Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 164
Chapter 164: _You Owe Me Nothing
(Warning: Violence and Gore ahead. Not too graphic)
The ground outside was covered with a thin layer of snow.
However, it was slowly getting stained by the blood of fallen werewolves.
Many of them who had successfully left the event Hall shifted into their wolves, either trying to flee out of the estate or joining the pack soldiers to fight against the Hunters.
The Hunters all wore black attires and positioned themselves at strategic spots where they either threw bombs or silver arrows.
I was able to notice this within a few seconds of arriving at the battlefield.
‘First things first… I need to see if I can save some of my people.’ I thought to myself, my gaze landing on a group of wolves.
They seemed like a family, consisting of a mother and father who shifted and a girl and two boys under eighteen.
The children obviously couldn’t shift and hence, were more vulnerable.
Just then, I noticed three Hunters stealthily approaching the family.
They held guns and silver daggers in their hands, with masks on their faces and murderous intent in their eyes.
One of them successfully shot the mother in the family on her shoulder, causing her to whimper in pain and fall to the ground.
“Mom!” The daughter yelled out while holding her little brothers close to herself.
She probably had a year or two before she turned eighteen, and had the fierceness of a wolf in her eyes.
But unfortunately, she was defenseless.
Gritting my teeth, I sprinted at the family, baring my fangs at the Hunters.
They spotted me but before they could react, I lunged at one, sinking my fangs into his shoulder and bringing him to the ground.
“Ahh! Get off me, you mutt!” The Hunter screamed out in pain, but I wasn’t satisfied.
I ground my teeth against his bones, making sure blood poured out in abundance before pulling.
“Ahhh!” The Hunter released a blood-curdling scream as I cut off his arm, his crimson human blood splashing on my face and staining the white snow on the ground.
But I showed no mercy, using my claws to slash his throat, instantly killing him.
“Kill the vermin!” One of the other Hunters yelled out, pointing a gun at me.
But I merely snarled before lunging at him, while the father of the family stood in front of his children, trying to shield them while also gently dragging his wife closer to himself.
A gunshot fired in the air but I dodged it, swiping my right paw at the Hunter’s gun.
The gun flung out of his hand, disorienting him slightly and causing him to stumble backward.
Before he could make any moves, I slashed his head clean off his neck, the warm blood on my fur acting as a fuel of sorts that urged my instincts to do two things and two things only.
Kill every threat and protect my pack.
“Bloody hell.” The last Hunter tried shooting me as well but I lunged at him, first slashing his right leg.
He shouted in pain, holding the spot I slashed and stumbling backward, his face getting pale with fear.
Blood trickled out of the fresh wound I made on his right leg but I wasn’t satisfied, slashing his chest.

However, to my surprise and annoyance, the protective vest on his chest was laced with silver, causing my claws to burn with a stinging pain that caused me to growl in pain.
‘Bastard!’ I thought to myself, glaring at the human who tried limping away.
However, before I could make a move, a huge bipedal wolf lunged at him, grabbing him and ripping him in half from his waist.
His entrails and blood splattered all over the place, but he didn’t make any sound and died instantly.
I glanced at the bipedal wolf, a Lycan, and instantly knew who it was.
“Lycan Davos.” I blurted as I slowly shifted back into my human form.
The magic associated with transformation allowed my clothes to remain intact, but just like my wolf fur, it was stained with blood.
Apart from that, the fingernails of my right hand were peeled off almost completely, and blood trickled from my fingers.
I gritted my teeth, ignoring the pain as Lycan Davos also shifted into his human form. “Alpha, I’m so glad you could make it out of there alive. Gamma Thane and I have been holding the forte out here. We tried helping some of our people escape out of the Estate, but the Hunters have us surrounded.”
He paused, lowering his gaze and balling his hands into fists. “So many of our people are already dead. The attack… The attack came so suddenly, and–”
“We have to preserve the lives of those we can and regroup.” I interrupted him, already getting a headache thinking about all the loss.
The smell of blood and death of both wolves and humans filled the air, and the Estate was filled with sounds of explosions, howls, and cries of pain from all corners.
“The safest spot in the estate right now is Elder Gita’s residence,” I stated calmly, turning my gaze to the family standing behind me.
They were huddled together, the father shifting back into his human form and trying to nurse his wife’s wound.
It was a silver bullet, causing her to forcefully revert to her human form and limiting the natural healing of her wolf.
“You’ll be fine, okay?” The father tried reassuring his wife, tearing a piece of his shirt and using it to apply pressure to the wound on her shoulder.
I felt a pang of guilt seeing the scene, staring at them quietly.
Just then, the daughter stood up, bowing to me. “T– Thank you for saving us, Alpha. Is… Is there any way I can help?” She asked innocently.
Her father raised his head, staring at me with hesitation before also bowing slightly. “We owe you our lives, sir.”
I closed my eyes, sighing slightly before I spoke. “You owe me nothing but an assurance that you’ll try your hardest to survive. Help your wife up and take her to Elder Gita’s residence.”
Their eyes shone with even more gratitude but I swerved my body away from them, fixing my gaze on Lycan Davos. “Assign a few more pack soldiers to Elder Gita’s residence. The magic wards there should be enough to help them fend off the Hunters.”
The man nodded his understanding before gesturing at the family and assisting them to escape to safety.
We still had a long way to go…
