Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 219
Chapter 219: _Protect My People.
I opened my eyes and saw that I wasn’t in any place familiar, instead I stood barefooted in a field of flowers. The moon was bright in the sky and the stars seemed to shine in a different way.
I felt tired, lost and broken, but this place comforted my troubled heart. I looked around because I was indeed weak and needed some rest.
There was a tree, tall and wide, its leaves moving gently against the night breeze. I walked toward it, feeling the cold grass beneath my feet.
I sat under the tree as I pulled my knees to my chest, resting my head against the bark and I closed my eyes.
Suddenly, I felt a presence, forcing my tired eyes open. There she stood, in front of me, a woman dressed in a white flowing dress, her long silver hair dancing in the wind.
Her skin was pale and smooth, her eyes shone like the stars. The moon cast its lights on her, making her even more beautiful than she was and she radiated peace.
“You are troubled, child.” She said, her voice soft and beautiful to the ears. I didn’t know her, but something about her made me want to tell her about my troubles, my fear.
“I don’t know what I am anymore.” I whispered, tears threatening to fall down my cheeks.
“You don’t have to cry, you are exactly who you were meant to be.” She replied, smiling gently.
I shook my head. “I’m a hybrid, a monster, an abomination. If the pack finds out, they’ll never accept me.” I said, looking down as if something on the ground interested me.
“You think so little of yourself, when you have powers. Powers greater than you can imagine.” She moved closer, bending down to meet my eyes.
I turned my face so I wouldn’t face her, “I don’t even know how to use these powers, I don’t want them.”
The woman laughed softly, lifting my chin up with her finger. My eyes met hers and I melted into her touch, it was so comforting that I wanted to stay there forever.
“You worry so much about things that don’t matter. Your people need you, they need your power, your strength, your protection.” Her eyes searched mine for an answer.
“I don’t feel strong.” I sniffled, holding back the tears.
“You don’t have to feel it, child, you already are. You are Luna, chosen by me, there is nothing to fear anymore. Or do you think I chose wrong?”
I blinked at her. “Y-You are the moon goddess?” I stammered. She didn’t say a word, instead she smiled.
She placed her hand on my forehead. “Awaken, Phoebe. Go and protect your people.” She whispered, as she disappeared, her voice lingered in her absence.
I gasped and my eyes flew open. I furrowed my brows in deep thought as I remembered the dream I just had, I looked around realized that I was in Kaene’s suite.
My mom sat by my side, dozing off, her hand gripping mine. My father sat on the sofa, he was asleep too.
I sat up straight, my mind going back to her last words “Go and protect your people.” I muttered under my breath.
“Phoebe!” My mom screamed, waking my dad. She wrapped her arms around me tightly. “Oh, sweetheart! You’re awake! I’m so sorry baby, it was all my fault.” She held me tighter, breaking into small sobs.
My dad reached us in a heartbeat, smiling at me and then his face morphed into surprise, “Your hair, it’s red. What happened?”
My mom pulled away, her jaw dropped as she saw my hair. I wasn’t shocked that my hair was red, it was not my priority and I knew it had something to do with the moon goddess anyway.
I had a duty, I had to protect my people. I am not a monster, I am the Luna of the Bluemoon pack.
“Where is Kaene?” I asked, my voice sharper than I intended it to be.
“There’s a battle happening, but he told us to keep you here.” My mom said, her tone already pleading like she knew I wouldn’t agree.
“No!” I protested, throwing the sheets off my body as I got up from the bed.
“Phoebe! You just woke up!” My dad snapped and my mom placed her trembling hands over her mouth.

“I don’t care. I’m the Luna and I’m done hiding.” I muttered.
Without another word, I pushed the door open. Maybe it was my instincts or part of my power, but I knew exactly where Kaene and the pack warriors were.
I didn’t know I got there. I didn’t know if I ran or teleported, but I got to the clearing and I was instantly hit by the smell of blood, sweat, and ash.
