha is no easy task. Let’s not forget that the Maverick bloodline is one of the most powerful in the world.”
That’s another reason why killing Kaene was something I couldn’t accomplish with brute force alone.
I needed to be calculative and cautious, ensuring that I placed the right pieces of the chess to lead to his demise.
Everything I’ve been doing in the shadows was calculated to lead to someone finally wanting to kill the Alpha.
Delta Asher just happened to be an easy pawn for that task.
“Oh, trust me. I don’t think even Kaene would be able to survive this.” Rowland sounded even more excited as he brought out a small vial with a peculiar-looking plant in it.
I dimmed my eyes, grabbed the vial, and scrutinized the small plant inside.
It had purple flowers and a thin stem.
My eyes lit up with surprise. “Wolfsbane.”
I turned my gaze to Rowland who seemed even more giddy. “Where did you get this?” I asked.
He sighed, leaning against the railing of the balcony. “Why, from the Alpha’s assistant. I happened to find myself in her room to get a look at some… Goods.”
I arched an eyebrow when I saw the lust in his eyes.
Ugh, pervert.
“Anyway, as I spied on her, I saw her grounding this to a powder that she kept in a vial like this one before walking out. I got curious and decided to bring some samples.” Rowland shrugged.

Wolfsbane…
It was a toxic plant to almost every creature, used by Hunters throughout the centuries to kill werewolves.
What the heck was she doing with such a plant? If she was using it to hurt Kaene, how was she sending it into his body?
My mind raced with so many possibilities until I settled on one.
A mischievous smirk curled up my lips just then as I laughed, holding onto my stomach as I did.
“Well, well, well. What do you know?” I muttered playing around with the vial. “Now it all makes sense. The tea.”
Now that I thought about it, it was pretty easy for her to put little doses of wolfsbane in anything the Alpha ingests.
But the easiest way for her would be the special tea she usually collected for Catherine to give Kaene.
“Well, I guess Kaene isn’t going to survive this after all,” I mumbled, handing the wolfsbane back to Rowland. “That explains why Kaene has been looking like he’s losing his mind recently. The plant is messing with his mind. At this point, his wolf should be weakened to the level of an Omega.”
How ironic.
My body shuddered with glee as I envisioned Kaene’s struggle once his killer landed the blow on him.
“Too bad, it seems the Alpha’s assistant also wants to give the drug to Phoebe and her family.” Rowland blurted all of a sudden before casually grabbing my drink from my hands. “At least, that’ll be killing two birds with one stone, right?”
I paused, my eyes widening as I slowly turned my gaze to Rowland. “Come again?”
He grinned, taking the rest of the drink in one gulp before he continued. “Yeah, I forgot to mention. Lyra led Phoebe to the event Hall where she and Kaene will have a dinner date. It’ll be easier for the cunning assistant to drug their food and drinks with the wolfsbane. At least, that’s what I’d–”
Before he could finish his statement, I rushed to him and grabbed him by the collar with my right hand, lifting him off the ground.
Rowland’s face contorted with fear as he stared at me with confusion in his eyes. “W– What are you doing? Did I say something w–”
“Why didn’t you tell me this sooner?” I asked sternly.
The main question here should be: why am having this reaction? I knew Phoebe could get killed as well anyway.
Well, that’s quite simple.
Someone like Phoebe didn’t deserve a slow death by Wolfsbane. Unlike Kaene, she’s an easy target.
Taking her out slowly with Wolfsbane would be overkill.
I grunted, dropping Rowland to the ground.
The lights in my residence and beyond, stretching across the entire estate flickered before turning off completely, leaving the moon as the only source of light.
Oh, the Delta and his accomplices better hope they’re able to kill Kaene tonight.
If not, I’ll make sure they all go through the same pain they wished on Phoebe— but tenfold.
