Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 213
Chapter 213: _Moving The Pack.
Kaene crouched beside the body, a scowl appearing on his face. “Who is he?” He asked, his voice low that I almost didn’t hear him.
“We don’t know Sir, he was not part of the pack. No scent, no familiar features.” One of the warriors answered, his voice shaky, hinting at fear.
Of course, a warrior would also be scared of the scene in front of us. It was simply horrifying.
“I think he’s a stranger, he has no scent.”
Lycan Davos said, looking at the body then looking back at the group of warriors.
A wave of relief flooded me, but I also felt really bad for the person, whoever he was. He was someone’s father, son, friend, husband and brother, yet he was used a sacrificial lamb.
He got caught in a cross fire, but no one knows him enough to give him a befitting burial or meet his family.
How many more people needed to die? What is coming and what do they want? And how do I stop it?
Elder Gita has not been helpful in this situation, she kept speaking in parables and still can’t see what’s coming for us.
I really can’t take it anymore.
“Did anyone see someone strange? And who found the body?” Kaene asked his eyes searching among the warriors.
“I found the body sir, but I didn’t see anyone strange. I came here to clean the training equipments.” A young warrior stepped out, still trembling with fear. He looked like he was just recruited judging from how young he looked.
Kaene nodded, giving a dismissive wave of his hand.
My eyes darted back to the body, and then I saw it. The dead man’s hand held tightly to something, a piece of paper, stained with blood.
How had they missed it?
Right on cue, as if Kaene could read my mind. He reached for it, carefully prying the fingers open before taking the note. His expression darkened as he read the words.
I was curious so I moved closer to him, then without a word, he handed it to me.
I took it, my hands trembling slightly as I read the note.
“We are coming!”
I staggered backwards, swallowing hard. My throat became dry and my breath came out in ragged bursts as I clenched the note.
A warning. This was a warning.
I tried to keep my reaction in check so I wouldn’t scare the warriors or come off as a weak Luna.
Kaene clenched his jaw, his eyes burning with fury as he saw the scene before him once more. The warriors were still murmuring in hushed voices, the sight of the mutilated body was enough to shake even the strongest among them.
Everyone knew it wasn’t done by a wolf.
“This pack will not fall into fear, especially its warriors.” Kaene declared, standing from his crouching position. His voice was sharp, loud and filled with undeniable authority as his eyes scanned the warriors.
“From now on, security is doubled. I want warriors stationed at every entrance into the pack, patrols increased around the borders, and every single one of you ready for anything. No one is to walk alone or slack off.” He continued.
He glanced at Lycan Davos, pointing at him. “He is in charge. You will go now to inform the others, assemble back here and await his commands. Do I make myself clear?” His voice boomed with power, echoing in the training grounds.
I didn’t object to him making Lycan Davos in charge. I saw his battle prowess in the last fight and how coordinated his group was. He was the best choice.
The warriors nodded before scattering to carry out Kaene’s orders, but Lycan Davos remained behind. I couldn’t read his expression.
He placed his hand over his chest, bowing to Kaene. “I am greatly honored for this opportunity to…”

“We need to talk, now!” Kaene said sharply, cutting Lycan Davos’s words short.
With that, he grabbed my hand turning sharply as he headed back into the Alpha mansion. I followed him, my mind heavy with unspoken thoughts.
What was I meant to do? Elder Gita said I was someone powerful and I needed to find my true self. But how?
If only it had manual or something, I sighed in frustration, feeling a headache rising.
Sir Alan and Sir Elijah were already waiting for us inside, the news reaching them faster than I thought.
Kaene kept walking, ignoring their greetings. I could hear their footsteps, following us ashe led us to his office.
Kaene wasted no time. “We have a problem.” He said, frowning as he ran his hand through his hair in frustration.
Sir Elijah scoffed, crossing his arms. “Another one? We just left the ancient realm, barely recovered from the mess we were thrown into and now this?”
My previously calm demeanor was instantly replaced with anger at his words. Time to time, Sir Elijah had never failed to remind us how selfish and self centered he was. I wondered how he became an elder in the first place.
“Not now! We don’t have time for your bitchy attitude.” I snapped. He squeezed his face in dissatisfaction, folding his arms and leaning back to the wall behind him.
Sir Alan rubbed his temples. “It never ends, does it?” He murmured.
“Yes it does, and we will all make it happen.” I spat out. For some reason, I was getting increasingly annoyed at their attitude. None of them asked what happened or how they could be of help, instead they were complaining and murmuring like little kids.
I shot them a look of disdain, as I tried to calm myself because my anger wouldn’t solve anything.
Lycan Davos exhaled. “What exactly are we dealing with?”
Exactly what those fools would have asked! I rolled my eyes at them, expressing my displeasure.
Kaene balled his fists, his knuckles turning white. “Elder Gita warned us about something coming for us because there’s a curse attached to packs attacked by the hunters. And now we have a body that looks like it was ripped apart by something deadly, a beast of some sort and a note. This is not a coincidence.”
A heavy silence fell over the room, everyone seemingly lost in thoughts. I scanned their faces, searching for an answer to my own dilemma. How do I find my true self?
Was this fate’s way of telling me I’d never escape chaos? Is this a test from the moon goddess to see if I’m fit to be a Luna? I never asked for this to begin with so why was I being tortured?
“What do we do?” Sir Alan’s voice rang out, interrupting my thoughts.
“We can’t afford to wait and see what happens next, we need to prepare. Lycan Davos is already in charge of security.” Kaene said, his voice firm.
“I suggest we gather the entire pack and move them to a safe house until we figure out what we’re dealing with.” Sir Elijah voiced out.
I scoffed. A fool! Only a fool would think that way, gather the entire pack to a safe house?
“Evacuating an entire pack isn’t simple, Elijah. Where would you have us go?” Sir Alan frowned.
Lycan Davos sighed heavily. “You expect everyone to just pick up and leave? You know they’ll resist.”
Sir Elijah’s eyes darkened. “They’ll listen. Because if we don’t act now, we might not have a pack left to protect.”
I glanced at Kaene as the others argued on. He furrowed his brows, lost in thoughts. I knew he was considering what Sir Elijah said and that alone irritated me.
Where would the whole pack move to? What would they eat? We were talking about the whole pack, every single one.
Kaene turned to me, his eyes seeking an answer. “Phoebe?” I blinked, realizing he was waiting for me to speak.
Even in times like this, he gave me the chance to speak, to exert my authority and make this big decision. He wants the others to know that my decision is final. He nodded, urging me to speak.
“We are not moving the pack. We are talking about the entire pack here, that alone would raise an alarm to the enemy. What if they attacked the pack while we moved? Have you thought of that?” My voice eluded power as I shot a glare at Sir Elijah for his stupid idea.
“The enemy snuck through the pack borders, dropping a mutilated body and no one saw them. What makes you think moving would be safe?” I continued, my answer focused on reprimanding Sir Elijah.
“What do we do, Luna?” Lycan Davos said politely, scratching the back of his head.
“We need to exert a curfew, increase the security and most importantly, speak with the pack. Inform them of what’s coming, not to scare them but to protect them.” I said with confidence.
Kaene stared at me, giving me a small smile, he seemed happy with my decision. I smiled back, as he tucked a lock of hair behind my ears. That little moment between us calmed my nerves, I was glad to know that the current situation didn’t reduce his affection for me.
Keane looked back at them, “Your Luna has spoken, gather the pack for a meeting.”
