Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 75
Chapter 75: _Give Him Space
Phoebe
~~
After a steamy night, Kaene just had to ruin the mood by asking unnecessary questions about me and Beta Negan.
He even talked about all the rumors flying around and couldn’t defend himself when I asked him if he believed those rumors.
And then, to make matters worse, his mother came and told him about a party she had planned for three days from now.
“Ugh, another party?” I grumbled to myself when Kaene finally fell asleep beside me.
Something was up… I could feel it.
I knew it was normal for werewolf packs to throw these parties but this one just had a ton of red flags.
First off, the party was supposed to be an auction for jewelry.
JEWELRY!
Why was it that of all the themes former Luna Catherine could pick, she picked that one, especially after I supposedly destroyed that necklace Kaene gave me?
I’ll have to keep my eyes out on the day of the party.
Beta Negan’s warning before the Luna Ball still rang clearly in my head.
The way he’d told me to avoid any food prepared by Catherine or Elsa, and then that whole poison saga happened at the Ball was suspicious as hell.
I couldn’t voice out my suspicions, of course, but I knew I had to watch my back with those two.
“Let’s see how it goes.” I shrugged, my eyes already getting lazy as I snuggled up closer to Kaene.
.
.
News flash… It went TERRIBLY!
I knew it!
By the moon, I knew there was something off about this party.
When the lights went out, and the projection screen blinked to life, showing a video of Negan and me in the garden that other night, my heart sank.
Now, all the elites knew I was nothing but a no-good cheater.
And to make matters worse, Kaene made a harsh declaration.
“I reject you, Phoebe Skywalker once again as my mate. You can keep being the moon’s Chosen for all I care, but you and I… We’re done!”
I felt like my whole world was falling apart, hot tears pricking my eyes when Kaene eventually left the room.
My wolf was in pain, howling, and struggling to come to terms with the rejection.
Being rejected by your mate two times was devastating.
“Hey, are you okay?” Negan walked up to me just then, placing a hand on my shoulder.
I was tempted to snap at him but all I could do was break down in tears while trying to stay away from him.

“Negan, please, not now. This was a mistake.” I shook my head repeatedly, clutching my chest to deal with the pain. “This has always been a mistake.”
Just then, I caught Catherine rushing down from the makeshift stage. She shot me one disdainful stare, a mocking smirk curling up her lips.
“She’s… She’s known about us all this time?” I muttered in disbelief as I watched her leave the room and head upstairs, following after her son.
Elsa Thatcher also scurried after former Luna Catherine, a victorious grin on her face as the crowd of gathered elites began exiting the room.
“What a disgrace to all Lunas past and present!” A female werewolf spat on my face as she walked past us, but for once, I didn’t have any anger in me.
“He should be stripped of his Beta position!” A male werewolf pointed at Negan and growled.
“Didn’t you watch the video? The Luna is the one who threw herself at him like a slut! She should be the one banished out of our pack.” A female werewolf screeched.
Hurtful words like these erupted from all over the large room as they walked out.
However, they didn’t dare voice their opinions outside to avoid incurring Kaene’s wrath.
He’d warned them clearly that news of what they saw tonight shouldn’t go outside for any reason.
Anyway, after all the elites had left the room, Negan and I were the only ones left.
We stood there silently for several seconds until I heard a sniffle from Negan and remembered just then that Kaene punched him in the face.
“Is it still bleeding?” I asked, using my fingers to trail his mouth which was red with blood.
But he held my wrist, stopping me. “I’ll… I’ll be fine, honey. It’s just a little blood.”
I stared at him with worry for a while but eventually tore my gaze away from him.
“Now, what?” I mumbled, fiddling nervously with my fingers.
The mask on my face was getting annoyingly itchy at this point so I took it off, blowing aside my hair with my hands as I did.
I felt like shit.
There was no way I could ever face Kaene again after everything that happened.
“Maybe this is a sign that we aren’t meant to be together.” I drawled miserably.
It was then that Negan spoke up. “You got that ‘sign’ from you cheating on him?”
Ouch.
“I don’t know, Negan. I don’t know…” I sighed, brushing my hands through my hair before sitting down. “Gosh, I was such an idiot.”
“Hey!” Negan suddenly yelled out, taking me by surprise. “I resent that. You’re not an idiot because of one stupid mistake that we’re both guilty of.”
I smiled weakly, looking away from him.
The large living room was empty as even the staff members had scurried away in fear for their lives after Kaene’s threat.
Negan took the opportunity to sit beside me, placing a hand on my shoulder. My body jolted at first as I was hesitant to be touched by him in any way.
But then I eventually calmed down and turned to look at him.
“We just have to be patient with Kaene. Give him time and space to process everything.” He remarked with certainty. “Our respective relationship with him will never be the same, trust me on that. But how much space and kindness we give him will determine if we’ll come out of this with a stronger relationship with him or a shitty one.”
Gosh, he was so sweet.
I couldn’t help myself from holding on to his hand on my shoulder, smiling with gratitude. “Thank you, Negan. You’ve always been so…”
I trailed off when I remembered something.
Delta Asher was still plotting against Kaene’s life and now the two people who knew about it couldn’t do anything to stop him.
“Shit.”
