Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 70
Chapter 70: _Classless Mate
Kaene
~~
Elder Gita’s words from earlier that night rang in my head as a reminder of how severe the situation surrounding Miranda’s death was.
“Someone placed a spell on that girl.”
So, did that mean a witch killed her?
Elder Gita had said it was unlikely since the spell was placed on her days before her death.
But then again… What if the witch had cast a spell on her for whatever reason and then decided to kill her?
These things disturbed my mind but nothing would’ve prepared me for the drama that was waiting for me at the Alpha mansion.
“Phoebe stole your mother’s blue Luna necklace.” Elsa had come to the scene of the crime, dragged me aside, and reported it to me.
She held onto her face, pouting dramatically as I glanced back at the Alpha council members and Elder Gita who all stared at us curiously while murmuring to themselves.
Argh, this girl was drawing unnecessary attention to me for nothing!
“I gave her that necklace, Elsa,” I uttered with disdain, glaring at her. “Don’t tell me you came all the way to irk me because of some petty squabble you had with my wife. With your Luna.”
She gawked at me, blinking speechlessly.
“You gave her that necklace?” She repeated with disbelief. “It’s worth tens of millions! How could you–”
“Because I’m the Alpha, Elsa.” I blurted plainly, already getting bored of the interaction. “And now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m in the middle of performing my duty as Alpha.”
I glanced back at the Alpha council members.
Beta Negan and Delta Asher seemed to be arguing over something but I couldn’t hear what it was from this distance.
Anyway, I turned around, about to leave, when Elsa grabbed my wrist, forcing me to turn my gaze to her.
I eyed her from her head to her toes, feeling irritated by the desperation in her eyes.
“Your desperation is irritating. You know that, right?” I spoke out loud, my lips drawing into thin lines.
But she didn’t back down, stepping closer to me. “I didn’t want to say anything but… Phoebe destroyed the necklace.”
My eyes shone in shock. What the heck was she talking about?
I gave Phoebe that necklace a few minutes ago. How possible was it for her to destroy it so soon?
Elsa seemed to have noticed my growing interest in her words and became more confident, wrapping her hand around my arm. “That’s right, Kaene, she did. I was only trying to check it out because I was surprised that you gave it to her. But then she angrily clawed it out from me and proceeded to…”
She sniffled, holding her face just then.
My brows knitted into a frown as I slowly slipped my arm away from her hold. “What else did she do? Speak up, damn it!”
My frustration was reaching an all-time high.
What was my mother thinking when she brought this girl into our lives?
“… She slapped me, Kaene. In the presence of your mother too.” She sobbed.
But I wasn’t buying her crocodile tears.

Instead, I felt rage simmering from my chest.
How could Phoebe be clumsy enough to destroy such a priceless piece of jewelry?
“She doesn’t know what true anger is…” I muttered to myself before walking back to the Alpha council members and dismissing them and the other maid, Brittany.
.
.
When I got to the mansion, an argument ensued between Phoebe and I.
In the process, she ended up slapping me, but for an odd reason that turned me on.
My wolf howled wildly in my head, compelling me to dominate our feisty mate.
Eventually, I did just that and led her upstairs where we had one of the wildest sex ever.
I made sure she screamed like a slut as I thrust my frustrations into her, but all the noise was drowned out by the thunderstorm outside.
When we were finished, however, we had yet another argument.
But this time, it was about my good friend Beta Negan.
“People are talking, Phoebe. And in case you haven’t been hearing, they’ve been talking about you and Negan.”
Saying I was getting jealous of all the rumors I heard about Phoebe and my best friend was an understatement.
To be honest, when I sent her to him, I was troubled at work because I kept thinking about the possibility of them betraying me.
I didn’t take lightly the idea of sharing my mate with another, regardless of whether I’d originally rejected her.
Talk less of if the person I was potentially sharing her with happened to be my best friend.
Anyway, at one point, Phoebe couldn’t handle my questions anymore and was about to storm out.
However, a knock sounded at the door just then, forcing me to glance at Phoebe one last time before I slipped into my underwear and walked up to the door, opening it.
To my surprise, it was my mother’s face I saw, a sweet smile on her face.
“Oh, Kaene…” She clasped her hands in front of her chest with a cheery tone. “I figured you and your mate must be here at her suite… Spending some alone time.”
My face heated up with an embarrassed blush as I glanced back into the room where Phoebe was standing with her arms folded in front of her chest.
I sighed, stepping out to talk to my mother. A lightning strike from the thunderstorm outside illuminated her face in the dimly lit hallway.
“Mom, I’m busy. If you’re about to tell me about the necklace that Phoebe destroyed, there’s no need. I–” I was about to tell her about how I planned to repair the jewelry but she waved her hands in front of her face.
“Oh, no, no, no. That’s not why I’m here.” She shook her head. “I must admit, I was distraught when I witnessed your mate destroy a piece of jewelry that has been passed down in our family for decades. But I’m over it now.”
Now THAT was suspicious.
“You? Over that?” I repeated, shaking my head with disbelief. “Mom, quit messing around. What’s this about?”
I’d be damned before I believed for one second that my mother was capable of letting go of such a serious situation so easily, especially since it involved Phoebe of all people.
But it seemed she found my disbelief offensive, her brows snapping into a frown. “Why can’t you believe my words? I’m telling you, I don’t care about the necklace anymore. It’s not your mate’s fault that she’s classless and doesn’t know the value of things.”
Sigh… That was much better now.
“Anyway, I’m here to discuss a party I have in mind.” She announced with a broad smile on her face.
A party?
An important heirloom of our family was just destroyed, and her next thought was to throw a party?
