Chapter 84: _Tension From The Brotherhood
“I understand your concerns, Matty boy,” I smirked, patting the old man on his cheeks. “But trust me when I say I have everything under control.”
Indeed, I did understand his agitation.
Lord Mathias was one of the Hybrid Elders backing our organization and had lived for centuries.
One of the oldest part werewolf–part witch on the planet, he’d been my mentor when I joined the ‘Brotherhood Of The Cursed Moon’ when I was just a teen.
He was also the man responsible for ensuring I got a place as the Beta of the Blue Moon pack, even though my father cast me out and denied me my rights as his only child.
Anyway, Mathias wasn’t still convinced, swatting my hand from his face. “You see, the problem with you is that you take everything as a joke, Negan.” He snapped. “We don’t have time on our side. The Hunter attacks are becoming more persistent, and hybrids like us are at risk, just like other supernaturals. We have to secure our place as the superior race soon.”
I rolled my eyes, stepping away from him. “Listen, Mathias. As much as I’d love to stay back and listen to your lectures, I have places to be. So, if you wouldn’t mind.”
I stared at him expectantly, waiting for him to step out of my way. But he didn’t budge, instead glaring at me with gritted teeth.
Suddenly, thunder rumbled in the sky, forcing me to raise my head.
There hadn’t been any signs of rain a few seconds ago but now Lord Mathias was here.
It was clear to me that his anger and magic were behind the turbulence in the skies, but I stood my ground, watching his tantrum.
“I helped you climb the ranks to become our Brotherhood’s leader, Negan.” He reminded me with a cold tone. “And don’t forget I can take that position from you just as easily.”
It was my turn to get mad now.
I took a step forward, the wind picking up speed as I did.
The combined might of my magic clashing with that of the old man’s caused the white clouds in the sky to darken instantly, the lightning and thunder only increasing in intensity.
It seemed Mathias was under some kind of invisibility spell, explaining why he was able to show up to me without hiding within the estate.
Anyway, there was a stare-off between the two of us before I blurted coldly. “It seems you’ve forgotten the packs I’ve brought down before this one, Matty boy. There will be no difference with this one. It shall fall like the rest, so I advise you and the others to exercise a little more patience.”
He glared at me for a few more seconds before withdrawing his magic back to himself.
I did the same, sighing a bit.
A fight between the two of us would’ve been fun, but then my cover would have been blown.
“Unfortunately, Negan, patience is one thing we can’t afford any more of.” Lord Mathias stated, his tone leaving no room for rebuttal. “Good luck with your mission. But just know, drastic measures might have to be taken if you waste too much time.”
Without another word, he turned his back against me, holding on to his staff tightly as he did.
He waved his hand simply in the air, causing him to teleport out of my sight.
At this point, the sky had already relaxed, the wind and lightning ceasing completely.
But now there was tension in my chest as I gritted my teeth.
“Shit…”
I brushed my hand through my hair, pacing around a bit.
Those bastards in the Brotherhood would be the death of me.
I managed to get Mathias’ warning out of my thoughts briefly as I continued walking toward my private residence.
My position as leader of the Brotherhood had always been threatened since the first day I was appointed.

But this new development would make things a bit difficult now.
Everyone had their eyes on me in that organization. If they thought for one second that I wasn’t worthy of being their leader, they’d fight to ensure I was replaced.
“It seems I’ll have to visit them soon. They’ve all forgotten how ruthless I can be, even with my own kind.” I said to myself coldly when I finally got inside my private residence.
I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of whiskey, pouring myself a little and taking a sip from the glass.
I wasn’t going to get myself drunk like dear old Kaene, but I needed a little unwinding.
I walked to the mini bar close to the kitchen entrance and sat there, resting my arms and enjoying the soothing quiet in my residence.
No maids, no guards… Just me on my own here. Well, me and–
“Drinking without me, master Negan?” An annoying and all too familiar voice spoke up from beside me just then.
Perfect timing…
“Rowland.” I turned my gaze to my comrade who had a smirk on his face. “Any news about the Delta?”
However, he arched an eyebrow, seemingly a bit concerned. “What happened? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” He remarked.
I couldn’t help myself from chuckling, taking another sip from my drink before muttering. “Yeah, something like that.”
He kept his gaze on me, expecting an explanation.
I hesitated at first but then decisively confided in him, sharing my encounter with Lord Mathias.
“That guy has always been a stuck-up asshole.” He sniggered, folding his arms in front of his chest.
I nodded, smirking slightly to myself.
However, Rowland’s next words wiped that smirk right off my face.
“He does have a point though, Negan.”
I glanced at him, dimming my eyes. “You question my leadership as well, Rowland?”
My tone was calm but I didn’t make any effort in hiding the iciness behind it.
But Rowland merely smirked, shaking his head. “Of course not, master Negan. I’m just trying to point out that you’ve been seeming a bit… Distracted recently.”
Distracted?
I tilted my head, not bothering to speak as I waited for him to elaborate.
And he did just that, playing with his nails before casually speaking. “You’ve been distracted ever since SHE showed up.”
