Runemaster in the Last Days - Chapter 112
Chapter 112: Commotions
When Amelia reached the research institute, she immediately found Ruby who was staying outside.
“Ruby, you’re not working?”
“It’s my turn to take a break,” Ruby replied with a smile. “Do you want to go inside?”
If it was anyone else, Ruby would never ask this question. But the people from the Jones Family were different because this base basically belonged to them. Even if Amelia went into the research institute, no one would dare to say anything to her.
Amelia waved her hand. “You know I won’t understand anything even if I go inside. Let’s go and see Sophia. I heard that she’ll come here today.”
“Did you manage to contact her?” Ruby asked again.
The communication device has been more or less restored but only to a certain degree. For example, they still found it difficult to contact people from other cities and there were many times when the connection was so bad that they had to wait for a long time.
After all, the connection provider would not prioritize ordinary people but only some people who were important.
“Yes.” Amelia nodded. “She’s with the military along with a few other young masters and young misses. They will come here to reunite with their family.”
“I see.” Ruby nodded.
She knew that the people who lived in this area used to be influential people and the military naturally prioritize saving their family members. Even if the world had changed, there were still some things that had not changed.
One of them was the fact that the Jones Family still controlled a large number of resources and these people had to work for them if they wanted a part of it.
As for rebelling against the Jones Family?
They would be killed directly.
It was also through this incident that the existence of warrior and mages were basically exposed to the public for the first time. And knowing that these people were much stronger than ordinary humans…
No one dared to offend them.
Of course, this matter was not known to everyone for the time being and only a small part of people knew about it. But so far, it was enough. The others knew that there were magic beasts outside and thought that only the military could protect them.
So they were working obediently.
“I miss the others,” Amelia murmured.
Their chat group, that usually filled with various chats were completely empty in the past week. It hasn’t been that long ever since they came to the base, but Amelia already felt that their current life was a bit annoying.
She missed the time when they were still in the academy and able to do many things without the need to worry too much. But now, they had to worry about these magic beasts and whether they could stay alive or not.
It was somewhat frustrating.
“Don’t worry, I believe they’re fine,” Ruby said but even she herself couldn’t really believe her words.
The main reason why she could survive was because she stayed with Amelia and Riya. One was a swordswoman while the other had some mysterious ability. While Ruby didn’t probe deeper, she knew that these two people were far more powerful than ordinary people.
Without either one of them, there was no way Ruby could survive so far.
Sophia was with her family members and knowing her family’s background, Ruby felt that Sophia will be fine. Victoria was also with her family members and considering the tense relationship that Victoria had with her family members, Ruby was a bit worried. The last one, Claire, should be fine since from what Ruby knew, Claire knew some martial arts.
She forgot what, though.
Hopefully, they all could reunite together in the future.
“Let’s go to the front,” Amelia said and pointed to the gate.
Over the past week, the gate was under construction along with the wall and it was finished. Even Amelia was amazed by how fast the building could be made but after knowing that some of these builders were mages that her brother had trained, Amelia had the look of ‘as expected.’

It seemed that Samuel had already anticipated this in the past and thus, he trained some people to become magic warrior under the Jones Family.
Amelia could only sigh at how foresighted her brother is.
He could even think about this.
But it might also be because he knew that there were people like Peter and there was no point for him to keep hiding forever. Moreover, the appearance of that mist had signaled that something will change.
And this something turned out to be a catastrophe for the entire world.
It was truly tragic.
“They’re there.” Amelia’s eyes lit up when she saw the group of people coming from outside. There were several military cars with each of them bringing people from different families.
As they walked down, Amelia’s expression darkened.
Because there were also Valeria’s family among them.
“Ah… is it because they’re from the Jones Family?” Ruby also recognized them and asked awkwardly.
“I don’t know.” Amelia gritted her teeth and looked around. However, there were only Valeria’s mother and Valeria here. Her father and Victoria were not there and this made Amelia felt a foreboding feeling.
From the other car, the Carson Family also came out, which included Sophia. Sophia’s expression was cold when she looked in the direction of Valeria, but it brightened instantly when she saw Amelia and Ruby.
“Mel! Ruby! I’m glad you two are fine here,” Sophia said happily and hugged her two friends.
“Of course.” Amelia laughed. “I’m glad you’re alright too. Did anything happen when you’re outside?”
“Just some annoying matters, but I can handle it.” Sophia waved her hand and then her eyes narrowed. “Victoria and her father are in different villa when the earthquake happened. The military is going there to pick her up.”
Hearing this, both Amelia and Ruby heaved a sigh of relief.
As long as there were still no confirmation of Victoria’s death, it was good.
“Hey, now that I’m here, I want the best place!”
