Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 157
Chapter 157: _The Plan Must Work
*A week later*
After much planning and anticipation, the day of the winter wedding finally arrived.
At this point, Kaene had fully recovered, back to his former self.
Watching him go back to his normal self, without any strains was a relief.
Anyway, the pack had been informed of the wedding and would all be in attendance.
There would even be a few delegates from other packs attending the grand event.
Little did any of them know that the wedding was a cover for a secret operation to fish out the culprit behind most of the tragedies in the pack.
“What if it doesn’t work out?” I blurted out to Caleb, who stood behind me, clicking on his phone as a few maids handled my hair and makeup.
He raised his head, arching an eyebrow before he spoke. “Uh… What if what doesn’t work out?”
He wore a black suit and looked dashing.
He was aware of our plan to fish out the culprit but didn’t know the details of each murder case.
We couldn’t afford to let news of what was happening behind the scenes of the wedding spread out.
Besides, I only told him because I had no one else to talk to about it apart from Kaene and Negan who were in the other part of the mansion.
“The plan, Caleb,” I responded to his last question with a sigh, staring at my reflection in the mirror.
I got a bit lost staring at myself before I continued. “What if ‘you know who’ doesn’t come out? What if we do all this and it goes to waste?”
There was a tense silence after my question and it seemed the maids noticed something was wrong but remained silent.
I glanced at them, waving my hand dismissively. “You all can leave. I can handle the rest.” I said confidently while still staring at my face.
There wasn’t much left to add to the makeup anyway. I didn’t find it necessary.
Anyway, the maids nodded their heads before bowing and scurrying out of the suite, locking the door behind them.
It was early in the afternoon and the sunlight from outside trickled through the windows, illuminating the suite more than usual.
Apart from that, it was also snowing outside. Everything was right out of a fairytale.
It was all supposed to be perfect.
But unfortunately, I couldn’t let myself relax because of the threat looming over our heads.
“Alright, run that over to me again,” Caleb muttered, sliding his phone into his pocket and stepping forward.
He placed a hand on my shoulder, a smile curling up his lips. “How can you be so stressed on such a special day? You and Kaene can finally be husband and wife in every sense. You’re taking things to the next level and the pack will acknowledge you as their Luna.” He gushed.
How comforting…
“But at what cost?” I swerved my head to him, dimming my eyes. “So many people have died and we still can’t find the killer.”
Gosh, I shouldn’t be discussing this with him.
Sighing to myself with frustration, I got up, parting some strands of my hair aside.
My hair was let to flow down while some parts were done to make two tresses that fell over both sides of my chest.

I wore a beautiful white corset wedding gown with lace embroidery at the chest that also came along with two white lace gloves.
To top it off, I wore two blue moon earrings, which reflected the light from the sun, as well as a beautiful necklace with blue gemstones.
“Even if you can’t find the killer today, at least, can you just try to enjoy your wedding day?” My brother pleaded, fluttering his eyelids playfully. “I mean, look at yourself, sis! Come on, would we have ever imagined months ago that you’d be getting married to the Alpha of all people? The same arrogant bum that we always gossiped about at those lavish events.”
My face heated up with a blush when I remembered.
Gosh, I’d hated Kaene so much back then, even though we hadn’t met yet.
There was just something about the way he carried himself, not to mention he represented the corrupt pack hierarchy and everything wrong with it.
Anyway, I sighed, fiddling with my fingers nervously. “Well, I appreciate your comforting words, Caleb. But that plan must work today. If this pack wants to be assured of its safety, that is.”
With that, I used my right hand to raise part of my gown while Caleb led the way, opening the door for me as we stepped out.

Once we got out of the mansion, I met my parents waiting for me under the snow with smiles on their faces.
I smiled as well… Until I spotted Catherine standing behind them with a wry smile on her face.
Dear goddess…
“Oh, my goodness! You look so beautiful.” My mother nearly squealed, walking up to me and wrapping her arms around me.
I reciprocated her hug, allowing myself to relax a bit under her embrace.
After a while, she pulled away, pinching my cheeks playfully. “Oh, my little girl is all grown up. Kaene will have his breath taken away when he sees you.” She teased.
I rolled my eyes, my face heating up with a blush. “Thank you, mom. But honestly, you look so good as well.” I remarked, taking a step back and scrutinizing her properly.
She wore a blue mermaid dress and had her hair tied back in a bun.
Kaene spared no expenses.
“Hey, what about me?” My father asked with a teasing voice.
I smiled and hugged him as well, feeling most of the tension leave my chest.
“I’m so glad you guys can be here today,” I said with a low tone, sniffling a bit.
Gosh, I couldn’t lose these people.
Anyway, after our little family moment, I finally fixed my gaze on Catherine who smiled at me.
“In case you’re wondering why I’m here, I’m no longer a ‘former Luna’. I can no longer be a part of the Alpha’s entourage.” She said with acceptance in her voice. “But, he’s waiting for you. The event hall is already packed with all the guests.”
It’s now or never.
After drawing in a deep breath and nodding my head at her, we stepped out of the compound, heading toward the event hall.
