Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 178
Chapter 178: _The Ancients
“Even if we do know a way to take you to the past or turn back the hands of time, why should we share it with you, Kaene Maverick?” Freya hissed, all the warmth she’d shown us dying in an instant like a flame under a snowstorm.
I ground my jaw, agitated by the way she referred to me without my title.
“It’s Alpha Kaene to you.” I blurted, keeping my tone calm. “And do you think the Hunter attack is going to end at Blue Moon pack? With that device in their hands, the Hunters can and WILL come for every other supernatural faction on this planet.”
The witches glanced among themselves, deep frowns appearing on their faces.
“So it’s true?” One of them asked, shaking her head. “A rogue witch out there created a device capable of deciphering the locations of other supernaturals. We aren’t safe here anymore.”
The women murmured, lamenting about the possibility of moving.
“We’ve been here before their country got its freedom, and yet they want to take away ours?”
“I have so many memories in this cottage.”
I glanced at Elder Gita who’d remained quiet all this while, letting me speak.
However, I waved my hand at her, signaling her to continue in my stead.
I was getting too riled up already.
“Sisters, if the witch who helped those hunters isn’t stopped, there will be nowhere safe on this planet for a supernatural being.” She said in a loud voice, staring at Freya for a bit before she continued. “This is what they want. To hunt us down like animals until we’re close to extinction.”
The air became tense as the witches stared at Elder Gita silently.
It seems her words were sinking into their heads. And the fact that they still weren’t rebutting the possibility of them knowing some kind of time travel meant that they actually did.
Just then, Freya glanced at her sisters, her eyes flashing with a distinct light.
I remained cautious, wondering what they were doing until Freya turned her gaze back to us.
“We weren’t lying when we said we don’t know about time travel.” She said calmly.
But no one said anything in response to that, instead waiting for whatever she had to say next.
“But, you know a way to accomplish such a miracle of magic, right?” Negan asked the question burning in all our heads.
Freya stared at the Beta briefly before she turned her back on us.
Her sisters followed her as well, all of them walking through the door at the back that they’d come out from.
However, just when I wanted to call them back, Freya’s voice rang from the other end of the door. “Follow us, wolves.”
Without another word, Elder Gita took the lead once again, following behind the witches.
The rest of us joined behind her, walking past the entrance and into a small dark hallway that led to a flight of stairs that led downstairs.
Wait… Downstairs? But this is the ground floor.
“Do not be afraid, Alpha Kaene. We don’t have any intention of hurting you if you don’t plan on hurting us.” Freya’s voice echoed from below, snapping me back to reality.
How was she able to guess that I was hesitant about coming down with them?
“Come on.” Phoebe wrapped her right arm around my left arm just then, forcing me to turn my gaze to her.
She had a wry smile on her face, urging me on.
With a sigh, I continued moving, my mate’s arm around mine.

“Over two millennia.” Freya blurted when we all came down to the dark room underground.
It had a stone floor, walls, and a ceiling that was lined with torches lighted up with blue flames.
The flames flickered, increasing in intensity and brightness at one point and then dimming drastically at others.
“Werewolves have over two millennia of history. Vampires came in around the same time. But witches?” Freya paused, standing in front of an elevated altar with stairs that led up to it.
I trailed my gaze to the altar where the statue of a woman with three heads, holding a key in her right hand stood tall.
“When humanity first discovered fire, they also stumbled upon witchcraft, giving rise to the first witches.” She narrated, her voice holding a hint of pride. “This knowledge was passed on but with the passing centuries, the core aspects of the original path changed. Drastically.”
Suddenly, one of the elders who’d followed us here, Sir Alan, scoffed. “We appreciate the history lessons, but what does any of this have to do with our original request?”
Freya stared at him, the blue flames on the wall increasing in brightness as she pointed at him. “The ancients. The first and the most powerful of witch kind who’ve lived to see every stage of human history. If you want to go back in time, you can go to them and make your request.”
My face lit up with a smile.
So time travel is a thing!
“Don’t get too excited though,” Freya spoke up again just then, the light of the blue flames illuminating the slight smirk that curled up the corner of her lips. “They’ve isolated themselves from the rest of the world and have lost touch with their humanity. Their power gives them the ability to see your true intentions, unfiltered.”
The room became tense as the words of the so-called green witch sunk in.
“They live in a forest that’s been sealed off with their control over space. It’s unreachable through normal means.” One of the other witches commented before they all formed a circle.
They connected hands, closing their eyes as the flames in the room decreased in intensity.
I could feel the power pulsating in the air, making my hair stand on end.
Suddenly, a tear appeared in front of our group, creating a portal with a blue light glowing at the edges.
I gawked at the portal with awe, especially when I saw what was on the other side.
It was a vast forest, unlike any I’ve ever seen.
“The forest of the ancients.” Freya gestured at the portal, her expression plain.
