Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 68
Chapter 68: _Bomb Set To Explode
When the knock sounded on Phoebe’s door, Kaene glanced at her one last time before letting go of her hand.
He merely walked to the bed and grabbed his underwear, slipping into it before walking up to the door and opening it.
I could pick up the sound of a feminine voice, but by now, I was already bored beyond my wits.
I scaled down the walls, landing on the ground gracefully before dusting my hands.
“If Catherine shows him the video soon, things are going to be much more dramatic in this mansion and, indeed, the entire pack,” I said to myself after slipping out of the compound into the night.
The rain had stopped by now but lightning still flashed in the clouds once in a while, illuminating the night.
What happens next now falls into the hands of the former Luna.
It’s time for Act Two of the play.
.
.
The following days were filled with tension for the members of the Alpha Council, particularly the Gamma.
Due to Miranda’s case, he had no choice but to pull out from the diplomatic missions we were having with other packs who attended the Luna Ball.
However, we’d already gotten back the trust of most of them except for a few… Like Crescent Moon.
But I didn’t put much focus on that, instead taking my time relaxing while waiting for the ticking time bomb called ‘Catherine’ to blow up.
Three days after Miranda’s ‘unfortunate’ death, I sat in the office of my private residence in the early hours of the afternoon, bored.
I was currently going through some documents from my company that I needed to sort out before the end of the day.
Being the CEO meant I didn’t have to go there much, but it also meant that I had to step in once in a while to make sure the idiots I left in charge didn’t bring me to ruin.
Anyway, just when I was about to place my signature on one of the documents, a knock sounded at my door.
“Come in,” I stated absentmindedly, placing my attention on the documents.
The door opened slightly, after which Rowland peeped his head in.
I raised my head away from the documents, arching an inquisitive eyebrow.
“Former Luna Catherine is here to see you, sir.” He announced formally.
Oh?
I quickly adjusted my sitting position before gesturing at him. “Alright then, let her in.”
Rowland nodded and opened the door wide, giving way for the baddest bitch of the west herself.
Catherine walked in confidently, wearing a red velvet gown and also having bright red lipstick to match.
A smile was plastered on my face as I got up, stretching my hand forward to greet her.
“Catherine, it’s so nice to see you. How’ve you been?” I asked, doing a great job at pretending to give a fuck.
She bought my facade perfectly, her lips curling into a smile as well as she shook my hand. “Why, I’ve been good, Beta Negan. I can see you’re busy. Don’t worry, this is going to be a quick visit.”
I squinted my eyes, glancing back at Rowland who seemed just as clueless as I was.

But I eventually shrugged, gesturing for her to have a seat.
When we were both seated, I asked curiously. “So, what brings you here?”
Her eyes lit up as she began looking through her purse.
I glanced at Rowland again, noticing the amused smirk on his face.
But he didn’t dare say anything from where he stood, instead glancing at us discreetly.
“There it is.” Catherine suddenly uttered, drawing out an envelope and handing it over to me. “I’m sorry the invitation is coming late. I’ve been planning it out after getting permission from Kaene.”
I tore open the envelope before reading through the content of the letter within.
My brows knitted in surprise when I was done. “Oh, a noble party?” I raised my head.
She nodded, her smile widening. “Not just any noble party, Beta Negan. It’s going to be for a good cause. A charity event where sophisticated jewelry pieces from all over the world will be displayed with all the high-class members of our pack in attendance. And the venue is the Alpha mansion.”
I felt the urge to scoff in her face but held myself.
Instead, I nodded my head, waiting for her to continue.
“The profit made from the auction will be donated to the low-class members of our pack who need it.” She added, clutching her chest with a dramatic sigh. “I see the suffering of most of our people, Negan. And I’m touched. Phoebe becoming Luna has given me a fresh perspective.”
Yeah… Right.
She was almost convincing, but I’ll believe her story when vampires started drinking wine instead of blood.
I glanced at Rowland who seemed impressed, his eyes glinting with mischief.
But I didn’t have any plans to disrupt this party. At least… Not yet anyway.
“I can see it’s scheduled for tonight,” I observed, glancing at the invitation letter again. “It’s a smart move, Catherine. This way, other packs can learn from our example and do similar work for their people.”
Catherine nodded, her smile turning into a grin. “Exactly! You get it, Beta Negan. And best of all, I have a surprise in store for everyone. It’s taken a lot of planning but I can’t wait for you to see it.”
I arched an eyebrow, even though I still managed to seem like I was invested in this.
Truth was, I could already see right through her deception and knew what this was about.
Unknowingly to her, I was always one step ahead.
“What kind of surprise, Catherine? Come on, give me a glimpse.” I winked, teasing her.
She chuckled, standing up just then before patting me lightly on my cheeks. “Oh, don’t worry, Negan. The wait is going to be worth it, trust me.”
I pretended like I was clueless, getting up as well to escort her to the door. “I trust you, Catherine. Thanks for the invite, I’ll wear my best suit.”
We laughed for a few more seconds and I couldn’t help but notice the subtle glance she gave Rowland.
If I didn’t know about her ‘bribing’ him to drug Phoebe and me with that aphrodisiac that night, I probably wouldn’t have thought much about it.
Anyway, when she finally left, I turned my gaze to Rowland. “Looks like the bomb is set to explode after all.”
