Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 60
Chapter 60: _Thief!
Elsa’s eyes sparked with curiosity as she took a step closer to me, her voice oozing sarcasm. “So, Luna, tell me… what’s with all the ruckus tonight? Also, where did you and Kaene head off to?”
What sort of guts did Elsa Thatcher have?
After trying time and time again to piss me off—including by slicing me on my face earlier today—she still wanted to know more about me and Kaene?
My eyes narrowed, my mind racing through the events of the night again.
Yeah… I wasn’t about to share any of that with her.
“I’m tired, Elsa,” I uttered with a dismissive wave. “Can’t this wait?”
Elsa’s expression didn’t falter even though her eyes flashed with annoyance. “Oh, I think this is quite important, Luna,” she said, her voice firm. “After all, I’m just trying to make sure you’re safe.”
Safe?
Now I knew she was full of bullshit.
If anything, the girl wanted me in a grave buried six feet under.
I rolled my eyes, brushing past her to walk away.
However, Elsa did something unexpected. She snatched the box containing the diamond necklace out of my hands causing a gasp to escape my mouth.
But my face contorted with anger as I glared at her, making my way toward her.
“Give that back!” I yelled, stretching my hands forward.
But she was fast and annoying, evading me with ease while trying to open the box.
“Oh, relax!” She shot back with a mischievous chuckle, our voices echoing through the large living room. “What could be so special that you’re bent on h–”
She paused when she opened the box and her eyes fell on the necklace inside.
What the…?
My thoughts raced as I tried to process what was happening. Why was Elsa so interested in the content of the box?
Anyway, I witnessed the moment when Elsa realized what it was. Her eyes widened, her face becoming pale as she shook her head repeatedly.
“No… it can’t be,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “He wouldn’t… he couldn’t…”
My eyes narrowed, my mind racing with possibilities. What was going on? Why was Elsa so upset?
Suddenly, she raised her gaze to my face. “How can Kaene give such an expensive piece to a worthless animal like yourself?” she spat, her voice colder than ice. “What have you done to Kaene to make him so… So blinded?”
I felt a surge of anger at Elsa’s words, but I tried to keep my cool. “You’re just jealous,” I said, my voice firm. “Kaene gave me this necklace because he wants to, not because of anything I’ve done.”
Elsa’s eyes flashed with irritation, but she seemed to be enjoying this confrontation. “You really are clueless, aren’t you?” she sniggered. “Kaene doesn’t do anything without a reason. And if he’s giving you expensive gifts, it’s because he wants something from you.”
I rolled my eyes. “You don’t know what you’re talking about. Kaene and I are mates, Elsa. Something you’ll never understand.”
Elsa’s smile grew wider. “Oh, I understand perfectly,” she uttered. “You’re just a pawn in Kaene’s game, Phoebe. And soon, you’ll realize that.”
Just when it seemed like Elsa was about to continue her rant, a voice chimed in. “What’s going on here?”
I turned to see former Luna Catherine standing in the doorway. Her eyes were fixed on me, but then her gaze went to Elsa and the necklace in her hands.
Elsa’s smile faltered for a moment before she regained her composure. “Just discussing with our little Luna, Catherine.”

Oh, gosh… Just when I thought this night couldn’t get any worse.
I remembered an important detail just then. Kaene had told me this necklace used to belong to his mother when she was Luna.
What would be her reaction when she–
“That necklace…” Catherine pointed at the necklace in Elsa’s hands, her eyes widening with surprise. “Where did you get that from? I gave it to Kaene for when he…”
She trailed off, realization dawning on her face.
She turned her gaze to me just then, disbelief flickering through her eyes.
“… For when he finds his Luna.” She finished, her jaws clenched as she glared at me.
I knew it!
I told Kaene that giving me this necklace was a bad idea, but he didn’t listen.
Meanwhile, Elsa chimed in just then. “I was just as shocked as you are, Catherine. Who would’ve imagined that Kaene would stoop so low and do something like this?”
She turned her gaze to me, her eyes dimming. “Unless… She’s a thief! Phoebe probably stole the necklace from him.”
What in the blazes of thunderstorms?
Not able to contain my anger anymore, I charged at Elsa, struggling to get the necklace out of her grip.
But she was fierce, causing a tug of war to ensue between us because of the necklace.
As we fought for the stupid piece of jewelry, Catherine merely stood there, seemingly unbothered.
That was until the unexpected happened.
Removing one of my hands away from the necklace, I landed a slap across Elsa’s face, causing her to stumble backward.
However, in the process of doing that, she clutched the necklace for support, and it ended up cutting into several pieces.
Meanwhile, Elsa fell butt-first to the ground, groaning dramatically. “She… She destroyed the necklace! By the moon, do you know how much this piece is, you worthless trash!”
This couldn’t be happening. Someone wake me up from this nightmare right now!
My heart dropped as my gaze fell on the scattered pieces of the diamond necklace littered on the marble floor.
I squatted, picking them up as fast as possible, not even bothering to pay any attention to Elsa.
But the bitch just wouldn’t give up.
“Just wait until Kaene hears of this.” She snapped with a malicious grin on her face as she got up. “You’ll learn how to curb that anger of yours soon enough!”
Without another word, she stormed out of the living room, walking out of the Mansion and hitting the doors behind her with a bang.
As for former Luna Catherine, she gazed at me with scrutinizing eyes.
