Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 59
Chapter 59: _Evil House
Phoebe

Who would’ve thought that a simple walk with Beta Negan would turn out to be one of the most conflicted moments I’ve ever experienced since I got to this mansion?
No, it wasn’t because he led us to the same garden where my affair with him started.
Rather, it was because of the shocking discovery we made while there.
“The Delta is after Kaene’s life,” I muttered to myself as I walked back to the mansion.
The discovery had left me mentally exhausted, prompting me to take an excuse from Negan.
To hell with Kaene’s idea of me meeting Negan for guidance in my role as Luna.
This meeting was doomed to have some underlying disaster from the onset… Delta Asher’s revelation was just the icing on the bloody cake.
Eventually, I got to the mansion’s compound but then heard footsteps behind me.
I glanced back only to spot Miranda walking fast toward me, a worried expression on her face.
“Ma’am? Are you okay?” She asked with a sincerely concerned tone. “You didn’t even bother taking the snacks I brought.”
She raised the tray in her hands so I could see it properly.
On the tray were several snacks comprising biscuits, cookies, and a frozen cup of yogurt.
They looked enticing but I waved my hand dismissively. “I told you I’ll eat those later, Miranda. I’m not in the mood right now.”
I felt like I was going to have a headache.
Negan and I had only discovered Asher’s plans to betray Kaene a few minutes ago but I was already feeling like with each passing second wasted, my mate’s life was more and more at risk.
Anyway, Miranda paused in her attempts to get me to eat something from the tray of snacks, lowering her head in shame.
I took note of this and sighed, walking up to her and picking out a delicious-looking cookie and eating it within a few seconds.
“There, are you happy?” I asked her with a slightly sarcastic tone after which we both bust into a peel of laughter.
My lips curled up into a smile.
At least I had something close to a friend to keep me company whenever Kaene went to work.
Anyway, after Miranda and I finished laughing, I turned my gaze to the entrance of the mansion.
My eyes trailed the building and its exterior architecture.
Here goes.

.
How had we gotten from all that to THIS?
At night, Kaene had taken me to a garden. A smile curled up his lips as he teased me and revealed that this was a surprise because of what happened at the Luna Ball last night
He even gave me a box containing a diamond necklace, but I didn’t open it or have the time to check it out.

Miranda…
It had all happened so quickly that I couldn’t even begin to comprehend what happened.
But eventually, everything began coming together and I remembered. From how My Kaene seemed to be getting agitated in the garden.
To the way the bloody body of Miranda fell off the tree and almost landed on me and Kaene, and then to how all those guards trooped into the garden to make sure Kaene and I were okay.
Who would dare threaten me by killing my maid?
“Luna?” The voice of Lyra, Kaene’s female assistant who he’d sent to follow me sounded beside me just then, forcing me to turn my gaze to her.
If I was being honest… I had been a little jealous of her at the beginning because of her closeness to Kaene.
Anyway, after getting my attention, Lyra continued after a little hesitation. “I know what you just witnessed was a really traumatic scene so forgive me for asking. Are you okay?”
Okay?
Heck no, I wasn’t okay!
Delta Asher was plotting against my husband. And then this attack on my maid.
A cold shiver went down my spine when I imagined if the two cases were related. Could Delta Asher be the same person who killed Miranda?
Anyway, instead of saying all this out loud, I plastered a smile on my face. “I’m going to be fine, Lyra. I’ll just need a little rest once I get inside the…”
I paused in my tracks when I realized that we’d been walking for so long that we finally got to the mansion.
The huge shadow of the building loomed over me as I stared at it.
However, unlike the awe I felt earlier today, my body was overwhelmed with dread when I saw the building and remembered that I live here.
How unfortunate was it to be living in one of the most evil houses on the planet?
Just then, Lyra chimed in with a calm voice. “If you need anything at all, you can let me know now, Luna.” She stated.
I almost saw her suggestion as kind… Until I realized she was simply carrying out her job.
“No, that’ll be all for now, Lyra. You can go back to the Alpha.” I waved at her dismissively, giving her a grateful smile.
She smiled and proceeded to leave the compound after a quick bow, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
I could only hope that Kaene and his Council found out the culprit behind this gruesome death tonight.
But the idea felt like wishful thinking, my hand combing through my hair as I burst open the doors leading into the grand foyer of the living room.
However, when I got into the living room, I was there just in time to witness a maid, Britany, being led out of the mansion by some guards.
Based on the stern expressions on the faces of the guards and the defeated look on the poor girl’s face, it seemed she’d done something wrong.
“Could she be connected to the killings?”I blurted out loud, my gaze following her and the guards as they left the mansion.
However, just when I continued walking, I almost bumped into Elsa who folded her arms in front of her chest with a frown on her face.
“What’s going on? Where’s Kaene?” She asked, her head stretching forward in search of him.
My fists clenched as I glared at her.
