Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 88
Chapter 88: _Word On The Streets
Once the slap landed on her face, Elsa stumbled backward, holding onto her face soon after.
She was still disoriented, her blonde hair becoming a mess, but she managed to gawk at me with shock in her eyes.
“Alpha Kaene. You… You slapped me?” She muttered like that was the most atrocious thing ever.
But I ignored her theatrics, pointing a finger at her. “And I promise I’ll do it again and much worse if you don’t start talking.”
She whimpered, doing everything to try to get a reaction from me.
But the only thing I felt was regret for not slapping her harder than that.
“I wasn’t even the one who leaked information about Phoebe’s affair to the rest of the pack.” She sniffled, sounding hurt. “I… I only heard about it from others today and figured someone else must have spread the news. So I felt more comfortable talking about it to other people.”
Argh, holy moon goddess, help me not to hit her again!
“You felt ‘more comfortable’ telling people even after you specifically heard me warning everyone at that party last night to keep the information private?” I brushed my hand through my hair. “Are you even listening to yourself?”
She lowered her head but I could see the annoyance in her eyes.
Oh, I’ll show her something to be annoyed at.
I stepped forward, grabbing her by the wrist and glaring into her eyes.
“Give me one reason why I shouldn’t throw you into the dungeons,” I asked with a growl.
She squirmed, struggling to get out of my hold when a voice chimed in from behind us.
But for once, it was an unexpected voice.
“Because she’s telling the truth, Alpha.”
I turned my gaze to the entrance of the garden only to spot Delta Asher walking toward me with disapproval on his face.
My mood changed instantly when I saw that, my eyebrows creasing.
He noticed the change in my countenance and immediately bowed, raising his head after a few seconds. “Forgive my intrusion, sir. But, Miss Thatcher here is telling the truth. I don’t know how but somehow, news of the Luna and Beta managed to reach the public ear before sunrise today.”
What?!
“I know it’s shocking, Alpha. I was equally as shocked and rushed straight to you when I heard the words on the streets.” He bowed his head slightly again. “Even the vampires are talking, sir. They’re finding the whole thing entertaining.”
This couldn’t be happening.
My reputation would go down the drain at this rate!
Out of frustration, I released Elsa from my grasp, causing her to stumble away while holding her wrist and sniffling in pain.
Again… I ignored her theatrics.
“What proof do you have of Elsa’s innocence then?” I queried.
Why did he seem so sure of himself and why was he even trying to help her?
“Well, sir, Miss Thatcher came to her father’s house this morning to get workers who’ll help her in renovating a suite in this mansion.” The Delta stated. “I was there when she did.”
This was problematic. I thought I had my eyes set on a culprit responsible for this mess but now I was back to square one.
“It’s all public knowledge now, Asher.” I ended up lamenting. “Someone has to pay for it.”

The fact that I was so pressed about cleaning up Phoebe’s mess was the most annoying part of all this.
SHE should be the one stressing out about all this, not me.
Meanwhile, the Delta tried to reassure me. “Whoever the real culprit is, I assure you I’ll work on fishing them out, Alpha. I’m also investigating the projector screen incident to bust whoever is responsible for that… Horrid footage.”
His reassurance was flattering but I needed more than that.
I wanted things to be back to normal!
Why did Phoebe have to do this to me? I know I rejected her but was that enough reason to cheat on me with my Beta?
There has to be some kind of foul play here. Something just didn’t feel right, I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.
“Alpha Kaene?” Elsa’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts, forcing me to turn my gaze to her. “You… You don’t look too good. Do you need somewhere to sit, or–”
I raised my hand, stopping her from going further. “I’m fine, Elsa.”
Without saying anything else, I walked away, patting the Delta on the shoulder when I got to the entrance of the garden.
“Thank you,” I muttered.
He nodded, a warm smile on his face before I continued walking.
When I got into the mansion, I bumped into my mother talking to my assistant, Lyra.
She seemed to be asking the girl some questions, her eyes squinted as she kept nodding her head.
Dear moon goddess, what now?
Just then, my mother spotted me and walked past Lyra. “Kaene, I was beginning to get worried. Why didn’t you go to work today?”
I stared at her for a bit before walking past her and heading for the dining table.
“Someone leaked information about the footage, Mother,” I muttered once I sat at the head of the table.
Some maids who were busy setting breakfast quickly added finishing touches before scurrying away.
They’d probably heard about what I did to their friends who I caught gossiping and didn’t want to fall victim.
Anyway, my mother sat down to my left, placing her hand on my shoulder. “I know that you’re hurting right now, but can you at least eat something? It’s not the end of the world simply because your mate turned out to be a slut.” She uttered casually.
I dropped the fork in my hand, fixing my gaze on her. “Really, Mom? Quit calling her a slut in my presence.”
But my mother was never exactly someone who took heed to my words.
“Oh, but she is a slut, isn’t she?” She asked with a matter-of-fact tone. “Worst of all, she’s not even showing any signs of guilt after the scandal. She’s still seeing the Beta secretly.”
My heart lurched as I dimmed my eyes at her.
