Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 214
Chapter 214: _The Truth.
Sir Alan and Lycan Davos wasted no time after Kaene’s command, they exchanged quick nods before exiting the office. Only Sir Elijah had a look of displeasure on his face as he sluggishly walked out.
He was really testing my patience with his open display of defiance. He found every opportunity to show how dissatisfied he was with my commands. I could almost swear he was in on the betrayal with Negan.
I shook my mind off Sir Elijah, he simply wasn’t worth my time when I had other pressing matters.
I felt the heavy weight of what was coming for us, the fear it brought shook my very core. I hugged myself, feeling the temperature drop just thinking about the unknown.
Kaene wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me closer to his embrace. “You did good. Everything will be fine.” His voice calm as he pressed a kiss to my forehead.
I placed my head on his chest, closing my eyes. I felt the gentle rise and fall of his chest as I took in his scent. I wished to stay that way forever.
“What do we do now? Should we see Elder Gita after the meeting with the pack?” Kaene asked, gently rubbing my back.
I shook my head, my face still in his chest. He chuckled, cupping my face to look up at him. His eyes held a loving gaze, a silent promise that everything would truly be fine.
Before I could speak, a knock sounded at the door, again.
I stiffened, the little peace I had disappeared. Our current situation made me know that every knock brings misfortune and bad news.
My heart raced as I thought of a thousand things that could be going on? Did they find another body? Are we under an attack?
I barely heard when Kaene told whoever it was to come in and the door opened, revealing my parents.
“Mom, Dad?” My brows furrowed as I took a step toward them. I knew something was off as I set my eyes on them.
The way my mom held my dad’s arm as if her life depended on it and she would collapse if she dared let go. Her face was pale, eyes were red as though she had cried overnight.
At first, I thought it was my dad’s health they came to discuss but judging from the look of things, it didn’t seem that way. My dad seemed unusually quiet, his jaw clenched and he looked troubled.
“We need to speak with you, Phoebe.” My mom said, her voice shaky. She glanced at Kaene, who instinctively stepped back, giving space as if preparing to leave.
“No, you should stay. You need to hear this too.” She said, gripping my father’s arm tighter. Kaene narrowed his eyes slightly but gave a nod, choosing to lean against the desk instead.
I folded my arms across my chest. “What’s going on?” I looked at them, confused.
My mom hesitated before glancing at my dad. He gave her a small nod as if urging her to speak. I was beginning to get scared, their actions worried me more. I had never seen them this way.
Her body trembled as she finally spoke. “I’ve been having visions. They started a while ago, they were dreams at first, but now they’ve grown stronger.”
Visions? Was my mom a seer now? What could she have seen that had her riled up this way?
I clenched my fists, I silently swore that if anyone was responsible for tormenting my mom this way, I’d make them pay.
She paused slightly, as if scared to speak and then, she finally spoke. “Now, I see them when I walk, when I eat, when I do anything at all. The same message over and over again and they all tell me the same thing.”
I stepped closer. “What do they say?” I asked.
Her lower lip quivered, her eyes wet with tears. “That it’s time to tell the truth.” She replied, her voice barely audible now.
The truth?
I barely had time to react before my mother broke down in loud, painful sobs.
“Mom!” I screamed, rushing forward to grab her hands. I tried to steady her as she trembled, my eyes darted to my dad and his eyes were red too.
“What’s wrong? What truth?” I asked, confused.

Kaene sat up straight, his attention sharp as he watched the scene unfold.
My mom cupped my face in her trembling hands, tears streaking down her cheeks. “Phoebe, my sweet girl. We are not your real parents.”
A ringing sound filled my ears. I pulled away, staring at her, my mind struggling to process the words. “What? W-What do you mean?” I stammered, shaking my head as I stepped back.
She drew in a sharp breath, trying to steady herself while my dad spoke instead. “You were given to us. We found you at the pack’s borders, left in the arms of a dying woman.”
I shook my head slowly. “No, no, that’s not possible. That doesn’t make sense.”
He continued speaking, his voice sober and filled with regret. “She begged us to keep you safe. She said she had nowhere else to go, that you would die if we didn’t take you.”
I looked at Kaene, his eyes widened in shock. The look on his face made me realize that he was indeed hearing the same as I was.
I shook my head in disbelief, this couldn’t be happening. Tears blurred my vision.
“We wanted to protect you. It really is a long story, Phoebe.” My mom cried, her voice ringing out once more.
“When we met her, she told us that you were an abomination. That her own people had banished her because she had you.” She said, breaking into sobs again.
I was an abomination? An unwanted baby. I clutched my chest in pain as I felt tears streaming down my cheeks.
Kaene had reached my side and I wasn’t even aware. He held me, trying to comfort me as he made me sit on the sofa.
“When she was banished, she had gone back to meet your father but he was already dead when she got there. She realized that he was killed by her own people and as she left his place, she was chased after too.” My dad continued from where she stopped.
My breath hitched. “Who was she?” I asked, trembling.
My mom stopped crying and looked at my dad in the eye, each having an internal debate as if weighing their next choice of words.
“Tell me!” I yelled, unable to withstand the suspense anymore.
My mom swallowed hard, her eyes looking everywhere else but me. “She was a vampire and your father, he was a werewolf.”
I felt like I had been stabbed multiple times as I heard her words, even Kaene’s grip loosened.
A sharp, suffocating silence filled the room.
I turned to my father, hoping, praying he would deny it. That he would laugh and say it was some cruel joke, but he didn’t. He just watched me with eyes filled with sorrow.
I shook my head violently. “No. No, that’s not possible. I’m a werewolf! I shifted! I…”
“She gave us a potion that suppressed your vampire side. She wanted you to live as a normal werewolf, you wouldn’t have survived if her people found you.” My mother interrupted, kneeling down to grip my hands.
I yanked my hand away from her, my breath came out in ragged bursts. My hands trembled as I stared at them, suddenly feeling foreign and unfamiliar.
I don’t understand, why? Why did they keep this from me?
“So you lied? You let me grow up believing I belonged here when I never did? You let me believe I was your daughter.” My voice cracked.
“You are our daughter. No matter what blood runs through your veins, you are ours.” My dad said firmly, stepping forward.
I let out a shaky laugh, “No, I’m not. I’m something else entirely, aren’t I?”
“I’m so sorry baby, we didn’t want you to suffer. We wanted you to have a life, a family, a pack.” My mom said, her eyes glistening with tears, trying to reach my hands once more, but I pushed her hands back.
Kaene who was silent this entire time, finally held my shaking hands. “Phoebe.” He murmured, but I wasn’t listening.
My head spun, my chest ached. My entire world had just been ripped from me. I was a fake. What would happen if the people found out I was a hybrid Luna?
I couldn’t breathe, my vision blurred. Then I saw nothing but darkness.
I collapsed.
