Rivers of the Night - Chapter 343
Chapter 343: Poison Spirit
There was a flash of red and a wolf appeared by Theron’s side. With a step, Theron was already on its back, shooting off into the distance.
He knew that since the Alpha was here, it also meant that Elder Black wasn’t very far away from breaking free. This was the real reason the Alpha hadn’t been by his side all the while—he was Theron’s timer of sorts.
Considering that Theron had also been stuck in a wave of enemies, it was probably safe to say that the Alpha had been around for maybe longer than he knew, which meant that the Elder would break free any moment now…
It was unlikely that he would have to worry about the Ancestor of the Sangun. Something told Theron that if there were three such powerhouses in the old assassin and the other two, Empires had their own old monsters hidden away somewhere.
But considering they hadn’t appeared while Theron was there, it probably meant that they wouldn’t.
Even so… none of it mattered.
Theron was only doing this for one reason.
Kill.
By now, the assassins had more than likely scattered. He hadn’t had them fight to the death. There was only so far he could push them in the first place.
There were too many holes in his story, and the Gold Assassins especially would likely have their own methods. Now that he thought about it, Theron had no real assurance that the Soul Brand was even as effective against Gold Mancers—especially high-tier ones—to begin with.
It didn’t matter, though. They had served their purpose.
First, he was able to trap Elder Black for the time being.
Second, he was able to distract the armies for long enough to have his talk with Emperor Sangun and also keep them off his back long enough to deal with Wren.
And now, they were whittled down enough, and filled with enough fear, that they would be unlikely to interfere with the final thing he had to do here.
In a flash of blazing red, Theron and the Alpha shot out of the city, the wilderness building up around them.
They came to a sudden stop, but the two that Theron had expected to see weren’t the two that stood before him right now.
On the left was a familiar Black Clan member, a young woman that had once accused Theron of using their Clan’s Echo…
Saularon Black. Marcel’s fiancée.
On the right, there was another familiar woman, one that Theron had much more experience with…
Thessa Firewing.
Why the two would be here, Theron truly didn’t know. At least he didn’t know initially… until he looked down at their hands.
On the surface, there didn’t seem to be anything wrong. They looked perfectly natural, except for the fact they were a bit more vascular than one would expect from the slender hands of two maidens.
The problem wasn’t obvious, and there was nothing stiff or overwhelmed about their expressions either. They well and truly looked like they had come here of their own volition in order to stop Theron from continuing forward and continuing to cause his rain of chaos.
But Theron knew better.
Poison. Control. A Poison Spirit Type? Interesting.
This was a Mancy Path Theron wouldn’t even know about if not for his stint in the Imperial Library of the Nightingale Empire. Sometimes, he still had dreams about the library in the Luminescent Moon Sect’s Secret Realm, and he was sure that it had much more to give him, but unfortunately, he hadn’t had the time he needed to benefit from it.
Theron understood what he was seeing immediately. After his recent breakthrough, he felt like his mind had been elevated once again. It was just that… he was so tired he was barely seeing a fraction of that benefit right now.
He was barely at 20% capacity, and yet it was still greater than his former 100%.
For some reason, every time these hot and cold clashing personalities within him went at it, his soul would benefit, and his comprehension abilities would progress as a result.
He still didn’t understand why that was, but stopping it would require taking off one of the only two family heirlooms he had… and he simply had no intention of doing that.

There was a flash in Theron’s eyes and his Third Eye became more concentrated. He was conserving it because his mental state was already depleted, but clearly, he couldn’t allow things to just continue like this.
Instead, he found it.
Exsaa.
A woman with foggy black makeup smeared around her eyes like the heavy bags of a banshee stood high in a tree, her robes fluttering at a distance of over 700 meters away.
She held her hands up like a puppeteer, her gaze flashing as though she was looking through the eyes of Saularon and Thessa. It was clear that there was nothing she wanted to do more than rip Theron to shreds.
But even as Theron swept his Third Eye over her, she didn’t sense it.
Theron didn’t look her way despite finding her. That was one of his targets, but he knew that there was another somewhere. There had been four cloaked figures; he had killed two of them, so there should be two more—unless there were even more hidden away.
“I knew all along that you were using the Black Limbo Tortoise. There is simply no way that a Water Mancer could become so powerful without methods,” Saularon said coldly. “Do you really want to leave here and be hunted down by two of the most powerful Clans on the continent? To what end?
“Where will you go? Do you think the Nightingales will take you in? Do you think there’s a single power in existence that would dare to offend the Seijin Clan? Let alone the Black Clan on top of that?
“Who do you think you are? If I were you, I would obediently hand over my head.”
Theron didn’t say a word, his Third Eye still scanning. But… he couldn’t find Vellan no matter how hard he tried.
How could a Silver Mancer hide from his Third Eye when he put even the most elite Gold Mancers to shame?
