Chapter 423: No Rest For The Wicked
Seven Sins System Chapter 423. No Rest For The Wicked

Despite the thoughts swirling in my mind, sleep took me swiftly.

The bed was a nice change from the cold, hard floors I had been sleeping on for the past few days. Not to mention, now, I had no burden anymore. The light realm no longer had a reason to accuse me or the demons.

But then, the blaring sound of my phone shattered the silence, dragging me abruptly from my sleep.

I grunted in annoyance, not bothering to open my eyes. My hand reached out blindly, fumbling across the table next to my bed until it closed around the device. Only one person ever called my phone, so I knew I had to pick it up, even though I was still groggy and half-asleep.

Bringing the phone to my ear, I mumbled, “Yes, Dad?” My voice was thick with sleep, and I barely managed to force the words out.

“Have you really succeeded in completing the mission?” My dad’s voice crackled through the phone, brimming with excitement.

“Yeah, I… that’s all,” I replied, my words slurring together as sleep tugged at the edges of my consciousness.

“Oh, wonderful! I knew you could do it. You’ve managed to fix everything in just a few months!” My dad’s voice was filled with rare praise.

I wanted to be happy too, to celebrate this victory with him, but the pull of sleep was too strong.

My mind was foggy, my body heavy with exhaustion. All I wanted was to sleep.

“Huh huh,” I mumbled, trying to sound engaged. “Mm.”

He kept talking.

“You’ve truly outdone yourself this time. The light realm can’t accuse us of anything now. You’ve made us proud, my son.”

“Uh huh,” I repeated, barely processing his words.

I could picture him on the other end of the line, probably pacing back and forth, full of energy and pride. But here I was, struggling to keep my eyes open.

“And those dark crystals… You’ve gathered quite a lot, haven’t you? Your power must have increased significantly.”

“Mm,” I agreed, my responses becoming more automatic. I was on the verge of falling back asleep.

“And what about Puriel? How did she handle everything?”

The mention of Puriel jolted me slightly.

“She… she did her part. Healing the victims, you know,” I muttered, trying to sound more coherent.

“Ah, I see. Despite your differences, I’m surprised that you’ve managed to work together remarkably well.”

“Yeah, we did,” I admitted, my thoughts briefly drifting to Puriel’s sad face. It was strange, how much that image had stayed with me. Even now, it nagged at the back of my mind.

Just as I was about to drift back to sleep, I heard my father’s voice again, more insistent this time. “You should come back immediately.”

His words snapped me fully awake.

I opened my eyes, blinking away the remnants of sleep. I didn’t answer right away, my mind racing to find a suitable response.

“About that… I need time before I come back. I have several women here, and I want to take them all to my palace. At least I need a while to sort out some things here before I can take them.”

There was a pause, and I could almost hear the confusion in his silence.

“What’s with the annoying procedure? Just bring them. They are demons, after all, and they shouldn’t be in the mortal realm. Just make it seem like they had an accident or something with you. That way, you can disappear together.”

I scratched my head.

“It’s not that easy, Dad. And I still want to meet someone else in the mortal realm.”

His confusion deepened, evident in his tone.

“Why do you sound like you don’t wanna go home?”

“I’m not,” I lied, trying to sound more confident. “I just have a few things to deal with here. Mortal stuff. Who knows, maybe I might need to come to this realm again?” I reasoned.

The real reason, of course, was that I needed more time to collect Puriel’s tears for the potion. But that was a truth I couldn’t share with him.

Dad sighed.

“Okay, but don’t take too long. There’s a lot of work waiting for you,” he reminded me.

I grunted. “Just say that you are too lazy to handle the work.”

He cleared his throat.

“Oh, my meeting is almost starting. Bye,” he said, his tone final as he ended the call abruptly.

I let out a frustrated sigh, staring at the phone in my hand.

I glanced at the phone with half-open eyes.

“Ugh… typical,” I grumbled, my voice thick with frustration.

I tossed the phone onto the bedside table, letting it land with a soft thud.

The faint light of the rising sun filtered through the curtains, casting a gentle glow across the room. I squinted at the clock on the wall. 06:07 AM.

“It’s time to get up already?” I groaned.

I threw an arm over my face, trying to block out the light and the growing list of responsibilities waiting for me. Sleep had been a fleeting luxury.

“Great, just great,” I muttered to myself. “No rest for the wicked, right?” I whined. A long exhale out of my mouth.
