Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 155
Chapter 155: _Unnecessary Drama
After having a bath together, Kaene and I finally went downstairs for breakfast.
However, I was not expecting the guest waiting at the dining table when we got downstairs.
“Negan…” I muttered, my eyes fluttering awkwardly.
He was sitting close to Caleb, who was sitting across the table from where my parents were sitting.
He turned his gaze to me, a smirk curling up his lips. “Phoebe, how’re you doing now? You seem rather refreshed.” He remarked.
My face heated up with a blush. He definitely knew what he was doing.
Gosh, why did he have to be so teasing?
At the end of the dining table, Catherine was sitting with a despondent expression on her face. She tried avoiding my gaze, placing all her focus on her food.
This was a huge contrast compared to yesterday.
“Negan, I’m glad you could make it.” Kaene suddenly blurted, ending the sudden silence that came in and stepping forward.
He sat at the head of the table, his back facing me until he swerved to look at me, arching an eyebrow.
“Come on, my love. You must be starving.” He said with worry in his eyes.
I gulped, not knowing which was worse. Eating with Catherine on the table, or eating with Negan on the table.
Either option was so fucking awkward, I felt like I was about to suffocate from the pressure.
Balling my hands into fists beside my body, I cleared my throat before also stepping forward and sitting on the chair on Kaene’s right side.
He shot me a knowing smile before turning his gaze back to his food.
It was clear that he invited the Beta for breakfast. The question is: Why?
“Don’t tell me you’re doing what I think you’re trying to do?” I whispered to Kaene, glancing at Catherine and then at Negan.
Gosh, he couldn’t be trying to tell everyone about what his mother did, right?
I didn’t want any unnecessary drama so early in the morning. Not while I was still trying to recover from the mental mark seeing those dead bodies in the garden gave me.
Kaene dimmed his eyes, seeming oblivious. “What do you think I’m trying to do? Negan is my best friend, after all. What’s wrong with inviting him for breakfast?” He whispered back to me.
At this point, I could feel the curious stares from my parents.
They were definitely lost on what was happening and probably clueless about why Catherine was keeping her distance.
“You can’t tell Negan about what your mother did,” I whispered with a strained voice, clutching a fork in front of me tightly. “What if things get heated? I don’t want any drama.”
Suddenly, my brother coughed awkwardly from where he sat, causing me to jolt and fix my gaze on him.
“Pardon me, Luna Phoebe, but do you and the Alpha need some alone time?” He asked ever so innocently.
But I could see the mischievous glint behind his eyes.
I ground my jaw, pouting my lips before forcing a smile on my face. “Everything is fine, Caleb.”
I glanced at Negan who had a mischievous smirk on his face as he played around with a salad in front of him.

My mother and father remained silent, staring at me awkwardly and with worry in their eyes.
“Is everything alright, dear? Beta Negan told us you witnessed something disturbing this morning but refused to give us details.” My mother blurted, wrapping her hands in front of herself.
I parted my lips, blinking speechlessly at Negan.
“Negan!” Kaene and I ended up blurting simultaneously, both left speechless at his actions.
His mouth was full as he shrugged. “What? They were curious and worried about why you two had to leave so early without coming down for breakfast. And it’s not like I gave them any details.” He defended himself.
I glanced at Kaene before sighing to myself.
Suddenly, as if that wasn’t enough, Negan turned his gaze to Catherine with a seemingly innocent smile on his face. “Aunt Catherine, you’ve been so quiet. Is anything wrong?” He asked.
Dear goddess, have mercy!
I knew this would be a bad idea.
“I’m fine, Beta Negan,” Catherine said plainly, plastering a smile on her face.
She placed her focus back on her food but alas, it seemed Negan was particularly bored today.
“I still wonder if our killer is responsible for the poisoning at the Luna Ball.” He remarked, twirling a spoon around his fingers.
My brother, who was sitting beside him, was the first to speak. “Killer? What are you talking about?”
What the heck was Negan doing?!
“Nah, you don’t want to know kid.” Negan patted my brother on his head, causing the latter to furrow his eyebrows.
“I’m turning eighteen in a few months.” He mumbled.
Just then, my mother cleared her throat, fixing her gaze on Catherine. “Madam Catherine, remember we were still trying to decide what to wear for the winter wedding? I saw this design on the internet that I’m sure you and the family’s designer will LOVE.” She said excitedly.
There was an awkward silence after that; the only sound that could be heard was the clanging of spoons and forks against plates.
The tension was palpable, forcing me to grab a bottle of wine.
A maid standing nearby scurried forward, trying to help me pour the content into a glass, but I waved my hand dismissively, pouring the wine by myself.
After doing that, I downed most of the wine in one gulp, sighing heavily soon after.
“I have a confession to make,” Catherine uttered all of a sudden, biting her lips with a bitter look in her eyes.
Everyone paused what they were doing and glanced at her, the dining room becoming eerily quiet.
Kaene coughed just then, turning his gaze to the few maids present. “You all should excuse us.” He ordered with a calm tone.
The maids bowed and quickly left the dining room, giving us much-needed privacy.
However, before Catherine could say anything else, Negan chuckled softly.
“There’s no need. I know you’re the one who drugged Phoebe and me that night.”
A collective gasp escaped the mouths of everyone present.
