Rise of the Rejected Luna - Chapter 92
Chapter 92: _Can’t Take it Anymore
When my legs hit the ‘hard object’ and I fell, I was half expecting that Kaene would catch me.
But that didn’t happen.
I used my arms to break my fall, preventing my face from hitting the ground.
But I hurt my elbow in the process, causing me to gasp in pain.
My eyes went to the ‘object’ that I hit my leg on and I realized then that it was Elsa’s legs, which she withdrew into the table after I fell.
“Oh, dear. Are you okay?” She asked innocently, standing up from her seat.
At this point, all eyes on the dining table were trying to get a look at me, and I was deeply embarrassed.
Holy moon goddess, when will this dreadful day come to an end?
Anyway, to my surprise, Elsa helped me up, supporting me back on my feet.
However, her grip on my elbow soon tightened and she brought her mouth close to my ear briefly. “You better give up and leave with whatever dignity you have left. I have Kaene right where I want him and I’m not going to let you ruin it.” She whispered coldly.
What the heck?
That’s my mate she was talking about so carefreely!
She proceeded to let go of me, placing her hand on my shoulder briefly before going back to her seat, clinging close to Kaene yet again.
My fists clenched as I glared at her but my annoyance only increased when I noticed that Kaene didn’t spare me as much as a glance.
I was so used to his scolding that I thought he’d say something about my fall.
But he didn’t.
With my head lowered, I walked to an empty seat a few seats away from Catherine who didn’t even try hiding the disdainful way she gazed at me.
As for Mr. Viktor Thatcher, well he gawked at me creepily, taking a sip from the drink in his hand.
“Luna Phoebe, this should be the first time we’ve been in such proximity.” He blurted, breaking the awkward silence on the dining table.
I grabbed a glass of orange juice and took a large gulp, closing my eyes to calm myself before I responded to him.
“Actually, we met briefly at the Luna Ball,” I muttered, glancing at him. “I shook your hands and ushered you into the hall, remember?”
The man had a grin on his face, taking a sip from his drink before chuckling. “Why, yes. Pardon me, you aren’t exactly the type of person who leaves a memorable first impression.” He said casually.
I subconsciously tightened my grip on the glass of juice in my hands.
Yup, this was a mistake.
What was I thinking by having dinner with these people?
Meanwhile, Catherine, who’d remained silent all this while, sniggered, cutting into a scrumptious piece of chicken with a knife and fork before she spoke.
“Well, Mr. Thatcher, she may have not left a memorable first impression but her stunt which came to light should’ve left… Some impressions.” Her tone was devoid of warmth as she stared directly at me.
I struggled to keep my cool, looking away from them while occasionally glancing at Kaene and Elsa.
The latter giggled as she tried feeding Kaene, caressing his cheeks whenever he took a bite from whatever she gave him.
Were these two trying to make me jealous? Because if that was the plan it was working splendidly.

Suddenly, Mr. Thatcher spoke yet again. “Now, now, former Luna Catherine. We all have desires which we can’t help but want to meet. Let’s not point fingers at the poor girl.”
Was that supposed to make me feel better?
I shrunk back in my seat, already feeling overwhelmed.
Just then, a few maids came to the table and dropped a dessert cake at the center of the table, causing Elsa to clap her hands excitedly.
“Finally! Took you long enough.” She said sarcastically to the maids, rolling her eyes as she held a knife and took a slice for herself.
I grew increasingly uncomfortable when the maids fixed their gazes on me, some of them whispering among themselves as they walked away.
“Did you notice how the Luna is now sitting away from the Alpha?” I heard one of them say.
Another muttered. “It seems Elsa Thatcher is going to be her replacement after all. I feel bad for her.”
“Who? Phoebe? Haven’t you heard the latest? She’s a maid beater! She’s become much worse than the nobles.”
My fingers drummed on the table nervously.
I couldn’t take this anymore.
I got up from my seat, the chair scraping against the marble tiles as I did.
As expected, Elsa just couldn’t keep her big mouth closed. “Phoebe, where are you going? You barely touched your food and it’s time for dessert.”
I glanced at her, noticing the slight smirk on her lips.
The annoying little bitch!
“I think I’m full, Elsa. I’ll just make my way back to–” I was about to walk away while talking but to my greatest surprise, Kaene spoke to me for the first time today.
But his words were simple and emotionless.
“Sit.” He commanded, placing his gaze on me.
He couldn’t be serious, right?
I hesitated, gazing at him and noticing the iciness in his eyes. His fists were clenched on the table, causing me to subconsciously walk back to my seat.
However, his mother soon spoke up. “Oh, son, relax! She was just about to give us the free space to discuss without worrying that a slut will hear us. Let her be.”
My eyes stung with tears as I turned my gaze back to Kaene, who seemed hesitant to let me go.
Why? If he couldn’t even talk to me properly then why does he want me around?
When Kaene remained silent, his mother continued speaking, this time referring to me. “Leave if you want to. You’ve all but ruined my appetite this evening.”
She dramatically placed her hand on her forehead, prompting Elsa to stand up from her seat and run to her side, embracing her.
“Oh, mama Catherine. Just eat, okay? You’ll be fine.” She patted her on her forehead, glancing at me with a mocking smirk on her face.
My chest became heavy as I ran out of the dining room and climbed the stairs to my suite.
When I got there, I ran in and closed the door behind me, panting heavily as the tears that I’d been trying hard to hold back finally started pouring like a dam.
I placed my right hand on my chest, trying to catch my breath as I stretched my other hand to the wall beside me to turn on the lights.
However, I jumped back in fear when I saw the person who’d been hiding in the darkness.
“Who made you cry?”
