Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 76
Chapter 76: _Watch His Back
Negan furrowed his brows as I got up, brushing my hands through my hair.
“This is bad,” I muttered before kicking the chair nearby. “Goddess, this is bad!”
Negan got up as well just then, sounding worried. “What’s wrong?”
I turned my gaze to him. “We have to warn Kaene about the Delta’s plot against him. He’s vulnerable right now, at least emotionally. Anyone can take advantage of that and take him off guard.”
I believed Kaene could protect himself in a direct attack and was very cautious, but right now he doesn’t seem to be in the best state of mind.
And to think that that was my fault made me shiver with dread.
“Like I told you before, Phoebe, we have to approach this with caution.” Negan tried reasoning with me. “The Delta is a dangerous man with an even more dangerous man supporting him. There’s no telling how easily he could manipulate the facts you give to Kaene against you.”
I arched an eyebrow, my face getting heated with frustration. “Then what are we supposed to do, Negan? Sit back and watch him get killed?” I hollered.
The whole situation was getting me worked up in ways I couldn’t explain.
Kaene didn’t deserve this. He didn’t deserve to be betrayed by so many people.
“Hey, relax, okay?” Negan placed both hands on my shoulders just then, forcing me to look into his eyes. “You have to relax for me, okay? You have to relax for Kaene.”
For Kaene…
My eyes steeled with renewed resolve as I nodded, drawing in a deep breath.
“All we have to do is spy on Asher and gather as much evidence against him as possible.” Negan blurted. “Once we have enough evidence, then we can confidently meet Kaene.”
I nodded, my shoulders relaxing a bit just then.
However, just when my lips parted to say something, a voice spoke up with a chuckle that echoed around the living room, sending shivers down my spine.
“Well, well, well…” It was none other than Delta Asher who walked with his head raised high, his gaze fixed on us in a nauseating mix of disdain and amusement. “Look what we have here. The traitors plotting how to bring down a traitor.”
He laughed again, holding on to his stomach.
How much had he heard?
“You can’t get away with this, Asher.” I spat with gritted teeth.
But his face soon became stoic as he shrugged. “I honestly don’t know what you’re talking about, Luna. But I can assure you that I understand your plight.”
Understand my plight?
“You understand nothing, you asshole!” I snapped, stepping forward despite Negan’s efforts to hold me back. “You don’t understand how it felt to watch you and the other Alpha Council members look down on me. You don’t know how it feels to be a mere ‘peasant’ girl working hard to make sure her family survives.”
I felt an unexplainable surge of rage coursing through my body and even my wolf was itching to come out for the first time in a long time.
She’d always mirrored my anger. My violent side.
Keeping her under control while facing imbeciles like the Delta was a daily struggle that I, unfortunately, had to contend with.
But I’ll give anything to let her loose for once on him.
“I don’t know how it feels to work hard? Are you sure about that, little she-wolf?” The Delta uttered coldly, dropping any facade of respect he’d shown just now. “I worked hard to get where I am right now. I was never meant to be the Delta, but because of my hard work and resilience, the Alpha, who you so shamelessly betrayed, appointed me.”
I gritted my teeth but remained silent, resorting to glaring at the bastard instead.
“I don’t know what you and the Beta are trying to accomplish by accusing me of something I have no business doing, but I’ll ignore you.” He finalized. “I know you must be desperate to get all that attention away from you after the drama and all the things revealed tonight. But honestly, this is just sad.”

He stared at us for a few more seconds, a slight smirk curling up the corner of his lips.
Was that supposed to be subtle?
Irritating me even further, he added. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, some people here actually care about the Alpha and want to make sure he’s doing fine in these hard times.” He placed both his hands on his chest with a dramatic sigh.
Without another word, he walked past us and headed for the stairs without even glancing back.
“Add him to my list of people I’ll wish to kill.” Negan suddenly muttered, almost causing me to giggle.
I turned my gaze to him, genuinely curious. “Oh, yeah? Who else is on that list?”
He paused, not even bothering to look at me before he responded. “Oh, you don’t want to know, love.”
For an odd reason, my body shivered with fear when he said that.
Also, ‘love’?
Ugh, bad timing, Negan!
“Anyway, the Delta knows that we’re aware of his plan. Meaning, spying on him might not be much of an option anymore.” Negan said solemnly.
As annoying as it was, I knew he was right. The Delta would definitely be on the lookout just in case.
And if that happened, there was no telling what lengths he’d go to to clear his tracks.
He might probably implicate Negan and me, making our already messed up situation worse.
“What then can we do?” I asked, feeling helpless.
Negan seemed uncertain at first but then shrugged. “It’s going to be hard but I guess this means we’ll have to keep an eye on Kaene instead. That way we can make sure no harm befalls him. Then, if the Delta slips up after we stop him, we’ll have evidence to give Kaene.”
Easier said than done…
I had no choice but to stick with Negan’s plan, since I didn’t have one.
The coming days are going to be extra tough.
