Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 168
Chapter 168: _Magnet For Bad Luck
I blinked at Negan, still shaken by the way he had just ruthlessly killed that Hunter without flinching
But Elder Gita didn’t seem to be bothered by the slightest as she stepped forward.
“Well, there are four witch covens within this city, so we could reach out to them and see if we can find this witch who helped the hunters.” She remarked thoughtfully.
Negan nodded but added. “Though, on second thought, witches and wolves haven’t been on good terms since forever.”
Are we werewolves really on good terms with any other race at this point?
“There’s also the possibility that the witch in question is a rogue.” Elder Gita said with widened eyes. “Though witches and wolves aren’t on good terms, a witch wouldn’t want to tarnish the reputation of their coven and risk war with us by aiding the Hunters.”
War?
Are they casually talking about war right now? Despite all the chaos happening outside?
I shook my head, using my fingers to gently rub my forehead. “How are we going to begin searching for this mystery witch? Where do we even start?” I lamented.
I stepped away from them, sitting on a chair nearby and sighing heavily. “Why do bad things seem to follow me everywhere?” I asked myself.
My chest tightened when I remembered that my family was still out there and I still hadn’t found them.
What if they were dead by now? Could I even live with that possibility?
“Hey.” Negan suddenly called me, placing his hand on my shoulder and slowly kneeling on the ground beside me.
“Everything’s going to be fine. You aren’t some bad luck magnet. Bad things have been happening in this pack before you became Luna. Corruption has always reigned in the hearts of wolves… The Delta is one example.”
Yeah… The Delta.
I guess Negan was right.
It seemed the Delta and the mysterious killer out there were all after one thing and would’ve carried out their plans despite my presence.
“We might not be able to find the witch at this rate.” Elder Gita mumbled solemnly just then, forcing me to swerve my head to her.
She lowered her gaze before turning back to the makeshift stage where Catherine’s body lay peacefully despite the chaos around her.
I had mixed feelings about her death… But she was still Kaene’s mother and seemed to be on the road to changing for the better.
She didn’t deserve death in my eyes.
“I’m acquainted with one of the coven’s in the city.” Elder Gita suddenly revealed, her tone sounding hopeful. “We haven’t gone out there yet but it’s obvious that we’re going to suffer a lot of losses from this. Losses that we might have to resort to magic to restore.”
My eyes widened as I blinked at the elderly woman, trying to grasp the implication of what she was saying.
“What? Are you saying you know witches who can bring back the dead?” Negan asked, getting up and fixing his gaze on Elder Gita.
However, she shook her head with a wry smile. “Not necessarily. I’ll explain later but right now… We have to fight off the Hunters.” She remarked.
Negan nodded before placing a hand on my shoulder. “And find your family. I haven’t forgotten about that.”
I smiled warmly, gazing at him with appreciation as I got up, dusting my hands on my already stained wedding dress before nodding as well. “Let’s go then. We can save any survivors we come across along the way.”
With that, the three of us ran toward the exit of the event hall, which was already empty by now apart from a few wolves here and there either trying to hide under tables or nurse wounds.
“You all, it isn’t safe here. Follow us out and head to my sanctuary!” Elder Gita announced with a loud voice before she slowly shifted into her wolf.
I gazed at her, my mouth opening wide in surprise.

Her wolf was large, with white flowy fur covered in blue streaks that looked ethereal.
The blue on her fur seemed to glow like moonlight and she held her staff in her mouth before sprinting out of the hall, followed by a group of about ten wolves.
I was about to shift and follow after her when I picked up the sound of crying in a corner.
My ears perked up curiously as I turned my gaze to a table in a corner, where I spotted two children hiding and crying.
I glanced at Negan who glanced at me as well, remaining silent.
I drew in a deep breath before cautiously stepping forward, trying my best to make myself seem approachable and friendly.
“Hey, guys.” I waved at them, stretching my hands to them when I got to them.
However, that’s when I noticed the horrid sight close to them.
A man and a woman lay beside the kids, arrows and bullet holes riddled all over their bodies.
They lay in a pool of their own blood and seemed like they’d risked everything to make sure their children were safe during the chaos.
My hands balled into fists as I struggled to hold back the tears behind my eyes.
I blinked, turning my gaze back to the children and stretching out my hands again. “Come on, let’s get you two out of here.” I blurted.
I grabbed them, carrying them away from the scene and placing their heads on my shoulders so they wouldn’t be able to see their parents’ lifeless bodies again.
“Their parents?” Negan asked, tilting his head.
When he saw the look I gave him, he sighed, instantly understanding.
“We’ll take them to Elder Gita’s sanctuary.” He said, turning his back to me and walking through the exit of the hall. “Come on, I’ll cover you.”
Without another word, I shifted into my wolf and carried the children on my back.
It’s been so long since I shifted into my wolf, but I was still used to her strong limbs and beautiful grey hair and was able to sprint with grace.
‘I’ll find you soon.’ I said in my head, thinking about my family again.
