Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 89
Chapter 89: _Power Struggles
“That’s a serious accusation you just made, mother. Do you have any proof to back it?” I tried calming myself down and asked, playing around with a breakfast burrito.
My mother scrunched her face, leaning away from me. “What? You’re telling me that you’ll believe for one second that Phoebe has stopped seeing the Beta?” She asked.
I looked away from her, gritting my teeth.
It didn’t take long for my mother to snigger and lean back closer to me. “Don’t be naive, son. Every werewolf, even the ones at the very bottom, is power-hungry. It’s clear that Phoebe simply wanted to leech off from both you and–”
“Mother, please!” I couldn’t take it anymore and threw the fork in my hand on the plate, causing my mother to jerk back in surprise.
The dining room became silent as I stared blankly at the space in front of me.
As I did, I couldn’t help but remember all the times Negan and Phoebe had interacted in my presence and pretended like nothing happened.
What would be stopping them from sneaking behind my back even after getting caught and continuing with their sinful meetings?
I clenched my fists and got up, about to leave to go confront Phoebe when my mother held my hand.
“There’s nothing you can do, Kaene. What’s done has been done.” She shook her head in a bid to get me to calm down.
What the heck?
“Help me refresh my memory, Mother, but weren’t you the one insisting I banish Phoebe? Why, then, don’t you want me to do something now?” I was getting impatient and ended up yanking my hand out of her grip.
She gazed at me with a smirk on her face, as if she had everything under control.
Meanwhile, I felt like everything was crumbling before my eyes, and I didn’t know how to stop it.
“I already confronted her. She told me how she hopes to visit her parents soon.” My mother revealed casually, taking a sip from a strawberry smoothie. “Just give the trash a chance to take itself out and stay out. Then you can begin your new life with Elsa and pretend like nothing happened.”
She was planning to visit her parents and didn’t tell me.
Ugh, this just keeps sounding worse and worse!
“Hey, quit sulking!” My mother scolded me just then, placing her hand on my face and caressing it. “You’re the Alpha. You have all the power you need to get whatever you want. Just let Phoebe go and cling close to Elsa like I’ve been telling you to.”
I couldn’t help myself from rolling my eyes and folding my arms in front of my chest.
She had a point… At least, in the part of me being the Alpha. My current mood wasn’t fitting for a leader, especially after everything happening in the pack recently.
Sighing to myself, I took a bite from a burrito, looking forward to getting back on track.

.
Later that evening, I sat in my office within the mansion, looking through some files from work as well as the financial reports for the pack.
The profits from the auction was being sent to the families in the pack who suffered the most after the attacks from the Hunters.
There hadn’t been an attack in a few months, but everyone was on the lookout, and tensions among the different races in the city were getting high.
Just then, I heard a knock on my door, prompting me to raise my head.
“Who is it? Come in!” I blurted, going back to looking through the files.
The door creaked open but to my surprise, the person who walked in was Elsa’s father, Mr. Thatcher.
He was a huge man with a round figure and wore a white suit and trousers.

His fingers were adorned with several golden rings, and he even held a large brown cigarette, which he took a quick drag of before blowing the smoke into my office as if his big body wasn’t enough of an announcement of his presence.
I dimmed my eyes, not even bothering to plaster a smile on my face. “Mr. Thatcher, good evening. What brings you to my office?”
He grinned, walking to the chair in front of me and taking a seat before I even offered one to him.
I glared at him, my wolf already itching to tear him apart. I wasn’t in the best mood to receive idiots right now.
“Good evening, Alpha Kaene. I see you’re making yourself busy after the whole… Scandal.” He chuckled lightly as if anything about what he said was even remotely amusing.
I adjusted my sitting position and began drumming my fingers on the armrest of my seat, staring at the man expectantly.
He stared at me as well, the grin on his face only decreasing slightly before he began speaking again. “I’ll go straight to the point. You see, I think the recent happenings in this pack have become a bit too… Dramatic. I mean, from Ball poisonings to the alleged murder of a maid.”
I squinted my eyes and remained silent, wondering where he was going with this.
After a few more seconds, he took another drag from his cigarette, blowing the smoke like a pot-bellied dragon before he continued. “Any enemy who looks at us now from the outside will see us as a joke. A laughing stock among the top werewolf packs and even the smaller ones.”
As much as I didn’t like the way he addressed me, he was right. I knew he was right.
It was simply the harsh reality of pack politics and the power struggles between different packs.
Blue Moon pack currently reigned over the entirety of the city as the only pack, but other packs wanted this city as well. They wanted our territory.
The only reason there was an alliance between packs in the first place was because of the Hunter attacks and a need for a united front.
Anyway, I sighed, rubbing my forehead with my fingers. “Do you have any bright suggestions perhaps? Or, are you just here to chastise my rule and point out the obvious?”
Mr. Thatcher laughed, his deep voice echoing around the office.
After taking a drag from his cigarette again, he spoke. “I do have a suggestion. A solid one that even if your father were alive, he would agree with it wholeheartedly.”
At the mention of my father, I tensed up, subconsciously leaning in a bit to hear what the man had to say.
After keeping me in suspense for a while, he continued. “What this pack needs now is a union that will signify our strength both in wealth and power.” He smirked, gesturing with his hands. “Which is why I want you to appoint me as the new Beta and marry my daughter.”
