Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 87
Chapter 87: _Someone Has To Pay
Lyra shook in fear when I fixed my gaze on her.
The poor lady was probably not at fault here, but I gave direct orders to every noble present that night.
None of them had any business leaking out information about Phoebe’s affair to the public, talk less of the staff members of the mansion.
Someone had to pay.
“When you say everyone in the mansion is talking about it, what do you mean?” I queried, dressing up without bathing.
I probably looked like a hot mess right now, considering that I slept drunk last night, but I didn’t care.
“Sir, don’t you think you need some–” Lyra was probably about to suggest I take a bath or something of the sort, but one glare from me made her swallow her words.
She gulped, staring down at her feet. “My apologies, Alpha. Regarding your question, I heard some maids talking about it. They didn’t even try being discreet about it. I also overheard some guards at the entrance to the mansion but they tried pretending like they weren’t saying anything when they saw me.”
She made a pause, seeming hesitant to say more.
“Well? Is there anything else you’re leaving out?” I asked impatiently, crossing my arms in front of my chest.
Finally, after a few more seconds, she nodded. “Elsa Thatcher, sir. I overheard her talking about it to someone on the phone. She’s the one who mentioned that it’s already common knowledge to the general public so she could talk about it.”
Moon goddess, have mercy!
Of course, it just HAD to be Elsa.
Not bothering to say anything else to Lyra, I stormed out of the suite, heading straight for my mother’s quarters.
However, on my way, I spotted two maids discussing with lowered voices.
“Now the Luna’s fondness for the Beta makes more sense.” One of them muttered with a scornful look on her face.
The other one harrumphed. “Please, stop calling that slut the ‘Luna’. I heard that the Alpha even rejected her in the presence of the nobles. It’s only a matter of time before she’s banished.”
My fists clenched as I reduced my pace, eyeing them carefully to see if I could get more details from them.
“But Phoebe is such a bitch. If I had the opportunity to be the Moon’s Chosen, I wouldn’t waste it on the Beta of all people. That’s crazy!” The one who spoke first had a disgusted look on her face.
“What do you expect from a girl who was said to have been in several relationships at once before becoming a maid here? She’s a cheap prostitute and–”
That tears it!
“Ahem!” I faked a cough, my voice bellowing through the hallway.
The duo jolted in shock, swerving their heads to me simultaneously.
I had a sarcastic smile on my face as I walked closer to them, each step a decisive move to place fear in their hearts.
And thanks to my Alpha aura, it worked like magic.
“Who are you two idiots chattering about?” I asked, tilting my head to feign curiosity.
They both anxiously glanced at each other but that only managed to piss me off further.
“Eyes. On. Me.” I emphasized each word, startling them further.
At this point, they both looked like they were going to wet their pants.
But of course, I didn’t care.

“W– We’re innocent, Alpha Kaene.” One of them, who had freckles on her face, pleaded, immediately falling to her knees. “I only overheard all that from Miss Thatcher. I didn’t… I didn’t mean–”
“Oh, so you’re admitting to spreading gossip from unreliable sources, eh?” I nodded my head, now stopping a few meters away from the two idiots.
The other one soon joined her friend in kneeling, her face rubbing the ground as she did. “We… We were foolish to believe it’s common knowledge, sir. We… We…”
At this point, I couldn’t take any more of their whining and devolved into imitating them.
“We… We… We…” I made a funny face as I imitated their shaky voices, but there was nothing ‘funny’ about any of this.
I pointed my fingers at both of them, my voice dropping into a growl that left them shocked. “Listen, carefully. Whatever you think you may have heard is between me and my mate, do you understand me?”
They both nodded their heads, quivering in trepidation and not daring to even look away from the floor.
But there was one thing that caught my attention from everything they just said.
“Where’s Elsa?” I queried.
One of them raised her head to answer me but then lowered her head as soon as she looked directly into my eyes.
Any more reactions like that and I was certain she’d faint.
Fortunately for them, it seemed the other one was able to find her voice as she stuttered while keeping her head lowered. “She’s in the garden within the compound, sir.”
Good.
Without sparing the two idiots another glance, I waltzed past them, almost causing one to stumble in her kneeling position on the floor.
Anyway, I got downstairs, ignoring the greetings of a few staff who glanced among themselves, oblivious to the rage burning inside me.
When I finally got outside, I headed straight for the garden within the compound and could already pick up the sound of an annoying voice before getting there.
“Can you imagine that bitch sprayed me with her shower hose?” It was none other than Elsa who was soaking wet and seemed to be drying herself under the sun while a maid held her phone for her.
When I spotted her, I ground my jaw, making sure to keep my distance at first.
“I’m telling you, she’s gone crazy! As if I’m the one who bewitched her to jump the Beta’s–”
Before she could finish that sentence, I snapped.
“Elsa Thatcher!” My voice resounded through the garden, causing the few maids present to scurry away for safety.
Elsa, who was sitting on a bench turned her gaze to me, a smile curling up her lips as she hung up the call.
“My Alpha. I–”
Before she could say anything else, I walked up to her and landed a slap on her face.