Werewolves clashed with vampires, but the vampires were winning, they were slaughtering the wolves. My wolves.
The sight fueled my anger and my blood burned with rage, raw rage. I let out a large howl and that was all I remembered.
The battlefield had gone quiet.
The sound of tearing claws, and dying screams had been replaced with silence. I held a vampire’s body, blood spurted out of his neck, splattering on my body.
I dropped the body and staggered backwards, it couldn’t be me. Did I do this? All of this?
And then, memories flooded me like a wave. I remembered everything I did, but it was like I was in the backseat and my body moved on its own. I did things that I didn’t know I could do, it just came off natural, like breathing.
I looked around, trying to grasp what I had just done. The field was littered with corpses, almost all of them were vampires, ripped, burned and shattered. All died by my command.
“Phoebe.” Kaene breathed out, calling my name softly.
I turned to him and my eyes welled up with tears. I walked forward, trying to reach him, but I stumbled. Kaene caught me instantly, wrapping his arms around me and holding me close.
“I’m sorry, I-I didn’t mean to. I just wanted-I had to stop them.” I cried into his chest.
He held me tighter, placing a kiss in my hair. “No darling, you saved us. You saved all of us.” He said, trying to calm me.
The warriors slowly began to gather, it looked like everyone finally came back to their senses.
Lycan Davos limped forward, blood staining his shirt and a deep slash across his chest, it was healing but it would take some time. Sir Elijah had two deep cuts across his arms that still poured out blood.
Sir Alan leaned against a warrior, panting heavily, covered in blood. I stared at Elder Gita in surprise, I didn’t know she would join the battle. She held her staff tightly in one hand and pressed against a wound in her thigh with the other hand, her robes were torn and stained with blood.
They all stared at me, not with fear, but in awe and that relaxed me a little.
Elder Gita was the first to speak, her voice hoarse. “The moon goddess was right. You are her chosen.”
I looked at her, guilt eating me up. “I made them kill themselves. I…”
“You protected your pack.” Sir Elijah cut me off, his voice calm and I was genuinely surprised. If I was to take a guess on who would take my side, he would be the last on the list or he might not appear at all.
Sir Alan nodded in agreement. “You’re some badass Luna, never seen anything like it. Hope I never do again.” He chuckled, making the atmosphere lighter.
I was confused. Why were they all supportive?
No one was asking questions.
“Thank you, Luna. I would have died back there.” Lycan Davos said, smiling and I forced a smile back.
Kaene looked at the warriors before turning back to me. “Come. Let’s get you out of here.” He gently carried me and I didn’t resist, not like I had the strength to.
“We’ll stay back to get rid of the bodies.” Lycan Davos proposed and Kaene nodded before leaving.
An hour later, the moon had gone and the morning sun was already bright in the sky.
Kaene laid beside me on his bed. He had washed me himself, refusing to let the maids do it. My parents had come to see me, Kaene’s mom too but he sent them off quickly, telling them I needed to rest.
I noticed the large purple bruise by his ribs when he washed up, I asked about it but he kept saying he was fine.
“You know, I should be afraid of you, but all I feel is pride.” Kaene murmured, flashing me a smile as he brushed a strand of hair from my face.
“You don’t think I’m a monster?” My voice cracked and my throat felt dry.
He moved closer, our foreheads touching, “You were never a monster, Phoebe.” I felt his hot breath against my face.
I glanced up at him, my heart pounding. “Do you think it over now?” I asked, my eyelids fluttered.
“Yes, everything is fine now. I promise.” He whispered, leaning closer. I blinked rapidly as my face turned a shade of red.
I took that opportunity to ask the question that had been bugging me since I was aware that I was a hybrid.
“Kaene, do you still love me? The way I am now?” I asked, my voice barely audible.
He gave me a knowing smile, like he knew I was going to ask that question.
He pulled me closer and our lips met, it was sweet and electrifying at the same time. I melted into the kiss and the butterflies in my stomach danced happily.
He pulled away, “I love you, Phoebe. Always have, always will.”
