Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 140
Chapter 140: _Getting Used To It
When we finally got to the dining room, I saw a sight that would’ve seemed foreign a month ago.
My family were all sitting there, with my mother seemingly discussing with Catherine.
CATHERINE of all people.
My mouth fell in surprise as Kaene led me to the dining table, glancing at me and giving me a wink before he sat on his chair at the end of the table.
I ended up sitting on the chair to his right, glancing at him briefly, still not able to believe that things could be so peaceful between us.
“Took you long enough.” Caleb, who was sitting at the opposite side of the table, blurted, staring at me with a knowing look in his eyes. “For a second there, I thought you went missing or something.”
I knew what he was trying to insinuate, especially with that smirk on his face.
Luckily, Kaene didn’t seem to notice and immediately went to eat the food in front of him.
It seemed he’d been hungry as well, probably waiting for me all this while.
“Goddess, Phoebe, your mother is hilarious.” Catherine suddenly uttered from the other end of the table where she sat close to my mom and Dad.
She had a wide smile on her face that didn’t seem fake at all.
As for my mother and father… Well, they didn’t seem to care as much. My mother still seemed to be hesitant with the way she interacted with Kaene’s mother but hid it behind a smile.
“Oh, stop it with the flattering, Madame Catherine. You’re quite the interesting character yourself.” My mother remarked, not exactly complimenting her and not being rude either.
I knew she probably still felt weird knowing that this woman had locked her son up in the dungeons AFTER slapping him in public.
But it seemed she was acting cool… For me probably.
“Your mother and Madame Catherine were just talking about the event that Alpha Kaene has planned.” My father chimed in just then, trying to keep me in the loop.
I nodded, my gaze going from my mother to Kaene’s mother.
At least, they were getting along. I still remember their first meeting… That did not end well.
Wait, Kaene was already discussing the event we planned with the Alpha Council with everyone else?
“Before you ask, yes, I’ve already begun making plans for the event.” Kaene suddenly spoke up as if he were reading my mind, glancing at me as he chowed down a juicy piece of watermelon.
He dimmed his eyes, scrutinizing my face closely before he whispered. “Why aren’t you eating? Shocked by my mother and your’s getting along?”
I sighed softly, bringing my gaze to the food in front of me, grabbing a fork and picking up a piece of Cinnamon Roll churro before dipping it in a small bowl of chocolate.
After taking a bite from it and letting its sweetness melt in my mouth, I turned my gaze to Kaene. “I mean, I’m happy they’re getting along but it feels so weird,” I mumbled.
He sniggered softly, grabbing a glass of wine and taking a sip. “Well, at least it’s a good development. I’d prefer this than to watch them constantly arguing over meaningless things. Also, I haven’t seen my mother this calm in years.” He remarked.
I opened my mouth to say something when Kaene’s mother forced a cough, forcing us to turn our gazes to her.
“You two know we can hear you, right? Werewolf ears and all.” She said with a smirk, glancing at my parents.
The three of them chuckled, leaving Kaene and I to gawk at them without uttering a word.
This is going to take a while to get used to…

When it was finally nighttime, I sat alone in my suite, brushing my hair with a hairbrush.
Instead of sleeping in my suite, my family had been given their own rooms in the mansion, giving me privacy.
As I stared at my reflection, I couldn’t help but remember when someone else used to do this for me.
Miranda.
We started with a rough start, but I soon started warming up to her and I could’ve sworn she felt the same way about me.
She became the closest thing I had to a friend.
I sighed, dropping the hairbrush weakly while still staring at my reflection.
“I promise we’ll find the sick monster who killed you, Miranda,” I muttered, hoping she’d be able to hear me wherever she was.
However, as I stared at the mirror, my gaze becoming unfocused, I noticed a dark figure moving in the corner of the mirror.
I gasped, my heart jumping into my throat as I swerved my head backward to see what or who it was.
To my surprise, I saw Negan standing there, watching me with a stoic expression on his face. It was unlike the usual smirk I always saw on his face.
He seemed distant now.
And speaking of people who I saw as the closest thing to a ‘friend’…
“Hi…” I whispered, getting up and placing my arms in front of my body.
However, my face soon heated up with a blush when I realized that I was wearing a blue nightgown that left half my cleavage exposed.
“Hi…” Negan whispered, his eyes trailing me with unknown emotions within.
My eyebrows furrowed into a frown as I noticed the odd way he stared at me.
What was he doing here in my room at nine in the evening anyway?
“Negan, listen.” I shook my head, snapping out of my thoughts and raising my hands. “I don’t think I appreciate your unannounced visits. Kaene is still healing both from his physical wounds and the emotional ones from the affair. I don’t want him to have any reason to suspect–”
Before I could complete my statement, a knock came on the door, causing a cold shiver to run down my spine as my body tensed up.
“Mi Amor? I’m coming in,” Kaene announced from the other side of the door with his deep baritone voice.
Shit!
