Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 205
Chapter 205: _All In One Day
Just as I thought I could push the grief aside and have some peace and quiet, the door to my suite swung open and Elder Gita walked in as if the room was hers.
I stared at her, my eyes unmoving. Kaene who had been in the process of unbuttoning his bloodied shirt stopped.
“I would not interrupt unless it was important.” She announced, her expression grim like she would rather be anywhere else but here.
I had a bad feeling about what she wanted to talk about.
“What is it?” Kaene asked, his face etched in confusion.
Elder Gita’s gaze met mine, and something in her eyes told me I wouldn’t like what she had to say.
What could possibly scare me in her words? She had promised earlier to tell us how she appeared back in the pack.
What was so urgent that she couldn’t wait and didn’t even congratulate us for the battle we had just won.
Why did I feel uneasy about this?
“It is about Negan.” She breathed out, her voice strangely calm.
“What about him?” I asked, my voice came off as barely a whisper.
She hesitated, as if she was deciding to speak or not.
“He betrayed us.”
Her words shattered the peace I had tried so hard to keep despite the heavy guilt in my heart only to be replaced with rage.
I felt my anger rise as I balled my fists. The fuck is she talking about?
Kaene’s body tensed beside me, his face contorting into a deep frown.
I took in a sharp breath, my heartbeat quickening with rage, “What did you just say?”
Elder Gita remained still, maintaining a poker face. Her stance and poise showed how unaffected she was by my reaction.
“Negan was never truly on our side. He was part of an association called the Brotherhood. An association that sought to destroy this pack.” She said.
No! She was lying and she had no clue what she was talking about.
Negan?
From the moment I stepped into this pack, when I had felt alone and out of place, Negan had been there.
When Kaene had been cold to me in the beginning, he had been there.
The same Negan had stood beside me through every hardship I faced from Kaene’s mother, Elsa and the terrible people of this pack.
He had protected me countless times when the pack found out about us. He had snuck me out of the mansion when this place suffocated me.
He had brought me food, comforted me and made me happy.
Negan had always been there.
Always.
How could Elder Gita stand there and tell me that none of it was real?
How could she expect me to believe that Negan had been a lie.

I turned to Kaene, needing him to say something. To scoff and call this ridiculous.
But Kaene was silent. He was considering it.
He was actually considering it.
I shook my head violently, taking a step back. “No! You’re wrong!” I snapped.
I would not accept this, never!
Elder Gita remained calm.
Kaene’s jaw tightened, his body shook with fury. “Negan was not only my friend, he was my brother. He fought and bled for us. What the hell are you talking about?” He spat out.
Elder Gita shook her head, unfazed by Kaene’s fury, “He was not meant to die. His mission was to weaken you, to tear this pack apart from the inside.”
She stared right back at Keane, her eyes burned with intensity as if telling him to listen attentively.
“But he made a costly mistake, he mocked the moon goddess. He was arrogant and that became his downfall, he got carried away in his dream and he became a gift to the witches.”
Raw anger surged through me. It’s bad enough that we had to leave him behind, we had sacrificed him. I hadn’t mourned him properly, now, this woman was spewing nonsense about him.
I will not have it.
“No, you don’t get to stand here and rewrite the past. Negan was with us since the beginning. He saved my life more times than I can count.” I bellowed.
Kaene turned away, running a hand through his hair. His shoulders were tense, as if he was internally fighting against her words.
Wait! Does he believe her? This was nothing to think about, Negan would never betray us.
“Negan was strong and capable, I always relied on him. You are wrong.” He muttered.
Elder Gita sighed. “I wish I were, but I have proof.”
She raised a hand, swirling her index finger. And a faint golden glow appeared, morphing to the shape of a large mirror.
The mirror showed Negan in an office, he was in an heated conversation with his assistant. At first we didn’t hear their words, but Elder Gita snapped her fingers and just like magic, we heard them clearly.
“The Alpha is getting weaker.” Negan murmured, his voice calm and his eyes shone in a cold glint.
A part of him that I never knew existed.
He continued, “Phoebe is a distraction, but she won’t be a problem for us. Once Kaene is out of the picture, the pack will fall to knees.”
“Will you be able to kill her? That so-called distraction has changed you.” Rowland said point blank.
“Get out!” His voice carried such raw anger that I had never seen.
As Rowland walked out, Negan mumbled to himself.
“Kaene is mine to kill, the pack will fall to its knees and Phoebe… She could just be my toy.” A crooked smile formed at his lips.
And the vision ended there.
The room fell into silence. It was thick and heavy, suffocating even.
I staggered back, my breath hitched in my throat. My vision blurred as tears welled up my eyes.
No.
No, no! This had to be some sort of joke.
I didn’t believe it, I would never stain the memories of Negan. He was not a betrayer.
Kaene stiffened beside me, his fists shaking at his sides.
Kaene turned to me, his forehead creased as a scowl was present on his face. I couldn’t read his expression, but one thing I could tell.
He believed Elder Gita.
I swallowed hard, shaking my head furiously.
“It’s not real, he wouldn’t…” The words got caught in my throat, tears preventing me from saying anything else.
Negan’s voice echoed in my head. “Kaene is mine to kill.”
His voice was cold and distant.
I felt sick.
Negan was never our friend, he was our downfall.
And we had been blind to it.
The wave of pain from the betrayal hit me, I knew it was the truth. I clenched my chest in pain.
I had mourned him, missed him, but he was a betrayer.
I couldn’t accept this. I wished he was here, to tell me Elder Gita was lying.
“Why are you telling us this now?” Kaene’s voice dripped in sorrow and a deep regret.
At least he could speak, he didn’t remain mute like me.
Elder Gita scrutinized us carefully, “Because, the time is right. We have a lot to discuss, but for now I’ll leave you to your thoughts.”
She turned back sharply, not waiting for any response. Sometimes, the woman acted like a witch.
She was a harbinger of bad news.
Why would Negan do that? I trusted him, with my life even.
Kaene drew in a long breath. Then, without a word, he turned away, walking toward the balcony. His hands gripped the ledge tightly, his knuckles turning white.
I found it hard to accept this. It felt like I was losing my sanity.
First, we transported from the witches realm, then we fought a battle and now, this?
All in one day.
I needed something… anything.
Something to take my pain away and make me feel alive again even for a moment.
The pain was unbearable.
Kaene walked back in, his expression unreadable. He pulled off his clothes quietly and stepped into the shower.
Right, I needed a hot bath.
I pulled off my clothes too, throwing them in a corner. As I walked slowly to the bathroom.
