Chapter 139: _Death Couldn’t Separate Us

My face heated with a blush as I looked away from him, trying to avoid his gaze.

“Shut up. I only wanted your scent on me.” I grumbled, folding my arms in front of my chest.

However, Kaene was still amused, chuckling loudly and placing his hand on his forehead.

Gosh, what was I thinking of spraying his cologne on my body?

“Well, that’s a first.” He muttered, bringing his face closer to mine and ignoring the fact that we were in the hallway.

Any maid who walked by would see us.

“What’s a first? Me telling you to shut up or me putting on your cologne?” I asked, my body shuddering a bit when his breath fell on my neck.

We’d been intimate merely some minutes back but my body still craved him.

My wolf, in particular, howled in response to our mate’s proximity, urging me to reach out and touch his face.

But I held myself back.

“Both.” Kaene suddenly responded, moving close to me until my back was against a pillar in the hallway.

I gasped a bit, my lips parting and my chest rising and falling as my breathing increased.

“What’s… What’re you doing?” I asked, gulping down a huge chunk of saliva.

But Kaene didn’t stop, placing his fingers on my chin and bringing my gaze to meet his piercing eyes that seemed like they were boring into my soul.

He tilted his head slightly, his lips curling up into a smirk before he whispered. “You know, any time you ask a question like that, I wonder if our moments of passion are so intense that I unknowingly fuck out your memories momentarily.”

Oh my gosh. There’s no way he just said THAT.

I knew Kaene was vulgar… He’s always been so direct with his words and what he wanted.

But it’s been so long since I saw this side of him. I liked it. I missed it.

The affair really took a lot of things away from us.

Remembering that, my gaze lowered and my shoulders slouched enough for Kaene to notice that something was wrong.

“We still don’t know why Brittany lied about fabricating the video of Negan and me,” I muttered, fiddling with my fingers and avoiding Kaene’s gaze.

It seemed the mention of ‘me and Negan’ turned him off from whatever it was he was doing, causing him to withdraw his hand from my chin.

I paused, raising my head and staring at his face.

His eyes were now looking away from me, looking distant.

My heart dropped just then. Me and my big mouth!

“All the elites heard my confession the other night.” I continued, placing my hand on his chest and still looking away. “The simple folk of the pack might buy Brittany’s confession, but the elites wouldn’t. I think the Alpha Council members were just trying to be respectful to me.”

Well, all of them except the Delta anyway.

I felt ashamed of myself every day, but I also found peace in the fact that it wasn’t my fault. At least, not entirely.

Suddenly, Kaene placed his hand on my shoulder, forcing me to bring my gaze to his face again.

“I don’t care what the elites think.” He blurted, his eyes radiating with warmth. “I already told them the consequences if I find out any of them are talking about it. Elsa was just lucky.”

Right… That bitch.

I sighed, shifting my gaze briefly away from him. “And you think you weren’t being too lenient with her? You didn’t seem to show me as much grace when–”

“Really?” He interrupted, arching an eyebrow.

My face heated up with a blush but I remained silent, subconsciously drumming my fingers on his chest.

“Mi Esposa Caliente…” he muttered just then, using his right hand to caress my face while using his other hand to wrap around my wrist. “I’ve forgiven you and I’m ready to move past it. I’m ready to give us a thousand chances. Not even death could separate us, so I doubt the judgment of some stuck-up nobles will.”

The smile on my face widened as I placed both my hands on either side of his shoulders.

“Look who’s talking about ‘stuck-up nobles’.” I teased, smirking slyly.

Kaene’s eyebrows furrowed into a frown at first before he gasped dramatically, placing his hand in front of his mouth.

I couldn’t help myself anymore and giggled, raising my head and staring at the ceiling as I did.

Meanwhile, Kaene kept himself busy, bringing his hands to my waist and pulling me closer to his body.

My laughter stopped abruptly as I found myself staring into his eyes again.

“I love you,” I whispered all of a sudden, my face already becoming tense from all the smiling. “I can’t believe we’ve come so far already. I remember when you promised me that our union would be loveless and yet here we–”

Before I could say anything else, Kaene shut me up by planting a kiss on my lips, catching me by surprise and taking me off guard.

I wrapped my arms around his neck, using my fingers to twirl around his hair while he tightened his grip on my waist, pulling me even closer to his body until I felt like I was going to melt into him.

Just when things were getting heated and his hands went to my thighs, I picked up the sound of approaching footsteps and quickly pulled away from him.

Our gazes landed on a maid who had her gaze lowered at the other end of the hallway as she walked toward us.

“G– Good morning, Alpha. Good morning, Luna.” The maid bowed to the two of us when she walked past us, trying her best to avoid our gazes and to not seem awkward by what she just witnessed.

When she was out of sight, I turned to Kaene and poked him on his nose. “We should go eat breakfast before we reach a point of no return,” I suggested.

He groaned dramatically, inching his face close to mine. “What if I want to reach that point and even cross it?” He drawled.

I rolled my eyes, shifting away from him and the pillar behind me. “I’m hungry, Kaene, please.”

However, just as I began walking, he smacked me on my ass, taking me by surprise as the sound echoed around the hallway.

“Kaene!” I gasped, pouting as my face swelled with a blush.

But he merely grinned, grabbing my hand and leading me to the dining room downstairs.
