Seven Sins System - Chapter 425
Chapter 425: Speak of Myself
Seven Sins System Chapter 425. Speak of Myself
My thoughts were suddenly scattered as I felt a tap on my shoulder and a hand grip my other one.
“Morning, doc!” Ion greeted, appearing at my side with a broad smile. He matched my pace effortlessly.
“Glad to see you getting better, doc,” Darren said, jogging on my other side. He sounded genuinely relieved, which was touching in a way I hadn’t expected.
Barry, who jogged alongside Darren, gave me a grin that bordered on a cringe.
“Why do you look like a grumpy old man? Are you jogging while trying to scare away the squirrels around here?”
I shook my head from side to side, exasperated by his usual antics. “Speak of myself (the devil),” I muttered under my breath in a nonchalant tone. It was ironic how I had just been thinking about them, and here they were, right in front of me.
“Huh?” Ion said, looking confused. He clearly hadn’t caught what I said.
“Nothing,” I replied briefly, not in the mood to repeat myself or explain.
“So, doc, what’s the plan for today?” Darren asked, his tone casual but curious.
“Plan?” I repeated, trying to think past the fog of fatigue. “I haven’t really decided yet. Maybe some training sessions. We’ll see.”
Ion nodded, seemingly satisfied with that.
“Sounds good. We’re ready for whatever you throw at us.”
Barry, on the other hand, was less focused.
“Hey, doc, have you ever thought about what you’d be doing if you weren’t here? Like, if you had a normal life?”
I shot him a look.
“Normal life? That’s not really something I’ve considered. My life has always been… complicated,” I admitted with a trace of melancholic tone.
The three of them exchanged glances at my melancholic tone.
Without warning, they moved in front of me, blocking my path like bullies cornering their victim.
I stopped in my tracks and gave them a flat stare, my eyes cold and commanding. The message was clear “move”.
But they ignored me.
“Does this have anything to do with Miss Julia?” Darren asked, his voice tinged with concern. “Has your relationship gotten worse? I noticed she hasn’t gone to the infirmary to see you these past few days.”
I furrowed my brows, trying to keep my expression neutral.
“No,” I replied curtly. I couldn’t tell them that the reason Julia hadn’t visited the infirmary was because it was my double who had been there, not me.
Barry, always ready to leap to the most dramatic conclusions, chimed in.
“Does this have anything to do with Miss Aria? Did she reject your love?”
I huffed, exasperated. “No, Barry. Where did that assumption come from?”
Barry shrugged, his face a mixture of confusion and genuine concern. “You’ve just been acting weird, that’s all.”
Ion added his own thoughts.
“Then what happened? There’s no way nothing’s wrong. You seem different lately. You’ve been returning to your dorm early and rejecting all our invitations. Not to mention, you even acted more formally than usual in our training sessions. You were not as strict as you usually are.” His voice had a hint of complaint, and it made sense—they were experiencing the difference between me and my double.

I sighed. “Look,” I began, trying to sound as patient as possible, “I’ve had a lot on my mind recently. It’s not about Julia or Aria. It’s… something else.”
“Something else?” Darren pressed, his eyes narrowing slightly. “What’s more important than your health or your relationships?”
“Dunno. Not you guys for sure,” I replied irritably, my patience wearing thin.
Barry’s brow furrowed in confusion. “That doesn’t explain what’s been happening to you recently and why you’ve been acting weird.”
I frowned. “So you guys prefer it when I’m tough, huh? Got it. Next time, I’ll be tougher with your training.”
At my words, they shuddered, a look of panic flashing across their faces.
Barry was quick to backpedal. “That’s not what we meant!”
Darren nodded in agreement. “We mean, you should tell us something if you have a problem. Maybe we can help you.”
A smirk crept onto my face. ‘What makes these mortals think they can handle my problems?’ I thought.
They were trying to be nice, I got that, but it sounded arrogant to me. They had no idea what they were offering to step into.
“What makes you think that you can help solve my problem?” I asked, my tone edged with sarcasm.
Ion immediately complained, his voice rising slightly. “Hey, we might be dumb, but we’re sure we can be useful for you somehow.”
I had to admit that Ion’s statement struck me as another arrogant assumption, but somehow it amused me rather than annoyed me.
I found myself laughing at his words, a deep, genuine chuckle that echoed. The image of these mortals trying to help a devil like me was simply absurd. What could they possibly do? Their well-intentioned efforts seemed almost comical, like a group of toddlers attempting to fix a broken machine with toy tools.
But as I laughed, I started to see them in a different light. They reminded me of a bunch of babies, earnest and eager, trying to do whatever they could to assist an adult. Their efforts were clearly futile, and yet, there was something endearing about their determination. It was a kind of naivety that I hadn’t encountered in a long time.
The trio exchanged confused glances, their eyes darting between each other as they tried to make sense of my sudden laughter.
Ion’s brow furrowed deeply, his lips pursed in bewilderment.
Darren’s head tilted slightly to the side, his expression a mix of curiosity and uncertainty.
Barry’s mouth was slightly open, his eyes wide with puzzlement.
