Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 79
Chapter 79: _Catching Up
My eyes lit up as I kept aside what was left of the shawarma before speaking.
“Wait, really?” I queried with a full mouth, placing my hand in front of my face as soon as I did.
Negan looked at me awkwardly, causing my face to heat up with a blush.
“Pardon my manners,” I mumbled, finding it hard to keep eye contact.
However, he waved his hand dismissively. “It’s fine. Anyway, about the Delta. I sent one of my best men to spy on him and let’s just say he was able to uncover something.”
Gosh, yeah I know that already!
Could he just go to the part where he tells me what he found out about the Delta?
Maybe it was the hunger or the pent-up frustration I still had, thanks to my encounter with Elsa this morning. Or both.
But I was super anxious and tapped my fingers on my lap impatiently.
It seemed Negan noticed this but decisively didn’t say anything about it, instead continuing with the information he was giving me.
“The Delta has been secretly meeting with Mr. Thatcher for a while now. At his private residence.” He revealed.
What?
I knew Elsa’s father was the Delta’s supporter but I never thought he’d be in on his plans against Kaene.
“Do you guys know why they’re meeting?” I asked, my interest piqued.
Unfortunately, Negan shook his head. “No, but the nature of their meetings is far too suspicious to ignore. Mr Thatcher seems to carry around more guards in his residence than usual and they meet mostly at night.”
Why did it sound like Negan had been sending this ‘best man’ of his to spy on the Delta for a while?
I tilted my head curiously but it seemed he already knew the question in my head.
“I was already sending my associate to spy on the Delta before we overheard his sketchy phone call that morning. But it was for unrelated reasons.” He sounded pretty vague at the end.
However, I chose not to pry any further, instead thinking hard about the main issue.
“Do you think… Elsa could be in on whatever plans they have?” I was forced to ask, whispering as if I was expecting the bitch to burst into the room at any second.
But Negan shrugged. “Beats me. That seems unlikely to me, though. She seems too fixated on getting under the Alpha’s pants instead.”
My jaw clenched in annoyance just then but I tried to hide it. Negan’s words had struck a chord.
It seemed he realized that as he quickly apologized. “Sorry, that was insensitive of me to say. Especially after the recent drama we’re going through.”
I merely smiled at him but then became silent.
What if, now that Kaene had found out about my infidelity, he decided to have some payback by accepting Elsa’s advances?
What if he chases me out of the mansion or worse… Banishes me and my family?
In the book of the pack’s history that I’d been reading earlier, I didn’t see any mention of a past Luna cheating on the Alpha.
There were mentions of some Alphas having mistresses outside their marriages though. But this was open knowledge to the public back then.
Being the first Luna to cheat didn’t sit well with me. I didn’t want to be known for that.
“Phoebe?” Negan called my attention with a soft voice just then, leaning closer from where he sat on the bed. “I know with everything that has happened it’s kinda inappropriate to ask. But are you okay?”

I sighed, rubbing the bridge of my nose. “Well, obviously, I’m not fine. I’ve been thinking of visiting my parents… I don’t know if I ever told you about them.” I remarked.
Negan shook his head. “I know of your rebellious younger brother but you never told me about them. How are they?”
I felt a surge of guilt overwhelm me.
Ever since I became Luna, I was so busy with pack politics and the drama from Kaene’s mother and Elsa that I didn’t have the chance to visit my family once.
Apart from calling my brother, Caleb, a few times, I hadn’t heard from my family in almost a month.
“Well, last I heard from them, my father was left badly injured from the last Hunter attack on our pack. And then my mother fell sick soon after.” I revealed with a dejected tone. “My father was recovering from his wounds before I left though… But still.”
Negan nodded his understanding, placing a palm on my hands. I jolted at his touch but soon relaxed as I raised my head to stare into his hazel eyes.
“I understand. The Hunter attacks have affected all of us.” He smiled wryly. “And to think even after everything, our elites are so fixated on power plays and throwing meaningless parties. It’s such a shame.”
Exactly!
Gosh, it was so annoying and the worst part was the fact that even as Luna, I felt so powerless to change anything.
Even more so now that it seems my position is threatened.
“Anyway, I’ll advise you to go see them,” Negan said all of a sudden. “Family is everything after all. It’s not as if anyone would want to hold you back here after everything.”
I smiled bitterly but he was right.
Kaene and the others would have no choice but to let me go see my parents. I wasn’t a prisoner anyway.
“Thanks for listening to my rant, kind Beta.” I stood up and bowed slightly, trying to tease him.
He chuckled, getting up as well. “And thank you for having lunch with me, charming Luna. I hope to have more of this some time.” He stated casually.
However, after he said that, my heart skipped a beat as I stared into his hazel eyes, blinking as I tried to catch my breath.
Dear moon goddess, he shouldn’t have this effect on me when I have a mate!
It seemed the Beta was just as transfixed as I was as he took a step forward.
What was he doing?
My mouth parted as I was about to say something but then a knock sounded at the door, causing my heart to jump into my throat.
