Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 85
Chapter 85: _What Has She Done?
Kaene
~~
Crushed. Angry. Humiliated.
The rage burning inside me after finding out about Phoebe’s infidelity in such a dramatic way was almost crippling.
I’d finished an entire bottle of whiskey on my suite’s balcony and was about to fling it away when a feminine voice spoke up from behind me.
“Drink anymore and I fear you might explode from all the alcohol.”
I slowly lowered the bottle, glancing back to see my mother standing with a wry smile on her face.
She walked toward me, placing a hand on my shoulder when she got to the balcony. “I know you’re hurting son. But, letting yourself fall so low because of that… Slut, wouldn’t help in any way.”
I rolled my eyes, looking away from her. “Mother, if this is another lecture from you on how I should banish Phoebe or whatever, I don’t want to hear it. It’s over. We’re over. I don’t care what happens to her.” I said matter of factly.
However, deep down I didn’t believe my own words. Deep down, as angry as I was, I did care.
My wolf was still deeply pained by the whole thing and howled dejectedly even now, but I couldn’t let his emotions overwhelm me.
I’m the Alpha, showing weakness isn’t exactly my specialty.
“Oh, I don’t even think you believe your words, Kaene.” My mother had a knowing look on her face. “The bond between an Alpha and his mate is something you can’t break. It’s meant to be unbreakable, that’s the whole point.”
Well, was that supposed to make me feel better?
“Mother, what are you trying to say?” I queried with a sigh.
She tightened her grip slightly on my shoulder, forcing me to turn my gaze to her.
“The bond can only be broken if Phoebe dies, Kaene.” She muttered coldly.
My heart clenched as I looked away from her. She couldn’t be seriously suggesting what I thought she was, right?
“Phoebe and Negan have served you the biggest betrayal, Kaene.” She stepped away from me, staring at the night sky and holding the railing of the balcony. “What are you, the Alpha of one of the most prestigious packs on the planet, going to do about it? Stand there and roll in self-pity and agony?”
I closed my eyes, gritting my teeth as her words began sinking into my head.
But my mother wasn’t done, placing her hand on mine. “… Or are you going to show everyone watching the consequences of betraying you?”
Something stirred in me when I heard her words.
From the first day I laid my eyes on her, I knew Phoebe would cause me trouble. And now that it’s been brought to light, I was the one suffering the sting.
No.
There has to be a change.
Just then, my mother cleared her throat. “Anyway, I’ll leave you to think about my words.”
She placed her hand on my shoulder one last time before walking away, her stiletto heels echoing on the tiles of my suite.
I clenched my fists when I heard the door of my suite close shut.
What’s it going to be?

After having one drink too many, I stumbled out of my suite in the middle of the night, waltzing through the hallway with a clear destination in mind.
The staff and everyone else in the mansion were asleep so I used that to my advantage, getting to the front of Phoebe’s suite.
Luckily, the door wasn’t locked from the inside so I was about to open it when I heard moaning coming out of the suite.
My heart clenched like someone was squeezing it, but the anger inside outweighed whatever hurt I had.
Was she… Were she and Negan at it again?
I swung the door open just when the moaning stopped, stepping inside with cold eyes.
My gaze immediately landed on Phoebe’s body on the bed, causing my heart to race. The room was dark but I could still make out the shape of her form.
And to think that Negan touched her just like I’ve been doing for weeks was more than a slap on the face.
She’s mine!
I had my mark on her and our union was made known under the light of the moon during the Moon’s Chosen ceremony.
My mother’s words rang in my head just then, causing my heart to harden as I walked up to Phoebe’s bed, standing beside her body.
I slowly patted her hair away from her face, my gaze trailing her body from her legs to her lips.
All I could see now was the image of Negan kissing those lips. Worst of all, SHE threw herself at him!
The tension in the room became palpable as I grabbed a pillow, raising it above her head.
She has to die. It’s the only way the pain I felt thanks to this stupid mate bond would disappear.
I didn’t have the heart to send a killer after her and since that would make me a coward, I might as well do it myself, right?
However, as I stared at her face and was about to drop the pillow on it, my hands shook.
I gritted my teeth, angry at myself for not being able to go through with it.
“What have you done to me?” I whispered after burying my face into the pillow.
Giving up, I flung the pillow away, gazing at Phoebe one last time.
She seemed to be having a peaceful sleep and even had a slight smirk on her face.
“At least one of us is having some rest,” I muttered bitterly before turning away from her.
Once I’d left the suite, I clenched my fists and ended up punching the wall in front of me.
I needed to sleep somehow.
Brushing my hand through my hair, I sighed and headed to my suite.
However, when I got to the door and pushed it open, I was stunned to see the person inside.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
