Chapter 158: _Nothing Suspicious… Yet
When we finally got to the entrance to the event hall, I subconsciously tensed up.
This was the same building where the Delta and Lyra had me cornered the other night.
It was also where they allegedly killed themselves.
Would it be bad luck to organize the wedding here?
Well… It was too late to think about that now.
The event hall was filled with people.
Werewolves of all ages and social classes were present, the lower class wolves sitting behind a red ribbon at both sides of the hall and the elites sitting at high tables close to the makeshift stage.
Standing on top of the stage were Elder Gita, Kaene, and Negan, who stood beside him as the best man.
When I noticed how the hall became silent and the way everyone turned their gazes to me, I gulped.
My father held my hand just then, forcing me to turn my gaze to him.
He had a warm smile on his face, giving me a reassuring nod as he led me to the altar.
When I finally climbed the stairs and stood in front of Kaene, my stomach danced with butterflies.
Gosh, I was so nervous.
But while I was nervous, Kaene stood there with a slight smirk on his face. He didn’t make his excitement noticeable for whatever reason, but his eyes couldn’t lie.
Anyway, after my father stepped down from the stage and joined my family at their assigned seats, Elder Gita cleared her throat.
However, before she began, I could pick up the murmured words of several people around the hall.
“So, they’re finally getting married the human way?”
“What’s the point? If I were the Luna, I would’ve fled the pack with all the drama surrounding her.” A female voice said with a scoff.
“But she looks so dreamy.”
“And happy too. That maid who tried to frame her with that photoshopped video deserves a spot in hell. I wonder what happened to her.”
If only they knew…
Or wait… They could know the truth. After all, Kaene and I did plan to make some things clear to all of them.
Anyway, Elder Gita finally spoke up with a loud voice that boomed around the hall. “We are gathered here today to observe the union of Alpha Kaene Maverick and Luna Phoebe Skywalker!”
Everyone became silent instantly, focusing on the spectacle happening on stage.
I was flustered but composed myself, focusing on Kaene.
Meanwhile, I glanced at a corner of the hall where I spotted the Gamma communicating with someone on a wireless headphone, his face seeming relaxed.
I guess that meant there were no signs of anything suspicious.
Anyway, the wedding went on with Elder Gita making a small speech before telling us to say our vows.
After all was said and done, it was time for us to exchange rings.
Negan did the honors, a smile curling up his lips as he handed the rings to Kaene and me.

Kaene took the ring meant for me off his best friend’s hands, fixing his gaze on me with a warm smile on his face.
“Mi Esposa Caliente.” He muttered in a soft voice. “Things started rocky between us. We had our down times and we argued… A lot.”
Some people in the audience chuckled, causing me to blush.
I fluttered my eyelids as I stared at him, wishing more than anything that I could reach out and caress his face.
But I had to wait until the ceremony was over.
Anyway, after silence came to the hall again, Kaene continued. “I know, I’ve not been the best mate to you. I know I’ve remained complicit and silent while you went through all sorts of bullying simply because of your social status.”
At this point, my eyes became heavy with tears which I tried hard to hold back.
I resorted to using the back of my hand to clean my eyes, causing a few people in the audience to murmur.
“I promised you on the night of the moon’s Chosen ceremony that our union would be a loveless one.” He muttered, taking a step forward. “Now, I want to promise you that our union will be one filled with love. You are my heart. My mate, sent to me by the goddess herself. And I love you with all my being.”
My heart seemed to stop for a second when I heard those words. I never knew Kaene was so good with words.
Well, outside our activities in the bedroom, of course.
Just then, Elder Gita coughed, causing us to glance at her.
Kaene smiled, placing the ring on my index finger and caressing my hands in his.
“By the power vested on me by the Moon goddess, I pronounce you husband and wife and one before the presence of our pack.” Elder Gita said with a warm expression on her face, gesturing at Kaene and me.
Well, that’s our cue.
Without further ado, we stepped forward and kissed, Kaene placing his hands on my waist while I placed mine on his shoulders.
The hall erupted with cheers and joyful claps, even after we pulled out of the kiss.
We stood there, smiling at each other, our breathing in sync.
“You should tell me more of those sweet words more often.” I teased, poking him in his nose.
He shook his head, leaning closer and whispering into my ears. “Oh, I promise to do that as many times as you want tonight.”
Pervert…
Suddenly, just when the clapping and cheering began to die down, Catherine ascended the stage.
I thought she was going to come to hug us at first but was stunned when she grabbed a microphone instead, clearing her throat.
“In the spirit of this beautiful wedding, I’d like to make a little confession.” She spoke with a solemn tone, glancing at Kaene and me.
We both glanced at ourselves as well, not knowing what to say or do. We did want to come clean to the pack about some things anyway.
“First off, I no longer carry the title of ‘former Luna’. I’m just the Alpha’s mother.” She announced, causing several people to murmur amongst themselves.
I felt bad for her, but I also saw it as necessary. This was minuscule compared to the humiliations I faced first at the moon’s Chosen ceremony and then at the masquerade party in front of the elites.
However, before Catherine could continue, she gasped, the microphone dropping from her hand.
My eyebrows furrowed into a frown as everyone suddenly began screaming or gasping in shock.
Catherine slowly swerved to face Kaene and me, and it was then that we realized the cause of the commotion.
My heart dropped, a cold shiver running down my spine.
There was an arrow sticking on her chest.
