Chapter 52: _Getting Rid Of A Problem
(Warning: Violence and Gore ahead)
“Brittany, yes, I remember you telling me about the Beta and Luna and their suspicious behavior around each other last night at the Ball,” Miranda admitted, rubbing her forehead like she was trying hard to remember something. “But… But I didn’t start any rumors.”
Brittany seemed to believe her now, breathing heavily. “This is… This is troublesome. Could you have developed some kind of amnesia?”
Dearie me, it was so fun watching them get confused about the whole thing.
However, my eyes knitted into a frown when Brittany brought a suggestion. “Elder Gita! Why don’t you go to her and seek her opinion? Maybe this thing affecting you has some spiritual meaning.”
What the heck?
No, no, no… I couldn’t let them do that!
Elder Gita was the pack’s spiritual leader and if there was anyone who could decipher if someone was under a spell… It was her.
“That old hag will easily be able to trace the spell to me,” I muttered, gritting my teeth.
Meanwhile, Miranda seemed to think deeply about Brittany’s advice before shaking her head. “Nah, I think I might just need some rest. Seeking Elder Gita because of this seems like overkill.”
Yes!
“Rest?” Brittany scoffed, rolling her eyes. “Girl, rest from what? Ever since Phoebe became the Luna, you’ve had it easier than most other maids and aren’t required to perform hard tasks. This isn’t an issue that ‘rest’ can solve.”
Argh, what was wrong with this Britany girl?!
If she manages to convince Miranda to go to elder Gita, things would become complicated really fast.
I might be forced to get rid of her.
‘Hmph, it’s been a while since I felt the warmth of werewolf blood.’ I thought to myself, waiting curiously to see how this conversation goes.
Luckily for Miranda, she waved her hand dismissively. “I’m telling you, Brittany, I’ll be fine.”
Brittany didn’t seem convinced but let the matter slide, shrugging. “Hey, if you insist, who am I to meddle? I just… Have a bad feeling about this.”
What an intuitive she-wolf.
Too bad I’ll have to get rid of both of them if they dared seek Elder Gita.
I couldn’t afford any loose ends.
.
.
Night time came and with it, some progress on Miranda.
I’d taken it upon myself to monitor her from the shadows ever since her conversation with Brittany, and I could feel the anxiety she felt.
I couldn’t blame her… Finding out that thoughts you’ve shared with others were never yours to begin with was confusing.
At a point, Keane finally arrived and joined the rest of the ‘family’ at the dinner table.
Little did they know that I was watching them, scrutinizing Miranda and looking out for any changes.
Finally, she seemed to no longer be able to contain herself and whispered into Phoebe’s ears, excusing herself.
“Alright, sure.” Phoebe dismissed her without any complaints, too focused on watching her husband who seemed as indifferent as always as he ate.

Hmph… What a tragic duo.
Anyway, Miranda scurried out of the dining room and headed out of the mansion, prompting me to follow behind her.
She proceeded to step out of the compound itself, looking around warily as if she were checking if anyone was following her.
Now that was suspicious.
Finally, she approached the part of the estate reserved for Elder Gita and her disciples, causing a frown to appear on my face.
“I knew it.” I blurted out loud as I sped towards her.
Before she could get anywhere near the area, I grabbed her by the shoulder, forcing her to turn around and look at me.
Her brows furrowed as she breathed out a relieved sigh. “Beta… Beta Negan. Forgive me, you startled me.” She bowed lightly.
However, I ignored that and asked in a calm tone, taking a step forward. “What are you doing in these parts of the estate at this time of the night? Don’t you know there are things out there that aren’t safe?”
I tilted my head, observing her reaction.
I’d made sure my tone was as suggestive as possible, and indeed, it brought out the desired reaction from her as she looked around awkwardly.
“I– I’m confused, sir.” She admitted, scratching the back of her head. “I was simply on my way to go see Elder Gita. I even took an excuse from Luna Phoebe and she was okay with it.”
Oh, the poor, naive thing.
Her seemingly innocent expression almost made me pity her.
Almost.
If I didn’t know any better, I would’ve believed that she was one of the good ones among the werewolves but she was living proof that there weren’t any ‘good’ ones.
For hell’s sake, she’d told a lie about Phoebe during the Moon Chosen ceremony just to save her own ass.
Sooner or later, even without my spell, she would’ve begun spreading those rumors on her own.
She didn’t deserve mercy, not in the slightest.
“You’ve been very naughty, Miranda.” I drawled, circling her now. “I’ve been watching you from a distance. Seeing how you spread gossip about people, not caring about their status or the impact of your words.”
Miranda gulped, lowering her head in shame.
But it was far too late for that.
“I– I’m sorry, sir.” She pleaded, still keeping her head bowed. “I know I haven’t been the best but I’m diligent in my work. P– please don’t get the Luna to fire me. I… I don’t know where the thought of those rumors I spread about you and the L–”
“Shhh.” I placed a finger on her lips, already getting bored of her ranting. “There’s no need for any of that. The truth is, I don’t care if you spread gossip about me. On the contrary, I want them to spread far and wide.”
She raised her head, confusion etched on her face.
Suddenly, without warning, when I was standing behind her, I punched my right hand forward, driving it through her chest and grabbing her heart.
She gasped, struggling to catch her breath as blood gushed out of her mouth like a fountain, the warm blood from the hole I made in her chest dripping down my arm.
“Unfortunately, I can’t let you reveal my true nature. So I have to let you go.” I sighed.
However, I felt absolute glee when I felt the way her body shook erratically, her life force slowing draining away like a dying candlelight.
