Chapter 211: _Why I Was The Moon’s Chosen.

I stared at Elder Gita, I wasn’t sure that I heard her correctly.
Me?
The powerful person that would make our victory certain was me?
Sometimes, Elder Gita spoke as if she didn’t know what she was talking about. But I knew better than anyone how true her words were.
I shook my head slightly, shaking off the news I had just heard. “No, that’s not possible. It had to be a joke.” My voice cracking at the end.
This was too much for me to handle, this was not the right time to bring up words that didn’t make any iota of sense. Not after everything I had endured.
I was already on the verge of breaking, I could barely hold on anymore. And now this?
Elder Gita was absolutely unmoved by whatever I said. “It is the truth, Luna. You have always been destined for something far greater than you could have ever imagined.”
Destined for something greater my foot!
I furrowed my brows, confusion written all over my face. The more I thought about it, the more ridiculous it looks and sounds.
I scoffed, running a hand through my hair in frustration. “What the hell does that even mean?” I snapped, feeling my anger rise.
Elder Gita stared at me, her gaze soft and warm as if she understood how I felt. A motherly warmth exuded from her aura. For the first time, Elder Gita was not calm while delivering a bombshell.
I hated the way she looked at me, like I were a kid and needed some sympathy. I clenched my fists, feeling my blood boil with rage. I didn’t need her sympathy or help or anybody’s help.
She should step in my shoes for a while, let’s see if she’ll keep staring at me that way.
She cleared her throat before she spoke, “You have always had it in you, but you have been blind to it. That is why your journey has been so difficult.”
Bullshit! Had what? Powers?
I was just an ordinary wolf, a maid turned Luna. Yes, it was a little surprising, but I didn’t have any powers. If I did, does she really think now was the best time to tell me, why didn’t she inform me when we had to face the hunters?
“I don’t have any special power or strength. If I did, I would’ve been able to stop the hunters before they killed my people the first time. We wouldn’t have gone to see those damn witches!” My voice rose, anger and frustration mixing together in my voice.
Kaene placed his hand on my shoulder and it did nothing to comfort me. Not even the slightest bit.
“You need to calm down.” He said gently.
I turned sharply to him, my eyes red with rage. “Calm down?! Kaene, do you hear what she’s saying? She’s telling me that I’m someone powerful and I would win the war against something I don’t know.”
I shook Kaene’s hand off my shoulder and sat on the sofa. I felt exhausted, I didn’t want to live this life anymore.
Kaene exhaled, his hands running down his face as he sat beside me. “This is insane.”
I sighed, rubbing my temples. This wasn’t how I expected today to go.
Elder Gita turned to face me, “Luna, have you ever thought about why you were the moon’s chosen?”
I suddenly went mute, my anger slowly dissipating. That was a question that bothered me everytime I was maltreated in the Alphas mansion. The moon’s chosen was always rich and influential young women of the pack.
I had no money or influence, could it really be the truth? That I had powers? But why tell me now?

Elder Gita adjusted the neck piece she wore, a small smile tugging at her lips. “You will understand soon, Luna. When the time comes, your true power will awaken. And before you ask, I don’t know why the moon goddess chose to remain silent about it till now.”
I wasn’t surprised that she could answer my question before I could ask. I wanted to ask more from her, but I was too exhausted to ask.
She should at least tell me what my powers were rather than speaking in parables and asking me to find my true self.
Kaene took in a sharp breath. He must be either confused or exhausted from the whole situation. “We’ll figure this out.” He murmured, placing his hand over my shoulder once more and pressing his lips against my temple.
I just nodded, staring at the floor and lost in my thoughts.
Elder Gita stepped forward, obviously about to leave. “You both should put your minds at rest now. Isn’t it reassuring to know you’ll win the war even if you don’t know what it is? The moon goddess revealed that much.”
I shot her a glare. Very easy for her to talk like that, when she didn’t have the weight of defending the pack on her shoulders.
“I’ll take my leave now, I will let you know what’s the moon goddess revealed what’s coming.” Elder Gita’s voice rang out.
Without another word, she left.
The moment she shut the door, Kaene let out a long, shaky breath. He cupped my face, tilting my chin so he would look at me. “Are you okay?” His voice laced with concern.
Of course I was not okay, I was far from it. But I found my voice, “I don’t think so.” I replied as honestly as I could.
He nodded. “Let’s go back to the suite. You need to lie down.”
I hesitated. I didn’t want to lie down, I was not that weak. But I knew better, my head was beginning to bang with a headache so I nodded weakly, allowing him to guide her out of the office.
As we walked through the halls, I remained quiet, my mind clearly racing. I was overwhelmed. Everything we had been through, Negan, the hunters, the witches, it was too much to take in all at once.
Worse of all, I was already leaning into what Elder Gita said, that I had powers.
When we finally reached our suite, I sat on the bed without saying a word. Keane sat beside me, waiting and watching me closely.
Finally, I spoke, the silence bothering me “Kaene, what if she’s wrong? What if I’m not meant for this and we lose?”
He grabbed my hand, intertwining our fingers. “Then we’ll find another way. And then we’ll face it together.” His voice filled with certainty.
He squeezed my hand, flashing me a reassuring smile. I leaned in, resting my head on his shoulder.
I just wanted to stay that way with no worries and then, a knock sounded at the door.
Argh! Could this day get any worse?
