Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 181
Chapter 181: _One Man Short
Kaene was successfully able to weaken the panther-like creature with the electricity glove, jumping off its head and landing on the ground.
He brought his gaze to me just then, our eyes meeting despite the chaos around us.
However, an enraged roar from the creature snapped me out of my brief trance, forcing me to fix my gaze on it again.
“My attack just now should’ve weakened it!” Kaene yelled out, glancing at me one last time before shifting into his wolf in the blink of an eye.
He howled, lunging at the creature which still dwarfed him in size.
Kaene’s wolf was the largest I’ve ever seen but this creature was still way larger.
The two fought, Kaene using his claws to slash at its vulnerable spots like its neck and eyes.
The creature roared even louder, using its paws to swipe violently at Kaene but missing each time.
Just then, Lycan Davos lunged at the creature in his Lycan form, ramming into it and sending it hurtling through the air until it crashed into a tree several meters away.
“Nice hit!” I yelled out, cheering them on.
My wolf was way weaker compared to theirs, especially now that it was still recovering from the wolfsbane poisoning from the Hunter attack.
I was actually surprised that Kaene had recovered enough to be able to transform mid-fight.
Anyway, Kaene and Lycan Davos sprinted at the creature, aiming to finish the job.
Suddenly, I heard a violent cough coming from behind me, forcing me to scan my gaze around before it landed on Negan.
I frowned, wondering what was wrong until he removed his right hand from his stomach, revealing a small spike sticking through it, his shirt soaked with blood.
“I’ve been hit.” He chuckled with a wry smile, staggering toward me.
My heart sank when he nearly stumbled, forcing me to rush to him with terror.
“Elder Gita! Elder Gita, help!” I screamed out, catching Negan before he could fall to the ground.
No, no, no, this couldn’t be happening.
This couldn’t be fucking happening!
“I’ll… I’ll be fine, honey,” Negan mumbled, using his bloody right hand to caress my face as I held his body on the ground. “You don’t… You don’t need to scream so much…”
His eyes fluttered, his words becoming slurry.
Just then, Elder Gita rushed to us, kneeling on the ground as well and placing a hand over his stomach.
“By the moon…” She muttered, glancing at me. “Did he get hit by those spikes?”
I blinked erratically, my lips parting repeatedly as I tried to find words.
Just then, the nobleman that Negan had gone to help in the first place walked up to us, a solemn expression on his face.
“He got hit during the Alpha’s scuffle with the creature. He… He was only trying to help me.” He shook his head with pity in his eyes.
Right now, none of these words mattered to me as I got up, stumping my legs anxiously on the ground.
“W– We need to help him. He’s losing a lot of blood and… And then we’ll have to make it to the ancients and–”
Before I could complete my rant, Elder Gita turned her gaze to me, placing her finger in front of her mouth.

“Shhhh.”
I gulped, keeping shut as I placed my hands in front of my face, watching as the older woman brought out a small bottle.
The bottle contained a purple liquid which she poured on the wounded area.
Suddenly, Negan grunted, gritting his teeth and turning around the ground in pain.
He jerked, his eyes closed until he finally stopped moving.
Time seemed to freeze just then.
No. It can’t be…
“What happened?” Kaene’s voice suddenly sounded from behind us, causing me to turn my gaze to him.
He was covered in a green goo-like liquid, which was probably the blood of the creature.
I glanced behind him only to see the creature dead on the ground, its head ripped out of its body.
“The Beta was hit by one of the poison spikes of that creature.” Elder Gita revealed to Kaene with a heavy sigh. “The potion I applied on his wound should help his wolf heal the poison, but for that to work, he’ll need to be asleep, so it also forced him into a deep sleep.”
That was a lot of talking but still no clues on if he’s going to be okay.
“A deep sleep?” Lycan Davos walked up to us just then, a scowl on his face. “We just got to this forest and barely a few minutes in, we got attacked by that beast. What if we run into more? Are you telling me that we’re now one man short?”
The frustration in his voice was palpable as he groaned, brushing his hand through his hair.
I got up just then, trying to salvage the situation. “The Beta will be fine. He just needs some rest. I’m… I’m sure the rest of us will be enough to handle whatever threats we come across after this.”
There was an awkward silence after I said that, the Lycan slowly turning his gaze to me with furrowed eyebrows.
“Us?” He repeated, scoffing before he shook his head. “With all due respect, Luna, but you shouldn’t even be here. This mission isn’t one fit for a woman, especially not one who can’t use her wolf right now.”
His words came like a punch to my gut, causing my hands to ball into fists as I glared at him.
What the fuck?!
“What do you have against women, Lycan?” I asked, taking a step forward. “Scratch that, what do you have against me? Elder Gita is a woman and I don’t see you–”
“Elder Gita is our spiritual leader and has shown her usefulness by keeping Negan’s condition stable.” The Lycan interrupted with a plain expression. “You can’t be seriously trying to compare–”
“Enough of this!” Kaene FINALLY spoke up, glancing at me before he turned his gaze to Lycan Davos. “Davos, you’ll be in charge of carrying the Beta until we get to our destination. For now, we need to be as cautious as possible and stick together.”
I glanced at the Lycan, my jaw clenching with spite.
