Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 45
Chapter 45: _Fellow Maids
As I struggled to keep my towel wrapped around my body while getting up, Elsa sniggered coldly, staring at me with disdain.
“That serves you right.” She spat. “You’ve been all talk but no bite these past few days. Next time, you’ll think twice before trading words with a noble-born werewolf like myself.”
Noble born?
I ground my jaw, my fingers caressing the spot she’d scratched.
The maid who’d come to my aid still stood beside me, her hands supporting my shoulder like I was hit by a car.
I was touched by her concern but I didn’t need it as I brushed her away politely, stepping forward.
“You have a lot of nerve,” I remarked, sucking on my teeth as if that would do anything to calm the growing anger inside me.
I was fighting every urge I had to throw a punch in the bitch’s face. It seemed she was in dire need of free cosmetic surgery for her botched face and I happened to be the right girl for the job.
But I knew what this was…
“It’s obvious that you’re trying to get me into some kind of trouble by making me attack you,” I stated calmly, surprised by the self-control I had. “But I’ll ignore your… Stupidity, for now at least.”
Without another word, I turned around and continued making my way to my suite.
Luckily for me, the scratch mark wasn’t that deep and should heal up in a few hours or so.
The perks of being a werewolf.
“That’s right! You better run like the peasant dog that you are.” Elsa hollered from behind me, disregarding any ounce of self-respect she thought she had. “And I promise, the next time you say something snarky or insulting is the day I’ll bury you alive!”
Gosh, did her yapping have no end?
She was making me regret not taking out some of her teeth, but I had to hold myself back.
Fighting Elsa would mean angering Kaene’s mother and Sir Thatcher.
Beta Negan did say Elsa and Catherine planned on killing me anyway.
Finally, I got to my suite and shut the door behind me, sighing to myself as I stepped in and changed into some fresh clothes.
However, I soon heard a knock on my door when I’d gotten fully dressed, prompting me to turn my gaze to the door.
“Who is it? Come in!” I yelled, taking a look at the simple day dress I wore through the full-length mirror.
I already knew who it was and was a little glad.
The door swung open as Miranda, my most trusted maid, stepped in, sounding enthusiastic as she greeted me. “Good morning, Luna. I hope you had a good night’s rest after–”
Before she could complete her sentence, I turned around, making sure she saw my face.
Her mouth fell as she pointed at the scratch mark on the side of my face. “M– Ma’am? By the moon, what happened to your face?! Who did this?”
She sounded alarmed, but I knew exactly why.
Aside from the fact that I was Luna, it was obvious Kaene specially assigned her to look after me.
Meaning, she’d probably be the one who’d be questioned the most if he came back home and saw this mark on my face.
Luckily, I had a solution as I waved dismissively. “Don’t bother yourself about it, just… Help me put concealing makeup on it before it heals. You should be good at that, right?”
Miranda gawked at me with hesitation but eventually nodded, scurrying forward hastily as she helped me sit in front of the makeup desk in the suite.

Before she began applying the makeup on my face, however, she paused for a few seconds when her gaze fell on my neck and the mate mark on it.
Shit, should I get her to conceal that as well?
Fortunately for me, Miranda didn’t dare ask about the mate mark as she went to work, first starting by cleaning the wound on my face.
After that, she applied the necessary concealing makeup to it, making it almost detectable within twenty minutes.
“Wow, this looks great!” I exclaimed, turning my gaze to her after checking myself out in the mirror.
Miranda smiled shyly, bowing slightly. “Thank you, ma’am. By the way, before I forget, the Beta is waiting for you in your office.”
I stopped checking myself out as my heart skipped a bit.
The Beta? Office?
I mean, I knew the Luna position would probably come along with my very own office but I didn’t think I’d be getting in one anytime soon, especially with all the drama from Elsa and Kaene’s mother.
Anyway, I snapped back to reality, nodding at Miranda. “Very well, please lead the way.”
She nodded, gesturing at the door before walking ahead of me and opening it.
As we stepped out, walking through the hallways, I spotted two maids talking about something in a corner.
Curious, I used my enhanced hearing to listen to their conversation and wasn’t too surprised at what I heard.
“So you’re saying Elsa Thatcher finally put that arrogant girl in her place?” One of the maids remarked in surprise.
The other one, who was none other than the one who’d tried ‘helping’ me out when Elsa scratched me, responded with a nod. “I’m telling you, you had to be there to see it happening. The Luna was on the floor after, half-naked with a towel.”
My jaw ground in anger at the way she sarcastically called me ‘Luna’.
The two girls chuckled to themselves, covering their mouths as they were about to step out of the corner.
But I’d heard enough.
“Greetings fellow maids.” I blurted, startling them.
They turned their heads to me, the pretentious maid’s eyes widening in shock as she hurriedly bowed.
“M– My Luna, I–” Before she could continue with her deceit, I raised my hand, stopping her.
Miranda had probably overheard them, too, but stood beside me, keeping silent.
Wise choice…
“My dear, I’m merely a maid like you, aren’t I?” I blurted with a plastered smile on my face, withholding the urge to slap her across the face.
I had to set a better example than Elsa, despite how pissed I was.
Anyway, the two maids hurriedly disagreed with what I said. “You’re… You’re not just a maid, Luna. We… We were just–”
“I heard every damn thing you said you two faced backstabber.” I snapped coldly, my gaze fleeting between the two maids. “And honestly, I don’t care. It’s not your fault anyway that the Luna of this pack was once a maid barely a week ago.”
The two maids had their faces lowered, speechless.
But I’d had enough and signaled Miranda to continue leading the way, but not without adding. “Trust me when I say I wouldn’t tolerate your gossip again if I hear them.”
And with that, I left the two morons as Miranda led me to Beta Negan.
